I am on the road at least once a month, and this is the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel. When I came to the front desk, there was a large group checking in. One of the clerks offered to check me in and the other person at the front desk who, as it turns out was the manager, told this desk clerk, "Don't worry about HIM right now we have this group to check-in." Maybe a greeting such as, "Sir, please be patient for a minute. We are checking in a group" would have made me feel like more of a welcome guest. When the manager finally got around to addressing me, she said without explanation, "I'm going to move you across the street to the Hampton Inn." I figured that was fine, since I have gold status with Hilton. She got in her car and led me across the street to the Springhill Suites. When I asked about the Hampton, she said, don't worry, this is a newer hotel. Don't worry, it's the same price." Except, it was not. They did not even show a reservation for me, and the desk clerk at the Springhill Suites got ready to charge me $270 for 1 night. When I explained that my whole visit was supposed to be under $500 for 3 nights, he got on the phone with the Holiday Inn Express. 5 minutes later, I said the heck with it and walked out. It turns out the Hampton Inn in Camden was full, so I wound up having to get a room in Clemson. Two hours later, the manager from Holiday Inn called me to say, if I still needed a room, she had one. Thanks, but no thanks. I spent 35 years working in customer service for an airline, and I knew what was expected of me when I was serving the public. The manager of the Holiday Inn Express in Camden could stand to have a little refresher course on how to treat their customers and make them want to return.

While I had hoped for a comfortable and relaxing experience, my stay was significantly marred by the complete lack of hot water. From the moment I attempted to take a shower, I was met with nothing but cold water. This was not a temporary inconvenience; it persisted throughout my entire stay. Being unable to shower with hot water is simply unacceptable in any hotel, regardless of its price point. It made basic hygiene uncomfortable and frankly, unpleasant. Beyond the fundamental issue of no hot water, the way this problem was handled was equally frustrating. Upon check-out the manager on duty tried unsuccessfully to offer us a few points to resolve the situation and when we would not accept the points he became rude and unprofessional. I left a total four messages for the new Gerneral Manager Miranda Piper. Miranda avoided my calls and made no attempt to return any of my four messages. After discussing this issue with the front desk I was told they were aware of the issue prior to me booking my reservation however no one informed me that there was no hot water upon check-in. * "I contacted the front desk on 05/18 and was told they were aware of the issue. No follow-up or resolution was offered." * "When I inquired about the lack of hot water, the staff seemed indifferent and offered no explanation or timeframe for when it might be restored." * "I was told it was a 'building-wide issue' but no further information or alternative arrangements were provided." The lack of hot water significantly impacted my stay by making it difficult to relax, causing me to feel unclean, disrupting my morning routine. It is a basic amenity that I, and I believe any guest, should be able to rely on. I would strongly advise potential guests to consider this serious issue before booking a stay at Holiday Inn Express Richburg. A comfortable stay necessitates basic amenities, and the complete absence of hot water renders this hotel far below acceptable standards. The owners were actually present to watch the Clemson vs Auburn game and brought over the meal for the guests to indulge. It was during the week days so everyone there was on business and thankful for the meal because it was a balmy 30-something degrees outside. The rooms are simple yet beautiful. Each room (I've only stayed in two of them) has cable TV, a small desk, bed, end table, sitting chair, private bath, and a closet. The kitchen is stocked to the gills and accessible anytime. The common areas are kept neat and tidy and there's a countertop Keurig for all of your coffee and tea needs. Fresh fruit and less healthful snacks are also supplied in the kitchen. I've stayed several times on business and will likely return one year for the Sandblast Rally race which is a popular local attractions for off-road racing enthusiasts.
