I had the best experience at the omsi location! No lines or busy festival crowds! The selection was superb as well!

Whether it's tandem bikes, surrey, choppers or regular bikes, good options that work well for shorter people like me. This was such a fun way to explore Portland and the waterfront. Highly recommend if you want to see the city on two wheels.

Situated right by the water, the rental center consists of a little building surrounded by a whole lot of ride options - tandem bikes, surrey's for a squad of folks, choppers, tandem bikes for dates, all sorts of weird rides. There was a free "fix-it" zone for personal bike repairs and a snack bar with basic snacks. We were debating and trying to figure out pricing compared to the app, and ended up going with Kerr Bikes because it seemed easier than fussing about it. We paid $25 for a half-day rentals that got us four hours of bike time. They were closing at 7 and let us know we would need to bring the bikes back by then. After walking the bikes out to us, we were free to roam and explore. They gave us bike locks. Quality bikes. It was nice to be able to lock the bike up at any bike rack without the hassle of touching an app, rebooking bikes, counting minutes, or dealing with any of the other things. It was a lovely ride exploring the area. You have to return them to the center before they close, so it does take some management of where you will go. The proceeds support services for humans with intellectual and developmental disabilities and mental health challenges - so all in all even if for a short ride you end up paying a bit more, it goes to a worthwhile place. If you have a family, are looking for combo rides, and are ready to put your phone away to simply enjoy a day on wheels - all while supporting an organization that cares about Portland people - then this is the spot to go. Lovely way to spend an afternoon by the water!

Download their app and you can search for the closest bike hub and even reserve one. That's the easy part! Getting the bike out of the locked rack is often challenging until you get the knack. The bikes are heavy but they have E-assist for people like me who need it. There's a basket up front for convenience if you use the bike to run errands. You can pick up and drop the bike off at any hub. For those needing sporadic access around Portland and don't want to take their car or don't own one, it's definitely a good an affordable option. But I'm definitely a car person and prefer my tiny Smart car which is inexpensive to operate and can find parking pretty much anywhere. For me, this is an option for those times I want to ride a bike and go places my car can't take me, and since I don't own one, Biketown makes it easy.

My first gripe- there are rarely bikes at the park spots I frequent. Whatever that's fine it's usually no more than a 15 walk to the next one. The bikes themselves are usually pretty disgusting - Sticky handlebars and seats, puked on etc. I hate that you have to pay 1$ every time you lock outside of a designated parking area. You should get that 1$ back if you take a bike from undesignated area. Lime lets you park anywhere- Always easy to find one. They are usually close to being dead with 1 or 2 miles left. And they are ugly as hell. The orange, clunky, heavy bike is just embarrassing to ride. I paid for the membership and it still feels pretty expensive especially for what you're getting but it is nice to have an alternative way to get to work and half the time. I'm confident more people would ride if all these things were fixed.
