​We loved our Essential Portland bike tour with Spencer last Friday!…read more ​It was our first visit to Portland and we love touring a new city by bike to get the lay of the land at the start of our trip--and this company did a great job. ​The bikes were well-maintained, well-fitted to us, and our guide Spencer did a fantastic job communicating the route, what to expect, and keeping us all safe during the tour. ​He took us through nice neighborhoods and city landmarks while frequently stopping to teach us a lot about Portland's history, present-day city life, restaurants, shopping, and buildings of interest. ​My local friends (Aaron and Rashmi) also paid to join our tour, and coincidentally we all stopped at one of Spencer's guide spots along the river at the Portland Fire and Rescue building that Aaron, my architect-friend on our tour, designed. When we told him, Spencer invited him to give us a quick speech on the building's design. My first gripe- there are rarely bikes at the park spots I frequent. Whatever that's fine it's usually no more than a 15 walk to the next one. The bikes themselves are usually pretty disgusting - Sticky handlebars and seats, puked on etc. I hate that you have to pay 1$ every time you lock outside of a designated parking area. You should get that 1$ back if you take a bike from undesignated area. Lime lets you park anywhere- Always easy to find one. They are usually close to being dead with 1 or 2 miles left. And they are ugly as hell. The orange, clunky, heavy bike is just embarrassing to ride. I paid for the membership and it still feels pretty expensive especially for what you're getting but it is nice to have an alternative way to get to work and half the time. I'm confident more people would ride if all these things were fixed.

Download their app and you can search for the closest bike hub and even reserve one. That's the easy part! Getting the bike out of the locked rack is often challenging until you get the knack. The bikes are heavy but they have E-assist for people like me who need it. There's a basket up front for convenience if you use the bike to run errands. You can pick up and drop the bike off at any hub. For those needing sporadic access around Portland and don't want to take their car or don't own one, it's definitely a good an affordable option. But I'm definitely a car person and prefer my tiny Smart car which is inexpensive to operate and can find parking pretty much anywhere. For me, this is an option for those times I want to ride a bike and go places my car can't take me, and since I don't own one, Biketown makes it easy.

(Even the helmet and lock were remarkably nice.) So much fun!! I buzzed all around town, up and down the riverfront trail, and across Portland's many bridges. I liked the bike so much I went back and rented it the next week, taking it out on the Leif Erikson trail through Forest Park. Service was exceptionally friendly both times. My third time in the shop was a weekend, and the guys working that day were also friendly but a bit disorganized. It took a while to get the bike, and it was... well, shoot, it was just a regular rental bike. The lock was really cool though, and it was still worth it for the convenience of being able to get around town on two wheels. BikeHub is tops on my list for the next time I'm in Portland!

Ah-mazing customer service…read more Aaron and Kevin were absolute angels when it came to assisting me with my shiny new Brompton & it's rack needs. Even close to closing and a storm on it's way they wanted to make sure that I was able to leave the shop with my bike ready to go. I've even had instances where my motor was having issues on the roadside, and called in and they were able to help me troubleshoot it. The customer service I've received every time I've come in has been superb and they are so extremely honest about the products they carry in store. They only offer the best. One of the gals, I can't quite remember her name at this moment, but she helped me buy my Brompton originally she gifted me these amazing wheels I've been pumped to try that give you bidirectional motion. She said she didn't use them anymore and was happy to gift them when they were on display. My experience here has always been a 10/10!
