My Kenz Quesadilla with Kofta was disappointing especially at the price charged. Service is slow. One server on the floor on a Saturday afternoon. Fifteen minutes after I sat down the server finally came over to my table. I asked for a glass of water. Water is not free. They charge 2.50 for a bottle they bought at H-E-B (24 bottles @ $3.99). 30 minutes later I received my order. Seriously, how long does it take to make a quesadilla? In the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, I needed to grab some dinner before flying out of town the next morning. I struggled the entire night to find a place given the lack of electricity and other challenges the city is dealing with. I stumbled upon Kenz. It had power and food, so I decided to sit down and eat! Service was fast and our waitress gave great recommendations. One thing of note: All drinks are bottled and water is not free. The potato sambusa paired with the homemade tzatziki made for a wonderful appetizer. I did wish the potato had a little more flavor, but tzatziki added that, so it is still a winner in my book. For the entree, I ordered the shawarma wrap (mix of beef and chicken) and all I can say is WOW. The flavor was 10/10. It's simple, it's filling and it's great flavor- I can't ask for more. I was excited to try this place based on the reviews. Parking was easy and I was immediately greeted upon entry. The dining area was a bit on the smaller side and seemed a bit cluttered, but it was clean. I didn't get the tea, and opted for water. As other reviewers have noted, if you ask for water, they bring bottles of water. I wasn't sure what to order, so I decided to try the tasting menu. I had the hummus as an appetizer and i was obsessed, i couldn't stop eating it and it was basically finished by the time the main course arrived. Yum! Can't believe Kenz has been here for 4 years and I just found out about them! We ordered the kenz salad with chicken as well as the chicken shawarma wrap, both very delicious. The chicken was juicy and well seasoned, and both my husband and I noted that the seasoning is very different from other shawarma chickens we've had around town. We loved it! After finishing our wrap I honestly thought we needed another one, but unfortunately we had driven away by then. It really was so tasty! We had ordered the food online, but when we arrived their system was down so the order was not received on their end. However, they quickly put in the order and the owner came in and treated us to some Egyptian mint tea, and gave our toddler a individual sized box of horizon milk. Egyptian mint tea was so fragrant and refreshing, with just a touch of mint that wasn't overpowering (I'm not a fan of mint)! My husband and I loved it! I feel like it would be the perfect compliment to a greasy meal. The horizon milk kept my toddler occupied and happy while we waited for our food. I definitely want to come back for another chicken shawarma wrap, as well as to try the koshary, the national dish of Egypt. We had koshary at another Egyptian restaurant in katy and loved it, but this is the first place in Houston I've found that serves this dish. They also offer a taste of Egypt meal, which offers a full service buffet to sample everything on the menu. The owner told us that we need to come "very hungry" as they will be disappointed if we don't eat our share. So for the big eaters out there, this one is definitely for you! Highly recommend! After Beryl passed through, it was quite difficult finding somewhere to eat, but my friend and I were extremely grateful for Kenz. For starters, we split some potato sambusas which was fresh, cripsy and paired well with the tzatziki sauce. My main order was a shrimp sharma. Our server recommended to pair it with the spicy garlic sauce, and my gosh- it was divine! I left feeling satisfied and extremely pleased. Kenz js in the Galleria area, but the parking lot is huge so no issues with parking there. Inside is beautifully decorated with hints of Egypt, and local music in the background. Service was great, our server was kind and patient, happily answering all our questions and providing excellent recommendations. Side note: I went back two days later for the rice and shrimp plate. Traveling to Houston for work and found this Egyptian/Mediterranean gem! Abdalla, the owner is so passionate and sweet. Even though I only tried the Mediterranean cuisine, I'll have to come back for the specialty Egyptian dishes! Abdalla helped me pick a few items to try as I wasn't hungry but I wanted a little bit of everything! I went for the Vegetarian appetizer platter so I could try the Samosas, Babaganoush, Hummus, Dolmas, and Falafel. All delish!! I also wanted Kofta so I got a small side on top of salad. Very cute with Turkish light hanging from the ceilings. I have the chicken rice platter which had good flavors but the chicken was a little dry. The garlic mayonnaise sauce that I had with it was very good. My husband had the lamb which was pretty good but have had better it wasn't cooked on the spot the restaurant could use a major decluttering to remove extension cord boxes stacked on top of the Coke machine, junk on the counters, etc. the children's high chairs, need a major cleaning. I was afraid to go to the bathroom in this restaurant, because the hallway leading to it had no lights. If they could freshen the place up, it could be a really fun restaurant. It was pretty tasty although I probably would skip it next time since it has macaroni. The food was delicious, the portions were quite large so we could have shared, of course we did not. The thing that weirded me out was all of the extra charges. When I asked for waters, we were given bottled water, which is fine, but the charge was $2.50 each. That is a lot for a basic ozarka bottle. My water had a weird taste to it as well, like it was left in the heat for too long along the line. Then the baba ganoush did not come with pita or any sort of accompaniment. It was an extra charge. It looks like if we gotten hummus, it would have been the same thing. I dont think you just eat it with a spoon? It would be easier to add the charge to the dish imo. What an awesome little restaurant! This Egyptian restaurant is beautiful inside, and has really friendly service. We came by for dinner on a Sunday night. My husband and I shared a kofta (beef) shawarma and Koshari, which I learned is the National dish of Egypt. The shawarma was delicious, but the koshari was amazing!! It's a uniquely blended and seasoned combination of rice, lentils, chickpeas, pasta, and fried onions, drizzled with a sweet and tangy tomato sauce, and it comes with a spicy sauce and a garlic sauce on the side. About our meal... Koshari...this is pure Egyptian comfort food. It has two forms of pasta, lentils, whatever sort of ground protein you want in there to include falafel, chicken, kofta, etc. Etc. It has crispy onions, a tomato-based sauce and two accompanying sauces. You can either drizzle on in small amounts or like we did. We dumped both full sauces all over which is a buttery garlic sauce as well as a spicy chili like sauce that made the entire dish a little tingly. But oh my god, was it good. The meat was cooked absolutely perfectly and we ate this entire dish between my wife and I, along with an appetizer of baba ganoush. I also got one of their delicious mango smoothies and some refreshing mint iced tea. This is the way you should eat. The Mediterranean diet is amongst one of the most healthiest on the planet. Service was top notch as we sat outside on a warm day. The decor inside is really nice as well and they even have an Egyptian sampler plate that has all things Egyptian on it. You should eat here you don't care for food and enjoy eating low-quality, subpar food. This place isn't sure if it's a restaurant or a fast food place. They give plastic spoons and forks and add extra charges without informing. Chicken kabobs looks like they're from some frozen packet. It's a disgrace to even call them kabobs. Salad that comes in the rice platter is a joke. Portions are another joke. If you like eating something but still want to feel hungry then you should eat here. In other situations, you'd be better off eating at other places. And if other places are closed, then do yourself a favor and drive to McDonald's or whataburger to get better food than Kenz. read more

I have been going to Kenz for at least five years now and remain a fan. I discovered it by accident because I was visiting the fabulous chocolatier next door. Discovering Kenz proved to be a fruitful accident! The food is made fresh and is flavorful. I usually order a salad and fries because of food allergies, but I always enjoy the meal because it is so flavorful. They use fresh herbs, are generous with the olive oil and garlic and are attentive to presentation. My dining companions have enjoyed many of the other dishes with positive feedback each time. Sometimes the meats can be served with a little more oil than is ideal but that can be remedied. I like that the food is made from scratch. However, that may mean that it will not be super fast. They do offer takeaway ordering now, so that should be helpful for professionals looking to pick up lunch. I have always come for lunch and the ambiance is relaxed with lovely international music playing. The decor is not that cohesive, so don't bring someone who might be sensitive about aesthetics and misjudge the restaurant quality as a result. The decor is an eclectic mix of faux flowers and random murals painted on the wall. The furniture is also a bit random but comfy. The feel is something like what you would expect if you were visiting the home of a creative uncle who liked to throw parties and always had a twinkle in his eye and a treat in his hand for guests. I cannot comment on the ambiance for dinner based on personal experience, but I would imagine the same hospitality from lunch time would be found during dinner. The staff and owner are always welcoming and strike up friendly chats if the place is not too busy. They make one feel cared for without being intrusive during the meal. During the dinner last Saturday at a Lebanese restaurant, Richi told us about a dish he loves in Egypt, the best served in a 5-story restaurant specialized this. My curiosity is piqued so I have to seek out this dish to get an idea why it is loved so much. If I remember correctly, it's a dish that was invented by an Italian Chef cooking for the King of Egypt. It's a pasta and rice dish that has a tomato-based sauce, with various types of ingredients that eventually become a national dish of Egypt. After some quick search, I found a place in Houston that serves it. Of course, I don't expect it to be anything close to the one in Egypt, but I truly have no idea what it should be. The version that I got has two types of pasta, Elbow is the usual from what our Egyptian friend Norma told us, and this one has Spaghetti too. It has Yellow Rice, Garbanzo Beans, and Fried Onions, tossed lightly in a Tomato Sauce. The cook suggests Gyros as protein, which I gladly obliged, and it didn't disappoint. It also comes with a vinegary hot sauce that tastes like Cholula, but it's actually house-made. The skillet comes out piping hot, it stays hot almost until I finished more than half. I love the aroma and the taste of Fried Onions, all the different ingredients come together very well. I find it very comforting and hearty, it's like a warm embrace from an Egyptian family.
