This striking pedestrian bridge over the South Platte River was designed by SAR+ Architects and will act as the southern gateway to the Gates District at Broadway Station--the pending redevelopment of the old Gates Rubber factory.
The bridge runs from the South Platte River Trail, over the South Platte River, and ends at the west side of South Santa Fe Drive. A traffic signal will allow pedestrians to cross Santa Fe Drive. Another bridge provides access over the railroad tracks that separate Santa Fe Drive from the Gates property.
"Kentucky Avenue Bridge" is a bit confusing as the bridge runs just north of West Tennessee Avenue, right at the south edge of Vanderbilt Park. There is no access to the bridge from Vanderbilt Park, however. You can access the Platte River Trail from Johnson-Habitat Park, which is just north of Vanderbilt Park. Follow the trail south about one quarter mile and you will see the access ramp to the bridge.
A signature obelisk, lighted at night, marks the intersection of the bridge with the Platte River Trail. The bridge uses perforated metal screen walls made from Corten (naturally weathered) steel and these are also illuminated with continuous linear lighting.
A network of other bridges, made with different varieties of the weathered steel will provide circulation throughout the new Gates District. read more
