There are miles of trails and once the trails have been groomed, skied and packed in, the snow sticks around a while. Plus their location to the east of Rochester and right on the lake means they often get several inches of new snow when other parks might only get a dusting. My husband and I are avid cross-country skiers and we have skied all over the park, including areas that are not groomed. The park is beautiful, quiet, with ample parking, and when the temps are good, it is about the best you can get. There are trails that are more easy/flat, trails that wind through woods, trails with up and down hills, trails in the pine forest, trails across the open fields - lots of options for every level of skier!! There are also many parking lots where you can access the trails, and for those who like other winter activities, like ice fishing and sledding, there are lots of places to enjoy. Beautiful new park on the Webster side of the sandbar that runs between Lake Ontario and…read moreIrondequoit Bay, where cottages line both sides of the road, and ends at a marina when the bridge is closed (Spring, Summer, and Autumn). Castaways is visible from the park. There is ample parking, with a lot on each side of the street, as well as a lane designated for it in the street. Nice, new landscaping featuring mostly flowering varieties of shrubs (hydrangea, Spirea, Viburnums, etc.) There are benches galore for folks to look out at the lake and contemplate. The bay side features a boardwalk that can accommodate the docking of several boats. The lake side features a playground for the kiddos, a shaded area, as well as some Adirondack chairs. Some folks bring their own chaise loungers or folding chairs to enjoy the weather and sights. Lots of folks are reading under trees (mostly large cottonwoods), there are a few bikes going by, but there are mostly pedestrians. There are a couple of unisex bathrooms featuring Dyson hand dryers. Today is a Saturday in July 2024, the temp is 80°F, with 50% humidity and clear skies, and I'm surprised that there aren't way more folks here. They might be watching the Olympics, as they just started today. Their loss...

I had no idea this place was here! What a great place for a variety of activities!…read moreFirst of all, I LOVE that there is a large, flat, trail around the big field. This is perfect for trail running. The trail is wide and you're not going to have to worry about mountain bikers sneaking up on you over that next ridge. It's perfect for laps. Heading into the woods, there are decent trails for hiking. There were not many people here when I went on a Saturday morning. A boy scout troop was rebuilding a sign near the parking lot, but other than that, we only encountered a few people walking their dogs in the woods. There is also easy access to other trail systems from the trails in the Gosnell Big Woods. You can plan a lengthy day hike right here in Webster with trails covering miles of terrain. Some areas seemed particularly boggy and buggy, and the breezes are limited because of the dense tree cover. Prepare yourself with bug spray, and of course check yourself for ticks after you've been on a hike. Gosnell is a great place for trail running, getting out into nature without having to go very far. I would dare say it's a hidden gem of a place right in our own back door!

The trails are well marked and easy to explore and the forest provides a beautiful hike and enjoyment of nature. There is also a large wildflower field to enjoy and many insects, birds, and other critters to see. The small woods trail weaves past a beautiful meadow and young transitional forest while the big woods forest weaves through "the big woods" with all the ancient and beautiful trees. This is a good place to bring your dog for a walk and burn off some energy! A beautiful place to visit and enjoy some beautiful natural landscape.

Crittenden Park was 'developed' partly to prevent any development from occurring in this area…read more Having grown up on Crittenden Road in the 1960's/70's, much of the land in this area is lowland and 'swamp' like in spots, thus preventing any reasonable other use for the land. For years, this area was my 'playground'. My friends, siblings and I spent a lot of time walking all over this area along Crittenden Road which was a wilderness close to civilization. Appreciate this area for what it is: free open space for people to play, or to hike in the area and appreciate the extensive wildlife that calls this area 'home'. Beautiful, quiet, and little evidence of human occupancy. A nice reprieve in this overdeveloped world of ours.

We live near Highland Park, so walked to the corner of Clinton & Field Streets and followed the well-marked trail up to the peak (lots of green paint on trees, to guide you). You could also enter from the parking lot of Hillside off of Highland Ave. It is one of a range of four hills in the city -- Cobbs Hill, Pinnacle Hill, Highland Hill (in Highland Park) and Mount Hope (in Mount Hope Cemetery). Easy walk on the Genesee Riverwalk trail to lower falls. The seat of forgetting and remembering is a must-see!
