I recommend parking inside the MATC parking structure if you need to be here for more than 2 hours. Street parking is limited with a max time of 2 hours. The MATC lot is under $10 for a 7/8 hour day. MATC parking structure address: 1050 North 8th Street, courthouse is on State and 9th. Short walk, just don't forget where you parked!

On the other hand, the parking garage smells nasty and is creepy, the maze to get to where you need to be is perplexing and no one wants to be wanded by security to start the day. My trip to Lake Co corrections facility started out that very same way. An Innocent trip out to northern 'burbs for some good ol' drinking and maybe some highly illicit narcotics. Everything at said party was fine until the cops showed up and some jack hole opened the door for them. Seems the fine police dept. of Crystal Lake doesn't like it when there is underage drinking, drug dealing, and or loud music. Since someone let them in it gave them the ability to search everyone in the house and property. Bad for me. I was caught with a beer in my hand and what I refer to as my "Saturday night special" in my pocket. Bad for me. Good for the god fearing folk of Crystal Lake. Within minutes many of us where whisked away to Lake Co. Jail at around 3 a.m. I found Lake Jail to be fairly easy going. Actually it was fairly modern compared to Kane Co. Your finger prints were taken electronically and put into a national data base instantly. All doors were controlled electronically also. Even their construction seemed to be a little ahead of the times although the good old toilet\ sink combo never seems to get old in these places We were processed through in half time it take in Cook Co. Although there were 3\4 less people than usually processed through Cook in a given day. They gave us breakfast while in holding that was not that bad( they even had real eggs, and orange juice). Then at a little after 9 a.m. I stood before the judge whom released me on my own recognisance. Then the trip to get back home once again. Lucky for me the Metra train back to the city is only like a half mile from the court house. Unluckily for me all my money had been confiscated by the sheriff as evidence. The train conductor let me ride for free, and I walked back home from down town. Lesson learned: Never go to a party with abunch of narcotics on your person. Employers tend to shy away from those with" distribution of narcotics" on their record. Then again many don't.

Every person I speak to gives me different instructions. I've been told to file online, come in person, call one number, then another, and I've been sent from office to office with no clear direction. I filed online as instructed and was told I would receive a court date by mail. Two months later, I have received nothing. I've called multiple times, left voicemails, sent emails, and followed up repeatedly without getting a response or any meaningful assistance. I have explained that I am genuinely concerned for my safety, yet I feel like no one wants to take responsibility for helping me. I've been to two police departments and two sheriff's offices, and each one has referred me somewhere else. It feels like I'm stuck in an endless loop while trying to access a process that is supposed to exist to protect people. I'm not writing this because I expect special treatment. I simply want someone to explain the correct process and help me move forward. When someone reaches out because they don't feel safe, they shouldn't have to spend months being ignored or bounced between agencies. The lack of communication and accountability has left me feeling abandoned by the very system that is supposed to help.

Go to Daley Center for that. It is somewhere in the basement. You need to do that 24 hours before the big day and it is valid for 60 days. Then you go to 118 N. Clark St. The place you looking for is in the basement also. It is kind of hard to find it, cause it is in a padway. Wonder why....... No appoitments accepted. You need to get in a line. There is few rooms where the ceremony will be perform. The ceremony takes usually few more minutes and it is host by city judge. Some of them are really really nice and cool :_) Some of them just doing there job I guess :_(

I don't know why I'm always disappointed by government employees and services. I should know better…read morethan to expect anything besides a terrible experience. It's just frustrating that almost anytime you deal with a governmental employee, they seem gruff at best. And even those working in one of the more joyous units of county government! I called with some questions when the woman called me back, she was muttering under her breath--I don't think she expected me to pick up because I had call screening on. But she apologized for like 30 seconds at the beginning of the call saying it was a bad day, she was annoyed, but not at me--a very professional start. She did provide good directions--119 W Randolph, take the escalator downstairs. And yes, you'll enter on the Randolph side; don't use the Clark or LaSalle entrance or you'll probably get a bit turned around. But what was especially annoying is that they close for like 2.5 hours during the day. That isn't really made clear anywhere except for the sign right outside the office door, and in the two phone calls I had with them before stopping in they didn't mention being closed from 11:30 to 2. So plan accordingly. There's a $10 fee, cash only (also incredibly weird as far as I'm concerned, from both the safety perspective and that it's the year 2026). If you forget your fee, there's an ATM upstairs. On the plus side, this location performs ceremonies all week without appointments, unlike the suburban courthouses. Saturday they do require appointments, but it's nice that do any on Saturdays.

When we decided to get married, we knew we wanted a City Hall ceremony, for multiple reasons. The…read morewhole time, we planned to get married downtown, but when they stopped taking appointments for awhile, I panicked and called Skokie to see if they still were. This was right before the Delta surge, so I don't know what, if anything, has changed, but at the time, we were allowed 4 people to go in with us. I later on found out downtown resumed taking appointments and made one there, but we kept circling back to Skokie, because again, multiple reasons. Downtown only allowed 2 people to go in, there's no easy parking and we wanted to take some photos at spots up north, so we'd be driving in all sorts of circles in such a short period of time. After much debate, we figured Skokie would be easier to navigate for my mom, easier to hit up our photo locations and allowed us to have 2 extra people, which ended up being really nice and much needed on the actual day. This was a rough day. My mom unexpectedly passed a couple weeks prior and I stopped caring about our wedding plans completely. My friends came through and helped get me out of my sadness long enough to have a wonderful day, and the judge? Well, he was great. We actually ended up having 5 people with us (unintentionally) and he didn't mind. He allowed (only) us to take our masks off and then claimed it was his anniversary day, too. He probably tells that to everyone, or maybe it really was, but he really put a smile on everyone's face. If I remember correctly, we were the 2nd to last to get married, but he didn't rush us. He made sure the photographer got all of her photos, and our friends, too! We had 3 separate cars of people driving here. The first 2 cars were friends we sent ahead to "check-in" for us and let them know we were on our way, since we had to make a quick pit stop after the first photo location. Security was quick to come out and remind us about masks, which we then panicked about when we realized my stepdad didn't have his and my friends who were inside had all the extras. In all that chaos, everything worked out. During covid, at least, they have you check-in, pay the fee (I think it was $10) and then have you wait a little bit before they get started. Each couple, and their party, goes in one at a time and I think they had something like 6 spots per day, which is why it was important to call and make that appointment. I recently remarked to my husband that it would have been nice to have some pictures outside of City Hall, but we had no regrets about choosing this location and there was a spot right out front where we were able to take some really nice photos.

I had to get a copy of my birth certificate from the very official Register of Deeds. The process was pretty easy and it cost me a whole $20. Walk in, fill out form, get copy of proof that I exist, pay twenty bones, walk out. There's a metal detector, and you have to walk through it. I think that's customary in court-type-houses, generally. Also: Register of Deeds is a pretty ridiculous and official title. Not as official or ridiculous as Comptroller, though.

Known for breweries and bratwurst, one or the other of those are on practically every corner. I've not historically been the biggest fan of bratwurst but had a Reuben bratwurst that makes my mouth water thinking about it. I had fun going to some shops with my little one, including a couple children's shops (BlackBear Boutique and Rainbow Booksellers, in particular). Rainbow Booksellers is only open a couple days per week so make sure to prioritize it if you are wanting to go. I'd planned to take my kiddo to the children's museum, but she fell asleep so that will wait for another trip. I think there are at least a couple children's museum-like places here. And in the downtown area there are several music venues; I've only been to Pabst many years ago, and I'd love to visit the High Life Theatre as well. And soon will attend a Brewers game to see the sausage race live and in person!

Look for signs because there are some limited time parking spots and you will get ticketed. Super old building. Horrible climate control. If you have to use the bathroom, be sure you are on the right floor. Some have men's only, some have women's only. No unisex or family bathroom. Security at the door was friendly and fast.
