I got a ticket on 10/29/20 going into the Forest preserve @ 7am to continue my walk as I have for the past 150 days. This time there was a Forest Preserve cop there to give me a ticket for running a stop sign. Anyhow this made it necessary for me to go to the Skokie Courthouse to pay for (are you ready for this?) a $210 dollar ticket plus having to take traffic safety school so the ticket isn't on my record. I went in today 11/02/20 to take care of this and pay for the fine (what a joke). Going into court buildings you are required empty your pockets and go through metal detectors like the airports. In addition because of the Covid protocol you need to get you temperature scanned and asked the normal Covid symptom questions. You are then directed into a line to stand and wait. I ended waiting about 30 minutes. They have only one person handling the people. I got up to the counter expecting to pay the fine and leave, unfortunately the ticket wasn't in their computer system yet so they couldn't accept a credit card payment. I had to leave the building go to my bank & get a money order, then go through the whole screening process and stand in line again. Talk about killing 3-4hrs that should have been a simple in and out. At least the staff was pretty cool. The police officer at the door was very helpful as were the clerks that processed my payment. Still $210 dollars (OUCH) for a stupid ticket

Skokie courthouse marriage.

My now husband and I came here on June 22nd for our scheduled appointment for a courthouse marriage. Our appointment was at 2:30 p.m. though we had to wait awhile before they called our name, turns out it wasn't just us that had the same appointment time. We were the second couple to be called in, the process was extremely quick and easy, and they told us to come back in about 7-10 days for the certified copies of our marriage certificate. I'd recommend the Skokie courthouse for marriage, especially if you're tired of waiting and want something quick during covid. The judges had a mask/face covering on, and we were socially distanced since the podium is a ways away from them.

Skokie isn't that far away and just the availability of parking would make it an easier place to visit. This location of the county clerk, inside the Skokie Courthouse, is maybe a mile from Old Orchard Shopping Center (I guess I've never driven in this direction on that road because I had no clue it was here). There's ample parking at the courthouse. Obviously lots of court proceedings take place here but there's also offices for the Cook County Sheriff and other offices, including the clerk. It was a pretty quick visit for me--I was in and out of the building within about ten minutes. The woman who helped me seemed like a pretty unfriendly human, so that was too bad (I never understand this--it's not my fault that you work where you do or that you hate your job or whatever, so I'm not sure why people act as though they hate the fact you're making them do it). As of 2023, copies of a birth certificate are $15 for the first copy and $4 for each additional one. There's a cafeteria here though I don't know if they actually serve food here, at least anymore--maybe that changed during the pandemic. But they do have a lot of tables in the cafeteria. There's also at least one ATM in the building just past the security station. When you visit you'll have to put all your things through the security check so I'd suggest packing lightly.

Dave made my highly-contested case a big win!…read more Do not be deceived by the two negative reviews in the past month. Dave Wolkowitz is top-notch. When a reviewer has to resort to name-calling and has no details to his/her case, you have to suspect that something is more wrong with the reviewer than the attorney. From the very beginning, I came to Dave with a case that proved to be quite challenging. Unlike any normal uncontested case, this one proved to be highly-contested and lasted for over 2 years. Throughout this process, there were two trials; an extended order of protection; supervised parenting; financial settlements; property-separation settlements; a court-appointed psychiatrist for custody evaluation; a guardian ad litem; expert witnesses; court transcripts; and hours and hours of testimony. Through it all, Dave was patient, attentive, kind and effective. Dave knew what to do and how to go about doing it, even before the opposing counsel acted. This divorce could have easily costed over hundreds of thousands of dollars. Dave was so cost-conscious that this divorce cost well less than even one hundred thousand dollars! My ex-spouse spent an estimate of three times as much, using four to five lawyers who threw everything but the kitchen sink at us, in court. Dave handled these motions, seamlessly, and with a disciplined fiscal responsibility that would make any member of Congress envious. Dave not only saved me heaps in the divorce, he was highly effective in neutralizing the opposing counsel (OC). One of the OCs tried to steer the case to a different court and by a different process. Dave was not fooled and fought to keep everything on track. Another OC literally tried to belittle him before the Judge, but Dave remained calm and determined. A third OC tried to justify a part of the law in an inaccurate manner, but Dave immediately retorted the correct interpretation. Dave knew the section and subsection of the law right away and brought this to the Court. Folks, this is what makes a good lawyer! Dave knows the law and he is quick on his feet. Dave also knows where to get good resources to back him up. In my case, Dave consulted with a psychiatrist and successfully discredited not one, but two of my ex-spouse's psychiatrists! This was a key battle in my case that I believe ultimately won me full custody of my child and everything else I wanted from the Court. And, because he is quick on his feet, Dave was able to discredit the major positions of both psychiatrists by simply demonstrate how they conflict their own logic and conclusions. Bottom line, if you want a lawyer with a quick wit and an in-depth knowledge of the law, then Dave is your man. Let's be honest, going through a divorce, especially a non-contested one and for the first time, can be emotionally exhausting. Dave made the situation comfortable, with his sense of humor, kind rapport and reassurance with a battle plan. He is open-minded; continuously asking for my input; without requiring me to take time off of work to go to Court every time the OC thinks of something else to falsely accuse me of doing. Even when one OC tried to get me in trouble with my job by involving Human Resources, Dave was there to reassure me and keep me focused on the end-goal. Every OC tried to provoke me in some way (hey, it's what lawyers are known for, right?), Dave showed compassion and understanding - something you normally do not expect from a lawyer. All of this, while keeping general costs low and offering discounts, helped making this divorce yield the best results one could ever ask for. Even as we speak, my ex-spouse is seriously considering an appeal. Dave has offered to file the brief on my behalf for... get ready... Free! What kind of lawyer does this? Dave, that's who. By the way, I found Dave after carefully researching reviews on Yelp and other sites. Obviously, for me, the positive reviews were all true and it was well worth retaining Dave Wolkowitz.

I'm very grateful to Dave and Sam for their support during my divorce process. Both of them were…read moreprofessional, responsive, and sensitive to my need for the case to be completed quickly. Fortunately, my situation didn't involve major complications, and thanks to Dave's guidance everything was handled efficiently and without unnecessary delays. Thank you, Dave and Sam!
