Kenny's Market is not a place you think would have an impressive selection of craft beer. When you drive by the location on Ocean Ave, west of the tracks, it looks like a typical neighborhood convenient store that only locals go to buy smokes, a 40 of malt liquor, or a pack of gum.
If you are one of the people "in the know" within the craft beer community here in PBC -- especially if you're really dedicated to (obsessive with) craft beer, you don't necessarily let out where you buy your bottles. Part of it is the coolness factor of knowing something most people don't -- where you don't have to go to Total Wine. Part of it is also you don't want anyone else buying what you intended. And being that Kenny's doesn't give any hint from the outside as to what they have in the back aisle across from the beverage coolers, you feel like you're being all sneaky and incognito in finding some hidden treasure before someone else doe.
Not that I think people are going to stampede here and clean off the shelves upon this review -- I'm sure the store wouldn't mind making money. Kenny's is a place where you can find some solid bottles (and cans) of craft beer that you aren't going to find at the major wine & spirits chains, let alone Publix. The first time, the second time, the third time, any time I've walked into Kenny's, I know I'm going to find something good. Additionally, it was here where I figured out where some people at previous bottle shares I've attended went to buy their beers.
Yes, they have all the macro beers too -- it is a convenience store, remember. But I am still impressed they have the variety in stock that they do -- e.g. Dark Island Reserve (2015) by Orkney Brewery, Funky Buddha's Last Snow (before they sold out and started being produced by Constellation Brands). Especially, when some of the bottles (22 oz/750ml) are BOGO. For example, I've bought multiple bombers of Ommegang as a result of this special, so it's solid.
Additionally, their wine selection in the aisle before that is pretty good, if you're not the brewhead type. Especially, if you're in a bind -- going to a party, need something for a dinner date, you can find something. And if you go during the morning and afternoon, they apparently make good sandwiches -- usually, when I've gone at night, the grill is shutdown, so keep that in mind.
If you live in Delray/Boynton, like craft beer, and looking for something the major chains may not have, then Kenny's Market is a place you need to discover. read more
