This is the little shopping centre that contains a few shops, travel agents, hairdressers, baguette…read moreshop, chemist, bar, card shops, SubWay, charity shops and Waitrose. The shopping centre is the central point of thatcham town centre, there are a couple of empty stores and sometimes quite a lot of rubbish from Subway. In general a good shopping Centre.

Marks and Spencer are always fighting against their traditional affluent image aren't they? Well…read morethere not that successful at it within Newbury. The store is still dominated by traditional women's clothing, aimed at the more discerning customer, and although the Per Unu range has inspired some of the younger market to participate the feel is still traditional. The supermarket at the rear of the shop is classy, elegent and obviously expensive! The only time I buy food here is when I have an M&S voucher to offset the cost of the produce! (although I must admit the food is very very good from Marks and Spencer!!) Upstairs they have a very generous lingerie department (although the introduction of the additional charge for the more well developed lady has been a cause for concern!). Mens and children's ranges are also available, although both sections seem rather underdeveloped.

An absolutely huge range of products, in particular women's clothing, but the store offers a large…read morevariety or mens and children's clothing also, alongside it's reasonably sized homewares section at the rear of the shop. The store can be quite chaotic at times and I find that whatever the spray their clothes with brings me out in a rash (sensitive skin!) so I tried not to spend a long time browsing the clothes sections. I have found some great bargains within the homeware range though, ranging from last years expensive kitchen designer set (RRP £100) bought for £25to ornate mirrors reduced to less than £5. Other accessories available include smellies, bags, shoes and suitcases.

If by some strange chance you see something that you remotely like (because lime green or orange is really the colour for you) how do you know you're getting a bargain? Just because the label says it was going for £120 and now it's £35, when was that, for 5 mins in their Outer Hebrides outlet? Having said all that you can get some reasonable stuff in their homeware section which is, by comparison to the clothing, reasonably laid out.

I find treating the customer this way is contemptuous Today I returned a Masai cotton top which I bought a year ago, yes I know you are thinking well you have had it a year, yes and I would say the same if I had worn it every week and got my wear out of it, when in fact I had worn it only 5 times. I pointed this out to the store supervisor but she wasn't interested in that. She just kept saying well you have had it a year. Needless to say I did not get a refund but then knowing how they deal with returns I was not expecting one. Whilst I am on the subject I find the staff on the concession counters abysmal, they might a well have a do not disturb sign around their neck.

The exact same items that are on sale in regular supermarkets for say £3 are there for a quid. I went in not needing anything and came out loaded down with goodies and had only spent £8. The iPod/Phone charger that plugs into your car's cigarette lighter was a real find and just a quid! Amazing. The 99p Shop is the same only even cheaper!! Look after the pennies as they say.

This is a very large store, spread out over a number of floors you can get anything you need…read morefashion or home wise. A lot of the brands they sell can be pricey, although they seem to have sales every few weeks so you can always save some money. I was lucky enough to be able to go a preview night before it opened in 2011. They also have an outlet store in the Kennet Centre where they previously were.
