As expected yet another bad experience when shopping at the womenswear department. Camp Hopson's returns policy comes from the position that the customer must always be at fault.i.e They must have washed the garment at too high a temperature or at the wrong cycle. I find treating the customer this way is contemptuous Today I returned a Masai cotton top which I bought a year ago, yes I know you are thinking well you have had it a year, yes and I would say the same if I had worn it every week and got my wear out of it, when in fact I had worn it only 5 times. I pointed this out to the store supervisor but she wasn't interested in that. She just kept saying well you have had it a year. Needless to say I did not get a refund but then knowing how they deal with returns I was not expecting one. Whilst I am on the subject I find the staff on the concession counters abysmal, they might a well have a do not disturb sign around their neck. read more

Updated 31/12/11 Fantastic sales- a proper 20% off all Swarovski and 25% off all Mont Blanc pens ! A classic department store. Come at the right time and there are some great bargains to be had. Also do things like carpets and vinyl flooring in their furniture store. read more

Traditional, affluent, opulent, classy, distinguished are but a few of the words to describe Camp Hopsons. They have been in the centre of Newbury for decades and control many of the shopping rights within the townthey appear to have a say on what shops appear, and what location and at what point in time. Recently having undergone a refurbishment, Camps has lost some of it's traditional decor and pandered to the more retailed whimsthe haberdashery department has all but faded into an obscure room on the top floor, and the perfume counters down dominate the majority of the lower level. Clothing ranges are expensive with Fenn Wright Mason and Jaegar available, and limited options available for the more budget conscious shopper. However sales are a big deal at Camps, with huge discounts and bargains to be had, especially within homewares - suitcases, linen, accessories, footwear and lingerie are all popular during the sales! read more

They love to confuse. Denbyware next to cheap china dogs....tat next to classy brands...£90 mirrors reduced to £20! It's an institution and a pilgrimage whenever family stay over as there are so few of these dept stores left. Great location, good store design, but ruined by cluttered aisles (though not as bad as Smith & Bradbears in Romsey). Check out the website for a taste of Grace Brothers! read more

As a Newbury resident I feel that I should be proud that we have our own local department store but somehow Camp Hopson just doesn't cut it for me. Their men's clothes department is laughably overpriced and either high-end old fashioned or high-end gaudy (last years men's summer range would only look acceptable if you were at the helm of your Sunseeker off the Amalfi coast). Does anybody actually buy this stuff!!! Can't really comment on the women's section, but they do have a reasonable range of bags, shoes etc. Also a perfume section. The gifts and ornaments are all a bit typical of what you would get anywhere else. They used to have some original, unique bits and pieces but not any more. Oh and they do have a large furniture department, but again it's all a bit staid Come on Camp's I really want to like you but you're going to have to try a whole lot harder! read more

I love visiting this store. It is very classy and is a great example of an independent department store. Fairly expensive however has some amazing sales and brands on offer. Recently refurbished making it seem modern yet it still retains some of its character. Make sure to visit the homewares and furniture department in the back, beyond the car park. read more

Good range of furniture badly displayed despite the large floor space. The products are packed in like a furniture warehouse rather than a prestigious store. Boxes were left lying around. Some sofas were stored on the ends despite being out of their packaging. Few prices on display. No one approached us to offer service despite touring the store floor twice and trying a number of sofas. read more

This department store is a true gem. Personally, I think it has the widest and best selection of cards and small gifts in the area. They also stock furniture which is housed in a separate building from the main store - great range of funky shoes. The cafe does one hell of a coffee. So give Marks and Sparks and Debenhams the boot!!! read more

Superb Customer Service - in fact the best Customer care I have ever experienced. Something which has been lost in so many other shops.

Traditional store, with good service. The store can sometimes look a bit messy but they have a great selection, Sales and Promotional offers are often genuine and very good value for quality products! read more

Shocking after sales service, when goods break down / fall apart after 28 days, Camp's are apparently not liable?!!

Over-priced snooty store. I would never shop there.
