I boarded 3 fur babies for 6 days; two of which needed medicine administered. One day I called to check on them and was told they were peeing in their beds; therefore, they would use the house beds so they could wash them and not have to worry about the beds getting ruined. Also, one was giving them problems and trying to bite them when trying to give her eye drops. I told them it would help if you use the cone we provided. They replied that they were unable to use the cone to give the eye drops because it made it difficult to get to her eyes. Let me get to my point of this review....when we picked up our babies we were given a completely soiled (soaked with pee) pet bed, unused syringes (one needed daily insulin shots) and excess medicine (obviously not all medicine was administered). The next day, 2 (the ones who needed medication administered during their stay) out of 3 of our babies were in the ER. The following day 1 of them passed away. The other spent 7 hours in the ER and made a slow recovery. I would NEVER board here again or recommend this facility after losing a pet from entrusting them to do the right thing while in their care. read more

We boarded our two dogs for mothers day weekend. Pick them up on Monday. Our large dog kept coughing and sneezing then our smaller dog. Took them to their veterinarian they both were diagnosed with kennel cough. My dogs never have been sick since we owned them. We use to board our dogs at the veterinarian but they are short of staff and this why we used Kennel Care. I am soo disappointed had to pay for boarding then a extra expense for the veterinarian. My smaller dog almost did not make it but she has a great veterinarian that helped us. I did notify Kennel Care and was told they do check every dog for Kennel cough vaccine but have no idea which dogs are asymptomatic. I think the place can be a little more cleaner. read more

We toured this place and filled out paperwork for one of our dogs to stay. They confirmed the account and approved the stay and was not until the day we took him there that we were told they could not accept him because he was not yet neutered. OK, so we got him neutered that week and then rescheduled his stay and again they waited until we got back there to say they could not board him because he needed the kennel cough vaccine. At what point in time were your staff going to notify us of this from when you approved his shot records up front? I have never boarded any of my pets so I had no clue of this requirement. OK so then we get him the kennel cough and rebooked him and again when we went to drop him off was told we could not board him because he needed to be 2 weeks out from his neuter. Again when was someone going to tell us that instead of rebooking and confirming. So here we are now wasted 3 days of being late to work and gas money travelling back and forth for nothing. We ended up using a local vet that does boarding and he has been twice and I have had no issues and they were even nice enough to make sure his neuter surgery was ok free of charge. This is the most unorganized place ever where obviously noone effectively communicates with you or other staff. read more

I don't typically post reviews, but felt so strongly about my experience I must. I just moved to the area and travel quite frequently for work. I visited the facility in advance of letting my small dogs stay there and requested a tour. Everything seemed fine at the time, as clean as a dog boarding facility could be (I thought). I dropped them off and called day 1 at noon, just to ensure they were ok. No answer but left a voicemail. No call back that day. No call back the next day, despite multiple attempts. My co-worker traveling with me said that it was so odd she called from a different area code and the phone was answered. They said the phone is answered based on how busy the lobby is and they had "just played the messages from yesterday". I called on the third day and said I would be there at 6pm, or possibly a few minutes after. I called at 5:30. They said "the desk has already gone and technicians can't check out pets". I was horrified at the response. I have never heard such a thing in all of my years as a pet parent. When I picked them up they were terrified. The person at the front desk and the person handling the dogs were visibly arguing in front of me about staffing issues and workload. I URGE you to please research this facility before leaving your pet. read more

I took our doodle for 3 nights of boarding. I was very disappointed when we picked him up. First, our dog was brought from the back with lots of poop on his bottom and apparently no one saw that but us. This was especially bad since we requested a bath before he was returned to us. They did give him a quick washup after we insisted. To make matters worse, when we got home we saw that he had sores on his shins and fleas. I guess these came from being on the concrete floor. My issue is no one seemed to know what was happening with him. It appears that only one person, John, is responsible for the dogs. I would not recommend this facility to any one looking for quality care. read more

I have boarded before at Kennel Care but that was three years ago. Now I will never go back to there again. New management for sure . I am so disappointed with the care they gave my 9 month old golden doodle. I had called a month in advance for the reservation because of the Christmas season. Upon arrival I Though All seamed ok. I asked the new manager if I could call to check on my dog and he said you can call as many times as you like. Ok. Well the next day I called got an answering machine asked for a call back. Called again answering machine asked to please call back . No reply 3 times. Next day I kept calling till someone answered. There comment to me was " you know we are very busy". I asked if they have picked up any of my messages. Answer was no they did not pick up any messages from anyone. WHAT.. I almost went through the phone. Finally the third day the only person I could get on the phone was MELISSA. Now thank goodness she had some concerns and went personally to check on my dog. She was by far the BEST person working there. Ok. When I went to go pick up my puppy he smelled of urine so bad. He had feces hanging from behind. I couldn't wait to get him home to bath him. On the three hour drive back to our home my puppy was coughing. So now I am dealing with kennel cough also. My puppy had his shot for kennel cough but the bacteria in there place was present for sure. They must not disinfect there kennel properly. I am going to report this to the Veterinarians in the Columbia area. I will never board there again and I strongly urged anyone who does want to board their precious pet ask to see where your dog is located and walk in the back to see for yourself. If it smells of urine walk out. read more

Don't advertise for group play on your website if you DO NOT offer it. Employees have said this out of their mouths that they don't let the dogs play with each other because of "safety". It's a daycare!!!! Dogs can burn off energy when they are left in a crate all day by themselves. Do better with your advertising read more

I took Tzu there to board for eight days. He lost 2 pounds in that time. Picked him up and looked horrible. I would never take my dog there again! The worst care ever! We just dropped our puppies off for boarding today, and I couldn't wait to post a review. Our two puppies are not even 4 months old. They are my unofficial ESAs (3 failed spinal surgeries from an injury I got in Iraq in the Army). I didn't want to leave them, but I have to fly across country to my dad (who can't fly on his own due to dementia) and my sister (who is an amazing rock star caring for my dad). I was dreading this afternoon, having to part with our sweet fur babies, who have so quickly become a part of our family. My husband, two sons, and I came in with arms full of their food, beds, and treats; not sure what to expect. We were all floored by the attention and care they recieved immediately. Every single staff member was professional and kind; but more importantly, showed genuine caring for our pups, as well as for us. I can't say strongly enough how valuable that is for our piece of mind. Thank you so much!!!!! read more

In January 2015 we boarded our dog for one night (Sat/ Sun) at this kennel. We had used them a handful of times before for very brief stays (1-2 nights) w/o incident, however, after this experience, our dog (or any animal of ours) will never return. When we picked her up, we found that she had not been fed the food we left her and have no faith she was fed any food at all; she had soiled her bed (which she has never done in her 9 yrs) and no one was able to tell us when this happened, how long it had been soiled and actually returned it to us in this condition - ruined; given the soiling of her bed, we have no faith that she was let out to go to the bathroom during her stay; and, she had not been given all doses of her medication, but yet the staff couldn't locate the resulting leftover medication, which required us to go back days later to pick it up. The reaction of one staff member, Matt, on the day we picked her up was - what are you so upset about?? The next day, Jessica, the office manager: (1) admitted that our dog was not fed the food we left and that the employee who was responsible for feeding her, Matt, had no explanation as to how he missed the fact she was to be fed her own food. Jessica did indicate that our dog received the kennel's food, but when I asked how we could possibly trust this given Matt was the one in charge of the feedings, she had no retort; (2) admitted she couldn't tell us when our dog's bed was soiled, how long she had been without it (did she even have it to sleep on Saturday night?) and that it should not have been returned to us in that condition. In fact, Jessica said they do not return dog beds in that condition and that is why it was in the laundry room, but yet no one can explain when/why it was just tossed in the laundry room and never laundered; (3) told me it was our fault for not specifically indicating our dog needed to be fed/medicated upon dropping her off first thing Saturday morning, even though no one indicated she would not be and we clearly left the exact amount of food and medication for her to be fed and medicated twice Saturday and twice Sunday; (4) explained that the front desk clerk, Stacy, upon pick up did not check for the medication in its normal storage space b/c when I looked in my dog's bag, noted all of the dog food was still in the bag, untouched, and therefore asked where the medication was, Stacy's explanation to Jessica was that she assumed it [the medication] wasn't in the bag. Well, if I said the medication wasn't in the bag and Stacy assumed it wasn't in the bag based upon my saying this, shouldn't Stacy have checked the place where the kennel stores all medications? Again, no answer. The long and the short of the conversation was that, while Jessica admitted our dog did not receive the care we paid for her to receive, the kennel could not refund $59 for the stay...they could only credit our account for a future stay. I told Jessica that it wasn't a matter that they couldn't refund the stay, it was that they wouldn't. Jessica then stated they have a no refund policy and, in fact, have never refunded a customer's money. [Of note, this "no refund policy" is not contained within the Terms they have you execute when you drop your animal off.] When I again demanded the refund, Jessica indicated she would talk with the accountant and owner the next day and call me back. When Jessica called back, not only had the accountant and owner refused the $59 refund, but they decided to only credit our account $28. I then requested to speak to the owner and was declined, but was assured by Jessica that he would call me. To this day, I have never received a return call. Not only did our dog suffer a horrendous visit at this kennel which ended our daughter's 16th birthday celebration on a sour note, we paid $59 for services we did not receive and had to replace a $35 dog bed. I have since learned this kennel is NOT accredited with the BBB and have been told by another individual that they used this kennel once and will also never return. So, please, beware and think twice before entrusting your family member to this kennel. If they admittedly take poor care of your loved one, all they will do is offer to care for your loved one again at a reduced rate w/no explanation as to why they provided substandard care in the first place. I can't say enough nice things about Kennel Care! Jessica, the office manager, is not only professional but goes above and beyond her office job. I bring my dog, Rainbow in any time we go out of town and she loves it. We tried another place and my Rainbow had such anxiety the next time we went back. When I take her to Kennel Care Rainbow goes crazy when she sees Jessica. They all always give rainbow so much extra attention. If you need somewhere that will not only board and groom your animal, they will love them as their own then go to Kennel Care! read more

Terrible experience. Although the facility was clean and the runs were decent, the customer service was lacking. We were quoted one price over the phone and then expected to pay a price that was near $50 more when we picked our dog up. The other big issue I had with this kennel was that we paid for a bath, charged over $20, and our dog isn't even clean. She stinks worse than when we left her! I left her food as well, and when we picked her up there was at least 5 or 6 days worth of food more than should have been left. I will not be using this kennel again and they did nothing to try to make this negative experience right. read more

HORRIBLE!!!! This is strictly a kennel! Dogs are kept in jail most of the day, at least this is what it looks like. They are even referred to as blocks like jail. Dogs are taken out for potty breaks and a couple 15 min breaks if conditions permit for 1 on 1 play. If your boarding and your good with that then great. You've found a cheap boarding option that lets your dog out for maybe an hour a day. HOWEVER they advertise for doggy daycare and this is what you get! What kind of daycare is this?! No group play, in the kennel 90% of the day, limited human interaction. Did I mention they advertise group play on there website! But as soon as I mentioned daycare the first words out of their mouth was we don't do group play for safety! They aren't even trained enough to perform temperment testing of dogs or knowledgeable about behavior to be able to place dogs in safe playgroups in order to burn off energy, socialization and have fun! My dog has attended numerous daycares before moving to Elgin and has never had a daycare that doesn't provide group play and on top of that spend 90%of the day in a CONCRETE CELL!!!!!!! You might as well leave them in a crate all day at home and have a dog walker come let them out they would be in way better conditions than this place. If you love your dog look elsewhere!!! read more

This kennel used to provide reputable services. The staff used to be professional and friendly and it appeared that they really cared about the animals left in their custody, but over the last couple of years, the management/staff and the facility have gone down. There are a lot of teenagers working there, who could care less about how your pets are treated. The last and final time that I left my 2 dogs at Kennel Care, they placed them in a pen housed way in the back of the facility, stating that there were no more pens avail. near the front of the building that could house 2 dogs together (mind you I have a shitzu and a chihuahua, really?). When I requested to walk back to see where my dogs would be housed for the weekend, I almost passed out. The area was so isolated from the staff hub and even the other dogs, I know that they would have easily been forgotten about for the entire weekend. After demanding that they moved to a more central area of the building, they magically found a pen that could accommodate 2 dogs near the front of the facility. I had reservations about leaving them at that point, but had no other options, as I was on my way to a mandatory conference. When I returned, they, as well as their bedding, were filthy and they drank nearly a gallon of water each when they got home, which showed me that they had received minimal- no care at all, probably didn't get walked/let out, fed, given water, anything over the weekend. This place sucks! Don't leave your pets here if you love them. Just have a neighbor come in and feed them, give them water and walk/let them out. You'll have peace of mind and at least your pets will have the security of being in their own home. read more
