There are dividers for the dog park - so if you have a small dog or bigger dog - you can pick which side you think would be best. The park also features a rock climbing area for kids and a community garden.  You must have a dog to access the dog run area, but there were some comfortable benches outside of the fenced in areas, that offered beautiful views of the landscape if you wanted to just enjoy the nearby scenery. There are also shaded picnic benches nearby - if you plan on enjoying a mellow afternoon here. I talked with some of the dog owners during my brief time at this dog park - and everyone seemed very friendly. If you have a dog and are looking to meet fellow dog owners - I highly suggest you checking out this peaceful dog park. Love taking the pups to this park…read more As mentioned in the other reviews, this park does have 3 separate areas for dogs of all sizes. Large dogs, small dogs and a space to train your dogs. We typically go to all three areas and truly enjoy the spaces. I have two smaller sized dogs and they get so excited coming to the park. Several of the owners are very friendly, clean up after their dogs and seem to also keep coming back. The park does get pretty muddy during rain seasons due to the lack of grass in some areas but overall we let the dogs enjoy it all either way. There are sidewalks for walking along the edges. There are benches to sit on but just be mindful this is where all the dogs lift their legs and do their business. The gates are a little tricky to open but definitely not child proof. Enjoy!

We visited in April, and I could already see that the trees will provide some nice shade in the summer, making it a great spot year-round. Of course we all get a little distracted petting others adorable dogs when there so someone it goes unnoticed when a dog drops something. Also the regulars will inform you of what dogs to watch out for that don't listen or that are very high energy and at times unmanageable. We appreciate that!

The park itself is in a nice residential location so there is very little vehicle or pedestrian traffic. It is always peaceful and quiet when I have visited with the exception of laughter if there happen to be children on the playground, but who doesn't enjoy that happy noise? It is very well kept up with green grass and clean bathrooms and the dog park section is adorable and always maintained. It has a big and small dog area and a paved path for dog parents to get their steps in while there pups play. There are also a few benches to rest on and some exercise equipment for Fido. Hands down one of the best places to take your dog in the area. Can't wait for our next visit.

Another great day at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. I was first into park besides those there for…read morecamping. Clean restrooms, clean trails, impeccable grounds and views, ample parking for me but when I was done hiking the spaces were full. Hiked to the viewpoint then walked the numbered trees loop. Saw bear, dear and likely raccoon tracks. Plus saw proof that "yes" a bear does poop in the woods. Lots of woodpeckers, chipmunks, ground squirrels, jays and junco birds, The trees are so large, incredible sequoias. Many of the huge downed trees have been preserved, propped up and or fenced. I hiked about 4 miles. It was a great day.
