1/18/20 - I let my 16 year old take control of the wheel and we ended up in Jackson. We accidentally stumbled upon Kennedy Tailing Wheels Park (aka the Kennedy Gold Mine from the 1850s). It has a nice view of an old dam and this gigantic wheel. Very cute and clean parK.

GREAT PARK FOR BOTH HUMANS AND DOGS! My mom and I were visiting from the Bay Area and wanted a place to have lunch. We drove by this little gem and am glad we decided to stop. There are 4 trailing wheels (we only visited #3 and #4) which you can drive up in our car in or hike up. The hike is not too strenuous or long (my elderly disabled mom was able to walk it up) and you can either go on the paved road or well marked road that are little rocks but very safe. The park is also very clean, provides water fountains and very comfortable bathrooms. We had also gone crazy trying to find the dog park that other Yelpers had identified in other posts, but it turned out to be here! It's slightly hidden behind bathrooms and you won't see it from road but it's here! It's not separated into small/big dog parks, just one big one but it has ample shade and drinking water/dish for doggies. I was here for a total of 4 hours and 2 sets of dogs came in to play. Owners and dogs were really friendly and I will definitely be coming back next time we're in Jackson. :)

Great dog park and had a beautiful view at the top of the hill. However it seems like nobody knows about it.

There are dividers for the dog park - so if you have a small dog or bigger dog - you can pick which side you think would be best. The park also features a rock climbing area for kids and a community garden.  You must have a dog to access the dog run area, but there were some comfortable benches outside of the fenced in areas, that offered beautiful views of the landscape if you wanted to just enjoy the nearby scenery. There are also shaded picnic benches nearby - if you plan on enjoying a mellow afternoon here. I talked with some of the dog owners during my brief time at this dog park - and everyone seemed very friendly. If you have a dog and are looking to meet fellow dog owners - I highly suggest you checking out this peaceful dog park. If are you are looking to test out your green thumb - you can also apply to be part of the Sonora Rotary community garden here - http://nebula.wsimg.com/244db779a6a0f5fbedbb56c7570ecdb1?AccessKeyId=CEDA253B1864EADD0AB2&disposition=0&alloworigin=1 . I guess January is the most awesome time to visit. Whether was nice and warm, with snow play still available in the parking lot and on the trails. Perfect day to be outdoor. -Park is very well kept and accessible for all. The North Cove Trail was a walk in the pak with stunning display of different trees. Look carefully, wild mushroom has been inoculated and is ready for their debuted. -Visitor center and ranger were very informative. -Pro tip: if your family is the outdoorsy type, buy a California State Park Pass - include entrance to this place and you can skip the line when visiting on a busy weekend....

Points of interest…read moreinclude a large tree stump which is large enough to be a little stage, fallen ancient giants, humongous exposed roots, hollowed out tree stumps which kids can walk through etc. Apparently the people who took care of the park previously cut out a hollow in one of the trees as a point of attraction for cars and people to walk through to compete with other such parks. The tree finally gave away and fell during a heavy rain a few years ago. We took the north grove trail, with kids and toddlers it took us about an hour with several photo stops. There is no elevation so it was an easy stroll. There is no signal in the park. But since it's a single loop, there is no possibility of getting lost.
