I walked in armed with my 64 ounce growler. The inside of the brewery was really nice and organized well. As I walked in I could see all their beer taps. I asked for a taster of their Amnesia IPA. I loved the hoppy flavor so I had them fill up my growler. They were bottling beer when I was there and it was cool to watch. I bought a shirt while they were filling up my beer. The employee was friendly and I even payed the brewery a return visit when I was heading home on Sunday. I look forward to many return visits.

The day we went was surprisingly busy because of course it was their 20th anniversary celebrations and we had no idea! Even with it being incredibly busy things came out quickly! I got to try a peach slushy margarita thingy (I forget the cute name) and that was delicious and refreshing! All the food was delicious and well made! My husband really enjoyed the burger and commented how much he liked the meat mix. The server was a delight, and all around it was a good choice to stop by! Luckily I was able to buy ice cream, marshmallows and campfire forks to toast them. They also had firewood if you needed it and some lighter fuel to help speed things along. The cashier Dorla was sweet and friendly. They had little knickknacks at the checkout counter like postcards, coloring pencils that had the forest feeling. I was most excited about the small mason jars of jam. I bought an elderberry one to bring home with me after our trip and it is delicious. For $10 it was a nice memento, just be mindful of the small bits of umbel (stems) that are in the jam.

Look no further than Rob Buhler! My son wanted to learn to fly fish for his birthday and I hadn't picked up a rod for 20 years. Rob gave us a fantastic, practical four hour lesson on the river. He took his time teaching fundamentals and made every cast fun. Rob was incredibly knowledgeable about the river, fish, fauna, and the geological history of the area. In addition, he was huge on safety and environmental protection which was a massive positive. Don't think twice about asking for Rob the next time you're in the Kernville area and need a pro. He was so committed to the craft and gave off the vibe of the cool uncle everyone wants to have around. A real gift to the area and we're so glad the shop has folks like him on staff.

Guy's 2-Day Nymphing Clinic. December 2025 I went to the Kern River to spend the weekend fly…read morefishing. My first stop was to the Kern River Fly Shop to get some advice about flies and pick up a few that were working at that time and for the area I intended to fish. While in the shop I opted to sign up for the mailing list to help get reacquainted with the sport. Twenty plus years ago I considered myself a fair fly fisher. Over the years I spent less and less time on the water so when I visited last December, unsurprisingly, I was seriously out of practice. I spent time practicing my cast but needed help in an area I have always struggled with, nymph fishing. The shop sends out emails about various clinics so I signed up for the two day clinic and it was worth it. Guy started by going over the basics including key knots to set up our nymph leaders then building them for ourselves and before lunch we were out testing them out. After lunch more knowledge shared and more fishing. The class was small, five of us, and I felt he spent time with each us zeroing in on what each of us needed both in the water and out. We all walked away with a booklet he provided with key info including the knots, leaders, entomology of the area, and more. We also were provided the leaders and some other goodies and most importantly for me, a MUCH better understanding of nymph casting techniques, the skills to identify the right fly and an added bonus some great placed to fish on the Kern. Last but surely not least, Guy is really personable. He is easy to get along with, has a great sense of humor and most importantly adept at communicating what he knows. I walked away with a full tool kit of skills and am now considering his surf clinic. I live not far from the beach and had never considered saltwater fly fishing, but I am now. My daughter got addicted to this place on a recent camping trip…read more It all started when my daughter went shopping during the day while most of our group was out risking our lives white water rafting. When we came back I could see something had changed in her. Instantly she starts to tell the group about this coffee spot she found. She started mumbling something about going back. It was her wide open eyes when she spoke that threw up the most curiosity. We agreed to have their coffee the next morning. She was bummed out and continued to bring up that place several more times that night. The next morning we sent a few from our group to go and get coffee for our large group. When they returned my daughter was thrilled. We all tried our different coffees and sampled some of the others and none of them tasted bad, even the caramel one was ok. That's right caramel is not a tasty drink, I said it. I drove by the place and it looked nice and clean but I never stepped in or encountered any employees. I just really enjoyed the coffees I tried but thank goodness I didn't get addicted like my poor daughter.
