My daughter and her fiancé arranged to adopt a dog through Harvest Hills. HH called their…read morereferences, their landlord, and their vet. They were approved to adopt this dog. My daughter's fiancé took the day off of work to be able to make the appt on a Sunday. HH told them that they would recommend this specialty food for the dog, a more expensive kind. My daughter went out and bought the specialty food and all the supplies that they would need. The staff at HH knew that my daughter lived a little further away and assured her that it would be fine to pick up the dog on Sunday. All week, we looked forward to finally meeting this dog, which was apparently the only dog they had that met their needs (good w/cats, quiet etc). On Saturday, HH called to say that the dog had been given to someone else. Needless to say, my daughter is heartbroken. When I reached out to HH they did not sound like they cared at all. When my family got another dog we brought him here for training too, which is just the best way to set a foundation for success with dogs! Tyler is the best trainer and can always work with people to develop the skills they need to have their dogs be well behaved and happy. He is great at finding unique solutions to even the strangest of "problem behaviors." Whenever I know anyone who gets a new canine family member, I always recommend training with Tyler! Tabby is the groomer we see and she so nice! She always discusses what kind of services and haircut my dog will get to make sure it's the best options for him and she understands the look/function I am looking for. She is very patient with my dog and I know I can trust her to take good care of him when I drop him off for grooming! The store is also great, with so many options, and I like the Treats reward program because it does provide more cost savings than many other rewards programs.

This Adoption center is amazing! We had such a great experience with them even though we ended up…read morenot adopting a pup because of compatibility with our senior dog. They were so accommodating, patient, professional and helpful. They allowed us to take a pup home for a "sleepover" to see if he was compatible over time with our senior dog. The pup was so amazing, but was too high energy for our senior dog and very sadly we had to bring him back. The pup was greeted with so much love when we brought him back that we know that he was not "traumatized" or saddened or discouraged by our inability to adopt him. We will be going back to them once we are ready to adopt another dog! Thank you PAWS Staff!

Despite some misconceptions, retired racing greyhounds make fantastic pets. They are kind, gentle and loving animals. MGPS is staffed by a wonderful group of volunteers who treat these hounds with such compassion and are extremely helpful in placing the dogs with the right families. Highly recommend!!

On approval, I got to drive to Augusta to sorta "interview" dogs. Tigger, as I renamed him, chose me. He came up to me and put his head in my lap. The prior 2 dogs were a bit "standoffish." Once the selection was made, I found out that Maine GreyHound maintains responsibility for the dogs from cradle to grave. Had I been sick and could no longer care for the dog, they insist the dog be re-homed by them. They require the dog get a re-exam every 6 mos. They require that the dog never be let loose without a leash or a fenced back yard. They even organize search teams should your dog accidentally get free. As a retired race dog, he was fully house trained and even knew sign language commands! WowI Their Fostering system is second to none! I have never seen such strong stewardship for any other dog breed! Long story short, I had the 6 best years of my life with this beautiful brindle greyhound!

My adoption process a couple months ago went very well. I arrived without any pets, and left with…read moretwo kitties! I walked in without an appointment, a couple hours after opening. There were some people there, either in the main waiting room or walking through the separate pet areas... wasn't too busy. Was greeted by staff behind the counter and I told them I wanted to look at some cats. They have you fill out some paperwork, mainly about what you're looking for and what your home environment is like (senior cat, kittens, other pets at home, kids at home, etc) to help them in finding an appropriate cat for you. You wait for a bit so they can find a staff member to walk through the cattels with you. You get to meet them, and pick some up in some instances. I deliberated because I intended to get a senior cat, but many of them had behavioral or extra medical problems. I ended up getting a disgustingly cute and impossibly smol brother and sister, and they've been wonderful. It may not be the cheapest, depending on which pet you want to take home, but obviously that cost goes into the program and really, can you put a price on a new family member?
