The cabins faced the lake which was breath taking in the morning! It is directly in front of the cabins, so even a morning coffee or a night cap is divine! They have fire pits set up, one with Adirondack chairs and another with a pergola of swings around it overlooking the lake. Kayaks and paddle boats are also free to use. There was a boat also that you can take out but the lake was low so we didn't chance it! Kitchen is beautiful and beds are really comfy! There is NO AIR CONDITIONERS. NO FANS. So if you get hot, have hot flashes or sweat like a pig at night, you can bring a fan or jump in the lake to cool off. We opened windows but still was warm inside. As far as supplies, Skowhegan is an hour away, go there for groceries from a name brand business, Walmart, Hannafords. If you have been to NH, (White Mts area), you will not find the cute little popular breakfast nooks here like you do there even in Jackman (the next town over). You will need to head back toward Skowhegan but only abt 10 mins from the cabins. This place is called The Hawks Nest, see my review! We visited Moxie Falls which is an ideal trip. it takes abt 15 mins to get there from the cabins. WELL WORTH IT! We also rented ATV's and went out on the trails. You can white water raft but not sure which months that includes. We went in Sept and they were still rafting! There are plenty of snow mobile trails as well and scenic places that are amazing! This place is in the WOODS! Expect to travel for miles for quick snacks or drinks, no big gas stations like multiple gas pumps, but there are some mom and pop places, no big grocery stores, just plain woods! There are a few restaurants that looked ok. The Hawks Nest was the best looking, cleanest place that we saw. Mama Bears is in Jackman and we were referred to eat there but after driving by, we felt we should go the other direction. it was quite small and not so attractive. Liz was wonderful and answered every question we had before during our stay. We will be back there and this time bringing all 5 kids! We cant wait!

It had everything we needed to have a perfect, relaxing time away from home. The view of the lake was breathtaking. The kitchen was fully stocked with all the necessary items needed to make any meal you could want. It even included an outdoor charcoal grill to fire up delicious steaks to enjoy while sitting on the porch looking at the lake. The cabin rental offers a canoe/life jackets so you can explore the lake. The cabin is charming with plenty of space and comfort. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed all of the amenities, especially the dock and being able to bring our boat. We spoke often of how much we loved to just leave the cabin and walk a short distance to the dock. The mornings and evenings were spent on the porch listening to the sounds of loons, the gentle surf hitting the shore and the warm breeze rustling the leaves. The listing online is highly accurate and the quality in which the cabin was kept was professional grade. It is definitely on our list of places to return too.

They do not wash the comforters after guests leave, and I don't believe they do any cleaning to the cabins after guests leave. The guests are required to clean the cabin upon departure, or get charged $250 for cleaning services. Your paying between $2000 to $5000 for a week to stay here. The cabin I was in had cobwebs. The dishes were not cleaned, forks and spoons still had food on them. An animal was under my bed 2 nights in a row. Now my family was willing to over look these things because the lake is phenomenal, but Tomhegan blacklisted my Uncle for complaining of bed bugs in the Lodge. My family can still rent from them but we won't be. If a company is going to charge you thousands to stay for the week, you'd expect them to take a bed bug infestation seriously.

So when Boyfriend suggested venturing to Maine for a vacation getaway, I prepared for the worst. Luckily, I ended up with the best in Tomhegan. Situated on the pristine and pine-lined shore of Moosehead Lake and a quick jaunt from the Canadian border, Tomhegan is definitely remote. No phone, no television, no internet--and it's wonderful. This is the perfect spot for an escape with someone special or an annual excursion with your extended family. We stayed three nights in Diana, which was the original cabin at Tomhegan dating back to the early 1900s. I was incredibly impressed with the comfort and cozy style of our abode! Two picnic tables, colorful Adirondack chairs, and a two-tiered deck with a covered porch welcomed us when we arrived. If there's such a thing as backwoods cabin chic, the inside of Diana is it. True log structure, trophy game and vintage snow gear decorating the walls, an iron wood burning stove, and even a claw foot tub made it feed like home. Additionally, the fully-furnished kitchen made cooking each night a breeze. About 30 yards from our doorstep and nestled on the shoreline was our own private fire pit, stocked with wood and ready for massive s'more production. While Diana was perfect for the two of us, it could comfortably sleep up to eight. All for around $150 a night in mid-June! A steal, if you ask me. The grounds at Tomhegan are equally stunning. Like, if eight-year-old me was going to draw a picture of nature from her imagination, Tomhegan is what you'd get. Baby animals frolicking at your feet, a crystal-clear lake glistening in the sunshine during the day, and the entire Milky Way at your fingertips in the evening. Simply gorgeous. A few additional tips for the nature-bound: -The nearest grocery is about 55 minutes south in the small town of Greenville, Maine. While there's a small camp store on-site, you'll want to stock up here before heading north. -Leave your Mini Cooper at home, To access Tomhegan, first drive down a narrow country road. Then turn onto a gravel road. Then turn onto a dirt road. Then drive through the forest and over a one-lane wooden bridge while watching out the window for moose. Don't turn around, you're almost there. -Fishermen, rejoice. Boyfriend was catching brook trout like buttah from a nearby inlet as well as from the shoreline by our fire pit. -Check out Tomhegan's Facebook page for additional photos that aren't posted on the website. True Maine hospitality. They are the new owners, and they are doing it right. The cabins are simple and very clean. With all the nesessities for cooking, and a HOT shower. Also the screened in porch is overlooking the pond.. Stunning. They are located on the pond with a private deck for relaxing, reading, swimming. You can rent a canoe or kayak and paddle away. Its very quiet and serene. You might even come across some loons.

The cottage was immaculate and was very comfortable. The owners were wonderful as well as other guests we met. Joe, one of the owners showed me the pet walking area and it was very clean and well kept. Each cottage has either a gas or charcoal grill to use. Depending on which cottage you stay in, you have either propane or a wood pellet stove for heat if needed. If you kayak or canoe, access to Moosehead Lake is just feet from your cottage. Both Misty and Joe made our dog Hank feel loved. FYI The cottage was well equipped with dishes, mugs, utensils, and kitchen gear.

It smelt like gas , so we told the owner and she found that the gas stove hook up was leaking . She said it was ok to use the stove just disconnect the gas line when done ! OMG are you kidding me! The furniture sent so bad I couldn't sit on it . I had to get my microwave out of storage because the one in the cabin was so GROSS I put on the front porch. We didn't have hot water for several days in the shower either . Already having jobs here in maine it was quite important to take showers . We stayed in both her cabins because the house we were buying fell through on the day of closing , we had sold our house in Connecticut 2 days prior to moving to maine . We were looking for a permanent place to live and finally found a home to rent in Hermon , but had already paid for an extra two weeks. Thinking she would refund us the extra 2 weeks we paid considering the small cabin had so many issues I thought nothing of it . But she didn't, so I contacted her after we finally found a new home we bought . Thinking instead of her giving us a refund she could let my daughter and girls stay in her cabin so they could visit me . At first she said yeah sure , then realizing it was Labor Day weekend she said she wanted my girls to pay FULL price for the cabin. WTH she has $750 dollars of mine and refused to refund it and then wouldn't make it up for a lousy weekend so my kids and grandkids could visit . I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL ! If you would like an honest caring place to rent go further north . They a MUCH better and the people understand that things are expensive and will give you a refund if you have issues.
