I'm not 100% sure how I stumbled upon the Ironclad Inn, but I'm so glad I did. We visited on a Friday evening and the tasting room downstairs was busy... not a single seat at the bar. The room has a few tables and couches with tables for a more relaxed environment. Given the weather was perfect for a fall evening, we sat outside in a patio area. There are a few cocktail options (mocktails, too!) and small bites to nibble one. We shared the burger (Royale with Cheese) and hot dog (Beefy Cheesy)... both were juicy and had great flavor. We're also had the octopus, though it was a bit tough as it had seemingly been overcooked. Overall, the bites were great and I like that we could have cocktails in a relaxed environment. The tasting room had a small gift shop of sorts at the entrance, where they sell the bourbon they use in cocktails and other liquor. read more

I stayed here while in town for a wedding, and I miss this place every day since. The house is beautiful and welcoming the second you walk in. Check-in and checkout are super quick and easy. I booked my room months in advance for the wedding because I fell in love with the Ville de Frejus room and its French decor and vibes. Didn't want to lose it, so I booked right away. I traveled alone, and it was a perfect place to be/stay. It had a decent-sized bathroom and a queen-sized bed. I'm still obsessed with the blue and white pillows on the bed. I need to find some for myself. Included with your stay is a chef-made breakfast, which was divine. They have a small menu, but everything looks so good. It's simple and perfect. One day I got the quiche of the day, and the second day was a traditional breakfast. All rooms are upstairs, so prepare to carry your suitcase up. I only had a carry-on, so it was easy for me. My stay was peaceful and quiet, and I didn't have any issues with any other guest being too loud at any point. Since I was going to be at wedding festivities two nights in a row super late, I was worried about getting back into the house. Super easy set up for so. The doors get locked at 6 as the staff leaves for the night. There is a side entrance you can use to go in and out, with a keypad and a code provided at check-in. So even though I arrived at midnight, I was able to get in safely and reach my room. Loved this Inn and will definitely stay here again if I am in town. It's also walking distance to everything I went to the whole weekend. As well as the main area with all the shops and restaurants. Parking is street only, but I didn't have any issues. We visited the tasting room and had a great time. Our server was new but was delightful. They have a beautiful old bar that had several people sitting around. They also have a very nice and private courtyard, but it was a little too hot and muggy for us. The seating area inside is very nice with couches and seating areas. We did a bourbon flight and also had a cocktail. Note: they only are allowed to serve you 3 ounces per ABC laws so unfortunately, even with a designated driver you are limited on the cocktails. We did enjoy some food and found that everything we tried was delicious. We would definitely visit again. read more

We are locals here and have started going here every week or so for the tasting room downstairs. Racing thr Inn, to the left side, you will find steps that lead you down to the tasting room. The food here is phenomenal and the cocktails are the best in town. We brought our grown kids with us and shared every food and cocktail item on the menu. It was so fun sampling everything on the menu. Everything was delicious. The ambiance is equally wonderful. You can sit at the bar or go back in the back room where there are big, soft, comfy sofas and chairs. Sometimes the patio is open and we've been able to enjoy the experience in the evening open air. I absolutely love this place. I must also mention the service is excellent. The staff can give you some of the history of the property and also the Ironclad Distillery folks out of Newport News that are now running it. This place feels like a place to go to celebrate special occasions or where you can go with your significant other a group of friends to eat and catch up. There is a mellow, up-scale historic feel about it. I'm selfishly reluctant to post how good this place is because I am afraid everyone else will find it and when I go, it will start to become crowded. I never came here when it was the Kenmore Inn but am glad we found it now. I also look forward to staying at the upstairs bed and breakfast here soon. This place is a Fredericksburg gem. read more

This was our first bed and breakfast stay and it was good. Very reasonably priced and clean. Cooked to order breakfast was excellent. Beautiful common areas and excellent climate control and hot/cold water. The room we were in faced the street and had single-pane windows. Traffic noise was a bit loud one night. Wish we'd had brought a white noise machine. There are some things about an old, historic building that took some getting used to. It was like staying at your grandmother's house. Very intimate and personal (not sterile, like a modern hotel). Just odd things like where outlets are placed, lighting controls ... things like that. These are not bad, just different. read more

This review is for the Pub at Kenmore Inn, we did not stay at the Inn and cannot speak to the quality of the rooms there. My family stopped for dinner at the Kenmore Inn after a long day driving home from Virginia Beach. Everyone was exhausted and we really just wanted a quick tasty meal so we could get home and sleep. Unfortunately, if you're looking for quick this is not the place. We ordered two of the cheese burger and one grilled chicken sandwich and then had to wait nearly half an hour while they were being prepared. Burgers and grilled chicken just aren't that hard to make in my opinion, but maybe it would be worth the wait... unfortunately again, not so. The buns on all the sandwiches were literally so hard they could be used as hockey pucks! Removing the buns, sadly also removed most of the cheese on the cheeseburgers because they apparently melted it onto the bun instead of the burger. Weird. What was left was an anemic lettuce leaf and two small rings of tomatoes. The "bacon jam" advertised in the description turned out to be a lot of onions or maybe shallots with a little bacon flavoring. Not bad, but far from the bacon jam that was advertised. Other than that, there was no sauce of any kind to moisten those dry hard buns. My side salad was the best part of my meal with a nice assortment of salad greens, tomatoes, cucumber, onions and a light vinaigrette. The kids were much less satisfied with their homemade potato chips as sides. I taste tested one, and immediately wished I hadn't. The consistency and flavor both reminded me of cardboard. There was no crispness and no flavor. The service was indifferent. The waitress was friendly but disappeared for long stretches, including when we requested the bill to pay. Probably the nicest part of the experience was the atmosphere, a cross between speakeasy and pub with brick walls and old time decor, quite charming. Not nice enough to warrant a second visit however. If you're looking for burgers or basic sandwiches I would recommend a chain like TGIFridays or Ruby Tuesday over this place, and I am NOT a fan of chain restaurants. But given the $14 price on the burgers I expected a whole lot better than what we got. I'm giving two stars for atmosphere and a nice salad, rounding up from the 1.5 it really deserves. read more

We had the perfect stay at this B&B! This cute little inn, is located about .3miles off the main strip! The room was just as it was in the pictures. The bed was very comfortable. The only complaint I have is that there was no ceiling fan, so there was no air movement in the room. Breakfast is served in the most charming little room with such a sweet hostess. She made my experience. I would absolute recommend staying here. 5/5! read more

Kenmore Inn (Restaurant) Tries so hard, but... The Kenmore Inn Bed and Breakfast also has a restaurant that is open on the weekends for lunch and dinner. The restaurant is quaintly located in the basement of the Inn with an attached garden. When you first enter it appears to be quite small, but there is an additional dining area in the rear. At first glance this appears to be fine dining, but then the cracks in the façade appear. The drop ceiling & concrete floor clash with the white tablecloths and the 70's pop music playing a bit too loudly in the background. We arrived at 6:30 and our name was on the table (quite a nice touch), unfortunately it took 15 minutes for our server to come to the table. Quite frankly they appeared to be understaffed by at least two servers. It took another 10 minutes for our drink order to arrive and then another 40 minutes for our meals to get to the table. Additionally, the server brought us the wrong meals and forgot to bring our second round of drinks... the server did comp our first round for the mistake. At this point I was less than thrilled with the place and thought of leaving. Here is the good part, the meal was very good. My wife had the Center Cut Pork Chop and it was cooked to perfection. I had the Canadian Angus Beef (CAB) Burger and it was grand. The only issues with the meal were the sides, they were a bit bland. Again, let me stress the main part of the dish was fantastic. This contrast leaves me conflicted; the wait time and order mix-up cause me to want to give them a bad review. On the other hand, the meal was very good. Due to this, I will split the difference and give them an A-OK (three stars). If you have the time and patience, the Inn's restaurant is worth a visit. Had the honor of having our dream wedding at the Kenmore Inn / Ironclad Inn on May 11th. It turned out to be an absolutely beautiful wedding and made for some amazing memories. That being said, our experience with the new owners, was less than desirable. For some backstory, our venue contract (use of the entire Inn) was gifted to us by the general manager and former owner of the Kenmore Inn prior to the sale of the Inn. During the time leading up to the sale of the Inn, wedding planning had ensued and plans were made, paid for, etc. to various vendors with the impression that we would have use of the entire inn, as per our contract. At the changing of hands, we were assured that since the new owners had purchased the Inn, our contract was included, and our wedding would proceed as scheduled in accordance with the contract. However, every step of the way leading up to the wedding, the new owners made the wedding process a nightmare, more of a wedding planning headache than necessary. Of course, we knew with new ownership came changes and modifications to the venue and we would have to roll with the punches. We watched as the new owners brought in large amounts of furniture into what would be the ceremony / dance floor space, a full merchandise and seating area in what was going to be the photo-booth area, etc. all major stressors in the late stages of wedding planning. With much back and forth, the owners finally agreed to move the furniture out for the wedding, but it would not be scheduled to be moved out until the morning of the wedding, fine. Fast forward to the morning of the wedding, the furniture movers had arrived and we were able to breathe thinking that everything was going to be cleared out for the wedding, we were wrong. Come 12:30 pm, we noticed people that were NOT part of/ guests of our wedding entering the downstairs of the Inn. Turns out, the owners had decided to open the Tasting room downstairs, despite the fact that the general manager had requested against it as it would affect set up for the wedding and we were told everything including the merchandise would be out by 10am that morning. Our day of coordinator, went down around 2:15pm to determine when they would be closing and clearing out so that we could set up and was told by one of the bar staff that the owner was out to lunch but they were scheduled to be open until 4pm (the ceremony was set to start at 4:30 pm). We were livid. The coordinator again went down and waited to speak with the owner who rudely stated that she was simply doing my now husband a favor (letting us have our wedding there) and that they would be closing soon and to give them another 20 minutes or so. After 20 minutes, the coordinator again went downstairs where people had just gotten served another round and it seemed that last call had not yet been given, to which the owner again said it'll be another 20 minutes. At this point we were told the photo-booth vendor had arrived and was unable to set up as the tasting room was occupying the space needed. I was furious and my father and bridesmaid decided to go downstairs and talk to the owner, who once again was rude and made it a point to say that it was all just a favor to my husband (despite us having a contract) and that it would still be a few more minutes. Finally around ~3:15pm all of the tasting room guests were out and the vendors scrambled to get merchandise and furniture moved and stuff set up for the wedding. There was no way that it would have all been done in time had they closed at 4pm as was originally intended. Finally, the wedding! Yay! - the ceremony went smoothly, cocktail hour was great, bridal party got photos done with a few interruptions by various Ironclad guests asking if the tasting room was open or closed. Reception went well. A few of our guests made comments to us that the owner had been glaring at our guests during the party time and made them uncomfortable. Overall, the actual wedding was better than we could have ever imagined thanks to the amazing family, friends, and vendors that we selected to help us celebrate our big day. The Kenmore Inn will always hold a special place in our heart and we appreciate all that the Inn staff did to make our day go as smooth as possible. But after everything, the Kenmore Inn (under the new ownership) would not be my recommendation to another bride. I'm not sure if it was just that our contract was a gift that made the owners treat our wedding as less important or what; but it definitely made us lose respect for the new owners and their company. read more

Let's just say that if you don't want to be eating late then don't go here. We ordered at 7:30 and didn't get our food until 8:55. They had another event going on and used that as an excuse for it taking 1 hour and 30 minutes. The waiter was nice and I know it isn't her fault because it's the kitchens but it is inexcusable. After waiting so long one of the orders was wrong so they had to wait even longer. The kitchen needs to get faster or the place should be shut down when they have events because they clearly cannot handle it. Edit:I'll update to 2 stars because the bar tender did comp some of the meal and offered dessert for free. As stated, this is a management is, not a staff issue. My #1 restaurant in Fredericksburg. I lived in this city for 3 years and this place is by far the best wining and dining experience you will find! It's a quaint restaurant attached to a historic bed and breakfast. The ambience is picturesque. You feel like you're in classy, old colonial Virginia. They have a sweet outside garden area with seating in the warmer months that is always accented with pretty white string lights above year round. I went here for my birthday one year and it was seriously one of my best birthday dinners of all time. They say me and my boyfriend right next to the window so we had a lovely view of the garden. They had a sommelier come to our table to help us select our wine, which we thought might cost us a ton of money, but he helped us for no extra charge and the bottle of carmenere Chilean red wine we chose )with tour knowing the price!) was only about $30 and was phenomena and paired perfectly with our steaks. If you go, you MUST get the crab dip! It's seriously the best crab dip I have ever had and I great up going to the Atlantic Ocean every year and haven't found a place to top the Kenmore Inn! The dip is so creamy with luxurious amounts of lump crab and just the right amount of melty, cheesy, gooeyness - you gotta get the biggest size, it's just too good! For dinner, my filet mignon was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. For desert we had a nice creme brule which was lovely to cap off the evening. We actually got stuck in the rain when attempting to leave so chose to stay later and have another glass of wine at the bar. The bar, like the main restaurant are all downstairs and so cute and cozy, it really feels like going back in time to the 1800's with how historic and homey this place is. People also get married at this venue which I think is fabulous for events since it's a bed and breakfast. I can't wait to return someday when I am back to visit. Get. That. Crab. Dip. No channel guide to TV, VERY limited electrical outlets (this is 2019, after all), annoying/LOUD music from bar directly under our room until 10 pm, and they replaced very comfortable chair in room with uncomfortable chair. We had the worst Thanksgiving meal ever. SLOW service, lukewarm and mediocre food, with a hefty pricetag. We arrived at 12:50 for a 1 p.m. reservation and pleasantly surprised to be seated immediately. That was the one and only pleasant thing about the meal -- besides the company. We sat at the table for 15 minutes before being approached by our server. She asked we wanted anything to drink. But we didn't have drink menus. So, I responded, "Yes! What are you offering?" She instructed is to see the menu for our options. When she realized that we didn't have any, she departed and returned with one drink menu for the three of us to share. She gave us time to look it over -- about another 10 minutes. We ordered drinks and our entire meal. The drinks took a while -- at least 10 minutes for the two we ordered. (Note: It was a limited menu. We just ordered a couple of the signature mimosas.) We had been at our table for an hour and 15 minutes before we got our first course -- which was cheese and salad, nothing that required cooking! (Note: I am a vegan, so my salad was ordered without bacon or cheese.) It took about another half-hour before our dinner course arrived. No special orders, as there was a vegan option on the menu. So, no good reason for the slow service. When our plates arrived, the food was lukewarm. The final course came along -- after another long wait. They served cold bread pudding, without the advertised creme anglaise. They served a cold apple stuffed with cheese. And, the vegan dessert, which they emphatically instructed is to order when we arrived, was a bowl of berries. It took two-and-a-half hours to compose a bowl of naked blueberries, blackberries and unripened strawberries. They didn't even dust them with sugar. Unfortunately, we weren't the only ones to experience such poor service. The other tables within view also waited interminably long. And the server's habit of hiding between courses only made it worse. It's unclear who the manager was. Maybe he/she was cooking -- as the kitchen was seriously in disarray, it seemed. But there was no leadership in the dining room. No aperitif offered as a consolation for the poor service. Indeed, the 20 percent gratuity was automatically added to the bill. About that bill . . . Not only did we have to request it twice, it was overpriced for the quality of the food. Service aside, the dishes were poorly executed and not well seasoned. On top of that, the entrees we're not hot. (Could they possibly have been sitting out waiting to be served? One hopes not as there seemed to be an ample number of servers and a lot of busers/runners.) This was my first -- and last -- time at the Kenmore Inn. But my mother had a similarly bad experience there during restaurant week. (She tried it again because she gave them the benefit of the doubt.) Our next holiday meal will be at the Confident Rabbit. We went there for Mother's Day and had a great meal. Lesson learned. read more

I made reservations for Valentine's Day. We were seated at 815pm and bread was brought to the table at 9:00pm. Our meal followed around 930pm. At this point we would have left, but it was Valentine's Day. We ordered the filet medium. When it arrived it was very well done and hard to chew. They had no steak knives, not that you should need one for a filet, but it honestly was like a chewy roast. The carrots that came with the dish hadn't been cooked and were very hard. For dessert we ordered the chocolate cake. I promise we are not difficult people, but there is no mistaking Betty Crocker brownie mix. I grew up on the stuff! The couple beside us had sent their steaks back twice and had caused a bit of a scene. It was Valentine's Day and we enjoyed our wine so I chose not to complain. I think it's safe to say the place simply struggles. The meal came to $140 for the two of us. It simply wasn't even close to that quality. Honestly, it didn't reach Texas Roadhouse quality. The house was very pretty and made for a nice atmosphere. I would suggest maybe getting a drink in the bar sometime if you're visiting, but would say with everything in me, stay away from the restaurant. read more

My wife and I decided to stay in our home town for a B&B overnight to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary and we were quite pleasantly surprised at how the inn surpassed our expectations from the beautiful rooms to the tasty dinner menu and the most gracious and wonderful staff. Truly a delight in every way. If you're seeing a relaxing night in an historic yet comfortable inn with great food and caring staff, this is it. I called the business after our recent stay on Labor Day weekend for our anniversary, and while Susan was sympathetic and offered us a free night in a suite, which I turned down, she said she would get back to me after talking to the owners. I didn't get a call back. We arrived and loved the front porch and entryway. This was the nicest part of the historic inn. Spent some relaxing time reading out front. Location is excellent and walking distance to many sites and restaurants, plus they have a restaurant there. That's where the positive stops... We were ushered to our room but given no instructions on how anything worked. The air condition was stuck on about 65 degrees. My engineer husband spent about 20 minutes trying to work the control but gave up. I went down to the front desk to get assistance but she couldn't figure it out either. Had to make a second trip down to see her after our neighbors returned in the afternoon. Turns out several rooms were occupied by guests at a wedding...the TV was blasting, and it was like they were having their conversation in our room! We asked the front desk about this, she said the walls were paper thin, and it seemed this was a common complaint and she would ask them to be quieter. We headed out for a nice dinner, hoping to return to our comfy bed and clean room. Before dressing though, we wanted to shower. That's when we saw the huge rust stain that went from the spout to the drain. The rooms were quaint and not modern, that's not why you stay in a B&B, but this was pretty gross. Plus, the toilet was placed in a way that I couldn't even sit down straight because my knees hit the tub (I'm 5'5") so you had to sit sideways to use the toilet. Two of the three light bulbs in the center light were out. We grinned and tried to make due, at least sleeping in a cold room, we could snuggle. Then our neighbors returned from their wedding. I'm not sure when, but they definitely woke us up. The following day, breakfast was good, nothing fabulous but it took almost 30 minutes to get it. Susan was gracious and served the meal plus coffee and fresh juice. We headed out for a new day, but decided to turn the air condition unit off. Our neighbors checked out so we were thrilled. WRONG. That evening a family moved in, we're talking an infant that cried before dinner and at least 3-4 times during the night. Who comes to a romantic B&B with an infant?! Thank god they woke us at 630am and left their room around 7am so we could hang out in peace for a bit before getting up. This inn needs to inventory their 9 rooms, repair the simple items that should be in working order. Have the fixtures in decent shape and not allow guests who don't get the rules of basic courtesy to their fellow travelers. If you want a place to sleep, head to a hotel and leave the B&Bs to those who are looking for a different experience. read more

I wish I could give two reviews, one for the food, which was great and one for the service which was abysmal. A waitress who disappeared after the main course was served, an hour wait for dessert and another 45 minute wait for the check. Add to that, the waitress had to auction off the food (who had the steak, who had the Mahi), and having to ask other Falstaff to send our waitress in to order drink refills. The insult to injury? The 20% gratuity added to our checks after all of this and being told they didn't "know how" to change it when I protested. But wait, there's more. When we complained to the "manager" all she said was "okay". Not even an "I'm sorry". I would love to go back for the food, but there is no way I would give this place any more of my hard earned money. For a place like this, I expected so much more. We were strolling down Princess Anne Street on a dusky and romantic Saturday night. We both stopped in our tracks. A most amazing light fragrance wafted to our noses. We took two steps forward and it was gone. A step back and it was there. We looked around and noticed that we were standing in front of the side garden of Kenmore Inn. As this was still pretty much the dead of winter, nothing was in bloom! What could that intoxicating scent be? We started walking around the garden, smelling every cut branch and moderately green plant we could find. Still couldn't locate the source. We started tromping through the garden like a pack of deranged elephants...still nothing. Finally, my husband looked up at the welcoming porch of Kenmore Inn, and said, "I'm going in. I *must* find out what plant that is!" Sheepishly, we walk in, our faces red; his from embarrassment, mine from suppressed laughter. We shyly stood in the beautiful old foyer, when a staff member comes out to ask if she could help us. "Yes," my husband started, turning redder if at all possible, "I have a strange question to ask you. We were just walking by your garden..." "Ah yes," the lady cheerfully cut him off, "I designed that garden myself, and it's meant for people to take pictures in," she assured him, spying his camera hanging limply from his hand. "Oh! Thank you! That's actually very good to know, but that wasn't my question. Had a different question. You see, we noticed in your garden..." "Ah, yes, my crushed shell walkway! You want to know where I got the shells?" "Um, no, although that too would be very good to know," my husband said, his face turning even redder, as I was bent double with laughter and gasping for air, "no, our question is this - we walked by an smelled a plant that was so amazing, but we can't seem to find..." "Ah yes," the lady happily nodded, glad to have finally gotten to the root of our question, "isn't it amazing? People ask about that all the time. It's an 'alba winter dafine'." As she lead us around to the side door, to show us the plant (which was about 20 feet from where we had been standing), she had her assistant write down the name of the plant for us on a sheet of paper. So sweet and kind and nice! She also took the opportunity to let us know about the dining room and handed us a menu - but there really is no need, because I already know that the next time I'm coming to Fredericksburg, I'm going to be spending the night at this bed and breakfast...hopefully in a room with a window that overlooks this garden and amazing, fragrant plant. read more

The historical elegance promised by the Kenmore Inn is actually a dump! The website is very misleading. Do not stay here! This is by far the worst hotel or bed-and-breakfast that I have ever stayed at. I stayed here for one night in November 2014. Our tub was so rusty it could not be used. The shower head was very rusty too. The toilet was not clean and just gross. Our sink was so stopped up you could not even brush your teeth because it would over flow. Two male employees were in a big altercation yelling and cursing at each other. The situation was not under control so we left the Inn for several hours. We reserved a king size bed and got two twin size beds pushed together. It was extremely uncomfortable to sleep on a crack and not what we reserved. Our tv was smaller than a computer screen. Why bother! The Inn's pipes were so loud that there was no getting any sleep! It sounded like someone taking a hammer and beating on the pipes all night. Terrible!! There is no R and R at this place. We were up all night and felt like zombies the next morning. We stayed for one night and paid $172.52. I would not come back even if it was free. There was no manager there to talk to. Customer service was nonexistent. I want my money back. Oh and regarding the restaurant, we chose not to eat dinner there because of the employees fighting. However, Later that night we went to the restaurant for wine and dessert. The wine was ok- middle of the road at best. I ordered a brownie. It tasted like a $1.00 box mix dessert. It had a scoop of cherry ice cream on top that was good. The dinners people ordered sitting near our table did not look like what was presented on the website. People were complaining about their food. If staying in the area, I would recommend staying elsewhere and dining at Kybecca. read more

Since coming to the Kenmore Inn last year, the General Manager, Nancy, seems to have run off the lovely wedding coordinator, at least one chef and my fiancé and I. We loved the Inn's location and charm, but could not stand her deep negativity about the Kenmore's floor plan, décor and ability to host a wedding. Aside from badmouthing the Kenmore Inn, the General Manager told us that we would have to sign a written statement to hold our 100-person wedding there, even though the website said the Inn can accommodate 125 people. Even worse than having to convince her that we loved the Inn, she asked for three weeks to get us a proposal, which never came. I'm still not sure whether it was our age, appearance or whether she just didn't like us, but she wouldn't even draw up a proposal. When we called to speak with the owner, the GM refused his name, number or even a return call. As the service continues to slide, hopefully the owner will realize that she's running the Kenmore Inn straight into the ground. read more

Great place. Nice place for a wedding reception (not that I'd know), great place for a beer (apparently ranked as the best quality Guinness in town, even with all the Irish pubs around). Good cocktails, comfy place. Probably a good place to stay as a bed and breakfast, but i don't know for sure. Now, the surprising thing. I've gone to every nice restaurant in Fredericksburg and this is the most surprisingly good place. You expect that out of Le Petite or Old Town, but its on the same par as those two places. Great diverse food, made with great ingredients and a clever yet cautious mindset. Great Chilean Sea Bass, Cow Steak, Mac and Cheese; that's right all over the place and its all good. Good wine list too, and theyre very helpful. The service goes in stride with the all over quality. read more

My best friend got married here in fall of 2014 and it was lovely! It was a surprise wedding where guests thought they were just coming to a surprise engagement party but then jokes on them, it's actually a wedding! Jackie was very helpful with everything, especially the menu! At the tasting we didn't love everything so she came up with modified versions of arancini for us, and sliced apples with brie and Varnell wrapped in puff pastry! For the wedding we had heavy hors d'oeuvres being served all night, instead of a plated dinner or buffet, which turned out awesome! I didn't love the seating arrangements outside for the ceremony and how we walked down and had to stand on stairs. Some guests couldn't see the bride because we were blocking them, so that could be improved, i would say. The rooms were nice, a little creaky but still lovely! I wish they weren't so pricey, but it is a historic location so it does make sense. Breakfast was great although i can't remember what i had, and service was wonderful the whole weekend i was there! It has been awhile since I have eaten here. 100% turn around. - the appetizer - an amazingly light and well done calamari with a very nice red sauce. - Salad - nice fresh mixed greens very well dressed with the perfect amount of cheese. Main course - the filet was cooked amazing! The crab cakes were very tasty with very little filler! Everything on the table was well prepared from the above mentioned items to the pasta that was cooked perfectly al Dente. Kudos to Jackie! She has really turned this place around! read more

My husband & I had a very bad experience here! When we were seated we were the second party in the dining room. It took 45 minutes to get any food in front of us. My marquirita was the worst I have ever tasted. The French onion soup tasted like dish water, it looked like it too. Very weak & watery. My entrée' came, but we waited another 15 minutes for my husband's. Finally we had enough, we left without my husband getting any food. The Kenmore Inn is one of 2 or 3 options for lodging within the confines of Downtown Fredericksburg, and is the only place I've ever stayed in the imediate area. The Inn itself is tasteful and stately, while maintaining an inviting and warm feel to it. It's bright and airy, in some rooms, but dark and warm in others. The appointments in the rooms are tasteful and typically bed and breakfasty, and the decanter of sweet brandy was a wonderful touch. MY only complaint with the room was slightly tired paint and peeling ceiling plaster. A weekends worth of work would have made this room feel much updated and top tier. Unfortunately, this detail really did take away from teh room and made the room feel tired and a bit run down, while still 'nice'. Sorta like sleeping over at grandma's house- but there's no excuse for the stewards of the place. This is a business, not a distant relative's aging plantation. Unfortunately, our breakfast was missing. Due to a fire code issue with their alarm system, their kitchen had unexpectedly been closed just as we had arrived. This has since been remedied, but because of this we were not able to have breakfast at the Inn. Instead we were served pastries and fruit in place of a hot meal. I won't fault them for this though, it was beyond their control as the alarm failure was due to renovations taking place in one of the rooms. One of the best features of the Kenmore, is the nightlife provided by the bar and restaruant downstairs. It's casual yet tastefully simple decor was complemented well by a friendly if not granola-ey crowd enjoying the live music (which was very good, by the way) while enjoying a drink from the basement bar. The outdoor patio is ncie as well, although we didn't sit outside due to the Virginia heat and humidity. Overall, I'd recommend the Kenmore in for a night or two for a couple, but if you're in town on business or a longer stay, I'd unfortunately have to recommend checking out the new Courtyard Marriot downtown. Their priced reasonably close, and while the chain hotel may not offer the warmth the kenmore does, it does have some fo the creature comforts you'd desire for a longer stay. read more

This adorable inn adjoins the historic district of Fredericksburg, VA, and is very close to downtown. Many places are within walking distance of the inn, and sidewalks make any walk a pleasure. The gardens of this inn are enough to make it worth the stay. But add to that the charming rooms and ambiance and your stay becomes extraordinarily special. Everyone, like most of the resident of this quaint city, is polite, helpful, and kind. The breakfast is excellent and the porch allows a visitor to rest in a setting that is magical. There are no problems parking. We feel very lucky to have found this welcoming little treasure. read more

My wife and I wanted to do an overnight trip to Fredericksburg, and found the Kenmore Inn online. We specifically wanted to go because of their advertised on-site pub. In order to make sure this would be available, we checked their events calendar to make sure nothing was renting it out. The events calendar said it was clear. When we arrived, we found that a rehearsal dinner party had reserved the pub. That was a huge disappointment to us. Ideally, a staffer would have contacted us to let us know of this unavailability. At the very least, it should have been disclosed on their website at the time we booked (which it was not, as of a few weeks ago). We could have gone to any number of B&Bs, but we chose this one because of the pub. A shame. The disappointment continued with the "breakfast" half of the bed and breakfast. You would normally expect this to be very nice, but we have had better breakfasts at Holiday Inn Expresses. My wife ordered an omelet so small and cookie-cutter it appears to have been slid off a Dunkin Donuts breakfast sandwich. The coffee was served, not generally available, and the cups were very small--we ended up having to get more coffee on the road just to get our fix. Ideally, breakfast would be a large buffet of eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. This was a small bar of cereal, milk, and orange juice--no coffee. They serve you a very small plate of food, and my wife's was an omelet in the same way that McDonalds is a steakhouse. There were some good points, including 1. Location. Right in the heart of downtown F'burg. Easy walking access to bars, restaurants, shops. A good thing, too, considering we had to hunt for dinner after getting there. 2. Building. It's a great 19th century building completely updated and first-rate. 3. Room. Small but very clean. Very 19th century American baroque. Easy shower. 4. Service. I can't give this very high marks because no one seemed to care about our principal beef (the pub being reserved). However, a very nice woman serving us breakfast gave us a bag of coffee after my wife commented on how good it was. On site, the staff was great. read more

Sadly, we had the worst restaurant experience we've had in a long, long time at the Kenmore Inn. First, the restaurant portion- very, very pretty- wasn't open, so we had to eat in the pub, which is musty and smells of mold.. Then, they handed us a menu with only a few items on it. When I mentioned some of the dishes that I saw both on-line AND on the menu at the front of the restaurant, the waiter told me that they just changed their menu and that none of the dishes in which I was interested were available. Very disappointing. Went there for Thanksgiving. Had reservations. Sat for an hour before first course arrived. Only asked us for a drink order one time. Food was ok, but not worth 2.5 hours. Understand it was a holiday, but we didn't just walk in off the street. Lot of grumbling from other tables while we were there also. Did I mention it cost for two with a total of two drinks, $150. I stayed here for my birthday. My boyfriend got the romantic delux package. It's been almost a week and the roses are still in full bloom :) I just opened the belgian chocolates and they're amazing. we had delicious champagne. The inn keepers were very nice and hospitable. We enjoyed some peace and quiet (much needed) from the DC area. The room was quaint and nice. the bathroom had been completely redone! it was so nice and the shower was great. I really wish I could have taken it home with me... the entire bathroom. The dinner in the restaurant below was amazing. It was the best steak I had in years. My boyfriend finished his salmon even before I finished my steak. I ordered a martini and it was the perfect balance of sweet and alcohol.... very good wait staff and bartender! Here's the downside... around 11pm, we were back in our room and a sound came that was as if someone was hammering the pipes. Right before dosing off, I told my bf "I hope this doesn't happen throughout the night" and it happened about every 2 hours until 8am when we were getting ready for breakfast. I know it's an old house, but the pipe noise is so loud it wakes us up, that warrants some attention. Breakfast was amazing! I had healthy egg-white omlettes and keurig coffee and fresh fruit... it came out quickly and the breakfast room was cozy and sunny. perfect for starting the day. So this would have been the perfect the trip if it weren't for those dern pipes... if you're a heavy sleeper, have at it! If you still want to go, just don't stay in room #207. read more

We had our wedding at the kenmore, to include the ceremony. Working with Jacquie and her staff was a fun and enjoyable experience. We even had our dogs in the ceremony. The food and service were top notch. We are both very relaxed and laid back and wanted the same type of atmosphere for our wedding. Jacquie worked with us to coordinate the band, cupcakes, setup, flowers, and various food allergies, and the wine we wanted. We did most of the decorating which was fairly minimal, .....once again the way we wanted it. Everyone at the wedding had a great time and the staff were more than accommodating to all our friends and family. They have a great wine selection We love the bar, with the copper ceiling even though it is very small. It has an old rustic vibe. Yes it is in the basement, and we feel it has a rustic elegance. The food is always on point. I recommend you go out of your comfort zone and try something new, you will not be disappointed. We went back for New Years eve, had a great time, and paid for it, for the next few days. Can't wait to get back. read more

I attended a wedding here this past weekend and it was such a charming, quaint venue. The Inn is decorated very classically and tastefully. The wedding had 40 or so guests and it was perfect! The ceremony was held in the garden with the fountain running. The upstairs was where the cocktail hour was held with some tasty passed hors d-oeuvres - they had crab stuffed mushrooms, mini quiche lorraine and bacon wrapped scallops - all were served hot and the staff passing the hors d'oeuvres were very friendly. As a matter of fact all the staff was very friendly! The buffet that was set up for dinner was ok - this is where I give it 4 stars instead of 5. I tried the pork option but that was very over cooked - it was rock hard and virtually no flavor to it. We didn't stay at the Inn but some day I would like to. It looked like such a romantic place for a weekend getaway. read more
