After reading up on Buffalo Park, I knew that would fit my needs. Arriving around 7 am on a random weekday, the lot was already 3/4 full. Lots of runners and walkers getting their morning workout in. There's a 2 mile loop that is well signed and easy to follow, as well as off shoots of trails for longer hikes, including the Arizona trail. Since I was short on time, I mainly stuck to the loop and then did maybe 1/2 a mile on the Arizona trail out and back so I could get an even 3 miles in. Nicely maintained paths and wonderful views of the mountains. Really well done urban park that seems to be a local favorite.

Located near the university, this park is really more of an "educational" destination up front, with a few picnic tables, a lizard garden, a butterfly garden, a pond, etc. But it's also a trailhead for a trail that you can take as long as you like. We went on a Monday afternoon, and there were cyclists, joggers, people with dogs.... It wasn't crowded, necessarily, but it seems to be popular with the locals. It's nice and flat, too. We did about a three mile out & back with our dogs, and it was just right! And of course we treated our canine companions to a treat at the Dog Haus afterward! (Not in the park!)

We went on a Monday 08/25 and we pulled up to a spot that I had been to a few weeks back that the NICE lady camp host let us stay in since there was NOBODY there and it wasn't reserved for that day or even the next. We paid 12 bucks and was able to stay and fish for a few hours. (Thank you nice lady camp host!)... Now the "other" camp host was just the opposite, he was already rude and angry when we go there. He demanded we leave the spot and said "I don't even want to hear it, move you truck!"m "Can you read the sign that says this is not a day area spot" He was yelling at my cousin and I so we were just trying to get back in the truck while he was still yelling. We just wanted to get out of there. I would not usually review a lake camp area, but this guy was ridiculously rude. He was a short older guy and his camp was a tiny trailer that looked home-mde to me. Anyways I hope the Government Park services see this because if makes the wrong person mad he would be a liablilty.

We regularly go for flag football practices and there are easily 4 going on at any given time. It's surrounded by homes and trees so it really is a pretty park too. Still, the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts and I defy anyone to show up here on a warm summer evening when the local soccer club is practicing, the playground is full of tots, the ramada is full of gossiping moms and the many trails than run through here are full of bikes and NOT want to bottle the atmosphere. What a blast! We had a great time here this past Wednesday. The park opened up at 1 PM and we…read moreplayed for several hours. It's been a dry winter so all of the "snow" here is made with machines. There are many different tubing slopes and they were SO much fun! Not all of the tubing slopes were open but there was still plenty available and no wait times for us. Our 4 year old had a blast!! There are food trucks available or you can bring in your own food and drinks. Gear is also available for purchase (think gloves, etc). There is one kiddie slope (orange color) for the little ones -- this is the only slope that can be used for double riding in a tube. Overall an amazing experience for us! Would absolutely recommend and be back for more snow fun!

The main attraction really is the mansion so just buy a $18 pass which gives you access to the mansion tour as well as the outside grounds (which is what the $5 pass gives you access to). As for as museum goes, the subject material isn't that interesting: it's about a random wealthy family. Imagine a 100 years into the future we have a museum about a random millionaire. Our tour guide, Marco, was fantastic and great at answering questions for our little group of 4. The mansion really is just a showcase of how a wealthy person's home from the early 1900's. You get a glimpse into their business and personal lives as well as the type of furniture employed in the household. The tour was interactive and nice. The self guided tour is just literally walking around the mansion so there isn't too much to see but it makes for a nice, short walk. Overall, I think that there are more interesting museums out there. But if you're looking for a super quiet museum to browse, this would be the place.

This is a cool place where you can see structures left by Native people (prehistoric culture…read moreSinagua) although there are also artifacts from the Archaic peoples before them who did not reside permanently in the canyon. There is a visitor center and two trails here. The Rim trail at a pretty even 0.75 miles is great for people who want a stroll that follows the canyon rim (out and back trail). You can see the structures from the rim, but it's even better with binoculars. The Island trail is slightly longer at 1 mi, but a steeper 185 vertical feet into the canyon with a whole bunch of stairs at the beginning, and returns the same way. I guess people get too tired to climb back up since there are numerous signs warning of the steep climb back. The trail begins at the back door exit of the visitor center, which they close at 4 pm (the entire monument closes at 5 pm, so they don't want anyone to start the trail and get locked in). Both trails were great and they had informational signs along the way. I really liked the Island trail since you get up close and personal with the structures. The visitor center was standard - offering a gift shop, bathrooms outside, and information about the history and significance of the area. The ranger staffing the information desk was pretty patient with the group of tourists and determining if they were fit to do the Island trail. It's a totally different vibe from the Grand Canyon, so don't expect huge views.
