The…read moreentire property--including cabins, RV park, convenience store, and gas station--just opened for the 2026 season, and everything is fresh, clean, and thoughtfully designed. Our cabin had two comfortable queen beds with a shared nightstand, a chest of drawers, mini fridge/freezer, microwave, and Keurig. The bathroom featured a spacious walk-in shower, and blackout shades ensured great sleep during Alaska's long summer days. A ceiling fan kept it cool in the afternoon, while a new heater provided warmth in the evening. Outlets on both sides of the beds made charging devices easy. Inside were two chairs with a small table, and the covered front porch had two large rocking chairs and a table--perfect for morning coffee or relaxing after a day of fishing or sightseeing. The property also includes a clean laundromat and additional showers in the main building for RV guests. The RV park offers spacious pull-through sites with electric and sewer hookups, plus ample parking for trucks, boat trailers, and other equipment--a big plus for anglers and outdoor enthusiasts. There are a few wall hooks near the front door for jackets, rain gear, or towels. Overall, this is an excellent new addition to Cooper Landing. Whether staying in a cabin or bringing an RV, the 3 Bears property offers modern, comfortable accommodations with the convenience of fuel, groceries, and supplies in one place. We would definitely stay here again.

Lower Skilak Lake Campground is one of 9 campgrounds in the Skilak Lake Recreation Area portion of…read morethe Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. Of the 9 campgrounds, this is one of 3 that can accommodate RVs. From the east entrance to Skilak Lake Road this campground is located at mile 13.6 turnoff and then a bit of a ways down an unnamed road. There's a boat launch, potable water, and pit toilets. There's a total of 14 camping spots which are $5-10 a day. There's some really pretty views from this particular campground. Be aware that although this is not considered "back country" it's still Alaska and fairly remote, so come prepared with everything you might need, including bear spray, clothing for all types of weather, camping and fishing supplies, and all the food you might need. And you'll love this- there's no cell service! So if you want to unplug, this is the place to do it ----------------------------------------- On a weird, but noteworthy issue- If you've got young children, you'll definitely want to bring a potty seat insert for the pit toilets so they don't fall in. That's actually a real thing that could happen and the pit toilets can be fairly stressful for parents of toddlers so come prepared.

Bre also suggested a place for breakfast, right around the corner that was so quaint. We had the best crepes and waffles. Such a wonderful place, made better by our stay at this KOA. Thank you Bre

Every year when I'm down the street camping in Hope, I always mean check out this campground. This…read moreyear, just for Yelp, I remembered to swing by so I could write a review. This campground is in need of renovation as it is very dated. I would only recommend it for RV's for one night. I would not want to camp here in a tent due to the lack of privacy. Although the sites are nicely spaced and spacious, the lack of undergrowth and the openness (to allow ease of RV parking) really isn't conducive to cozy tent camping. And the outhouses are really old and gross, so again, tenters beware. Also, mmmm being right on the river I'd have some serious concerns about bears here in a tent. And also, well this campground just isn't very nice so you'd want the comfort of an RV. It's a park, crash for the night and move on kind of place. It looks like they're in the process of some improvements, which it is in dire need of. There's 18 campsites. 2, 4, 6, 9, 13, 14, 16 and 18 are along the river, but only an handful of them even have a view of the river, which by the way, is kinda ugly and dusty. Between the entry point of the campground and the sites themselves is a vast swampy area, so I imagine the mosquitos are horrendous. This isn't a site conducive to exploring or berry picking (I saw NONE). Along the river you could wade in the freezing water and skip rocks a bit, but other than that there isn't much to do. Hit Johnson Pass for the day then move on to another location. There is a campsite host here and firewood for sale. Sites are 14 dollars per night. I'd be very surprised if this campground ever fills up. It's sister campsite down the street 2 miles (Bertha Creek) is much more picturesque. Closes the first week in September As far as ammenities go, there's 2 water pumps, 2 outhouses, 1 dumpster, and 1 bear box ( for the whole joint!) This is a very remote location, so there is no gas station, food store or any other services nearby. Hope is about 15 miles away, Six mile Creek for river rafting is about 5 miles, and Girdwood is about 20 miles away (which is the nearest gas station.) Bring everything you need with you.

It's remote enough to unplug from the world (no cell.service in about 80% of this huge park) but close enough to basic services like toilet paper, gas and a latte if you REALLY need it that you won't freak out. There's an enormous variety of activities in the wonderful park, and the fire opened up huge fields of wild flowers and fungi that were previously much harder to access. In some places the fire damage is very very disturbing and sad, but if you like being alone, like me, and enjoy rebirth and photography, coming here can be a very beautiful and centering experience.

DISABLED / MOBILITY ISSUE TRAVELERS BEWARE!…read more This hotel does not care about you! I am on a 100 day tour around Alaska and Canada and have travelled through the south eastern islands / marine highway and Haines Junction / Tok by this point with no issue. 5 nights booking. Stated in booking I had mobility issues. Did not check until I arrived then they downgraded me to a room on the second floor via elevator. Would they come get me in an emergency? Would not have chosen this hotel if I couldn't get the advertised room. The given room only had a single handrail in the bathroom a distance from the toilet or sink. The shower was not step-free but mostly step-free. There was no rubber mat. The breakfast was very difficult to use with a walker and there was no assistance. On 3 occasions non disabled guests parked or blocked the disabled spots, raised with front desk, did nothing. On two of those occasions the lots were also full and I had to walk with my walker a significant distance in the rain. They had company vehicles blocking spots preventing me entering and others leaving and when asked if they could move temporarily I was told no. On third occurrence of disabled use/blocking informed them if I see it again I will be contacting police. Supervisor told me he was unaware of these issues which means they must have never raised or discussed them among themselves. He got sarcastic with me and told me I should call the police right now. I said it's your hotel I'm doing you a courtesy by telling you and not calling the police but I will the next time I see it. I left the hotel at this point as I simply don't know if I can park there or trust they would rescue me. DO NOT STAY HERE Attached are some photos showing these issues
