Went to look at cars, found a car with a crack in the front bumper and engine needed work. The dealers interested in only doing the engine work but not repairing the bumper. They were not interested in working with us on the price. Not a very good sense of customer service at all. They gave their price which was eventually settled on, but the salesman had a hard time getting information together for the insurance. They kept asking for pictures of the policy, the insureance card, the plates, etc.. It was alot of red tape to go through just to get this car. Hopefully this car will run. Not the best experience from these people...I feel the service would have been better and the sale could have went better if there was alot more organization... :( read more

Our son was heading to Iowa to pick up his daughter for Christmas break using our car. The check engine light went on and he stopped at the Buick Ken Nelson Auto Group in Dixon to check it out. It happened at about 6:30 pm. The technician volunteered to stay late and fix the car so he could continue to Iowa. Anna and Jeremy also helped this happen. The technician was Ben. Just another dealer that will not own up to their mistakes. Bought a 2022 Ram 2500 with only 16k miles. 2 months later after owning it i go to take it for its first service. The ram dealership locally tells me 5 lug nuts are completely broken off from being over tightened. You can tell that is an old break just looking at. This place tried to tell me the ram dealership probably broke it just to get money out of me. (Who says this?!) Clearly, they were the last ones to do service which means they overtightened and broke 5 lug nuts that cost me $600 to replace the bolts. read more

We were able to work with Peter Powers to find my husbands truck. This is the second time working withe Peter to get new vehicles and we would go back again and again. Peter helped broaden our horizons on what we should look into and helped keep that price right with the bells and whistles we are picky about wanting. He worked great with our kiddos and was patient with them as they were hella wild no matter how much we tried o wrangle them on-if you know you know. I purchased my vehicle Friday July 3rd, 2020 and today Monday July 6th my vehicle started making grinding noises coming from the transfer case. I called the dealer to ask them what to do or where to take it to be checked out and foxed. They quoted me the law that it's not covered due to me driving over the 500 mile limit for a used vehicle. I flew to Chicago to pick up the vehicle. They picked me up in the vehicle and drove me to their dealership. 3 hr round trip. Then I had a 227 mile drive back home. So now I'm over my miles and they tossed me to the curb. Then after being talked into purchasing their extended warranty for 3,000 they just now tell me I can't use it for 30-45 days. So now I'm stuck with a broken vehicle. Not good customer service and a crappy way to treat a customer. read more

Worst customer service experience ever. Requested to meet with the Nissan district representative over a paint issue. Could not get Jeremi Jahn to set anything up with me stopped in twice he's never around. Send text and phoned never returned a message or call. I heard from others he never calls back. Called Nissan to file a complaint, they even called him and said he won't return their calls. What kind of service is this? I have been in the automotive business my whole life. We bought a car purchased the extended warranty for a Nissan rogue the sales guy made it clear for repairs with this warranty we need it to be serviced here....had a bad sensor had it towed there from in town part got replaced a few days later same problem happens as before but we're in rockford after hours so going by what the sales man said we had it towed to dixon $300 bill because we were under the impression it HAD to be serviced at ken nelson....the service guy explained that was not true insurance would of covered the tow to the closest dealershipfor repair and we would of just had to pay the deductibleof $120 for repair but again that wasn'tknow to us so we felt we had to pay to get it towed to dixon....great so he said it was the same part and Nissan would give us a $130 check and that was guaranteed and that the service manager would just have to sign off on it. A few MONTHS later we call no call back so we stop in just to have the manager tell us ohh sorry I was just about to call you...IM SURE either way sorry dont see that happening and basically found out everyone here Is just spinning us and will lie to your face about customer service that we've been going back and forth with for months....depending on who you talk to that day theyll always have a different answer for you first and last car I plan to buy from this place....don't bother!!! read more

lets not talk about how Ken Nelson Nissan service forgot to place the drain plug tight enough that within weeks of receiving an oil change my car was leaking!!!!! still gave them the benefit of the doubt and returned for additional services....more recently I had an issue with my car battery and Jason offered to get my car in for inspection if I was able to get my car jumped started and to the Dixon location. When I arrived, he told me that my manufactured warranty was expired which is not true, and told me that he wasn't able to work me in until Tuesday of the following week, keep in mind, he knew there was an ongoing issue with the battery and advised that I bring the car in when I was having issues again...which I tried and was turned away! Jason tried apologizing for the miscommunication and insisted I understood incorrectly but the truth was he didn't think I was showing up and when I did he back tracked on what he had promised on top of giving me misinformation about the coverage of my warranty. luckily, I called jp Nissan in Lasalle and they were able to get me in as well as replacing my battery under the warranty. If you want good service DO NOT go to ken nelson in Dixon, IL...this place is a joke read more

All too often, YELP is used to penalize a business for bad practices and/or service. In my case I would like to utilize it to recognize the exceptional service I recently received at Ken Nelson Toyota. Two weeks ago, I began a search for a 2019 Toyota Tacoma. Over the past 30 years, I have bought two cars from Ken Nelson and two new vehicles from Anderson Toyota. I have had all of my personal and corporate vehicles serviced at one of these two dealerships. I always found the Service Department to be excellent at both places. I began my search at Ken Nelson. I had a specific model, color, and list of options in mind. Seth Bush, one of their newer Sales Consultants, was assigned to me. I made it very clear to Seth that this was my first stop, and that I would be shopping at Anderson Toyota on the following day. Seth spent a great deal of time with me, finally finding the vehicle I wanted in an out of state dealership. He answered all of my questions. If he did not know the answer to my questions, he did not try to tap dance around them. He sought help from his Sales Manager when he needed an honest answer for my questions. At the end of our meeting, Seth introduced me to the Sales Manager, and I was given their lowest and final price. I advised them that I would contact them after my visit to Anderson to let them know the status. Anderson located the same vehicle that Nelson had quoted to me. They verified that it was available, and we came to terms on a price that included several extras over the Nelson quote. They advised it could be in Rockford in 2-3 days. At that time, I left a deposit and awaited a call concerning its arrival. After 6 days, I had not received a call and began a series of 3 calls to Anderson. The Sales Consultant did not answer my first two calls. I finally spoke to the Sales Manager and he advised that there was a problem. They could not establish contact with the out of state dealer. The SM said there was nothing he could do, and more importantly, he did not even try to sell me a similar car that he had in stock. On the following day, I reclaimed my deposit from Anderson and immediately called Seth Bush at Ken Nelson to schedule a meeting for that afternoon. Prior to meeting Seth, I suggested that he read the YELP review that I had posted for the failed Anderson deal so that he would have the history. When I met with him, it was clear that he had done so, in addition to his Sales Manager, Mike Moseley doing the same. Both Seth and Mike knew that trying to pursue the out of state car would be a difficult effort. As an alternative, they found a similar model 2020 vehicle in the color and with the options I desired at another local dealership for just a few more dollars. They advised they could have it in Dixon within two days. They both clearly wanted to sell me a vehicle. At that point the deal was sealed, and the car was delivered, as promised, on the following Wednesday. While awaiting the delivery of my new car, I received 2 status calls from Seth and an additional call from the General Manager. It is clear that this this is what Customer Service is all about. Anyone who is thinking about buying a new Toyota, should consider asking to deal with Seth Bush. I am confident that you will receive great customer service, straight answers to all of your questions and the best deal possible. read more

Took my jeep renegade in for service. The turbo charger was covered in oil. The car had 24,000 miles on it and is still under warranty. The service manager tried to scam me into paying $128 diagnostic fee. After threatening to call jeep customer care they decided to waive the fee. They replaced turbo which of course was not covered by the warranty. Of course covid happened and I didn't drive the car much but when I did I noticed the fuel mileage had dropped from 35.8mpg to 29.6 mpg. When I bought it back in to complain again I was told I would have to pay a diagnostic fee. Again I threatened to call jeep and the scheduler went to get a manager who was a complete jerk about fixing what they did but he waived the diagnostic fee. Spent 3 hours on a Saturday waiting for the car to be told nothing we can do about it. We have a call into jeep. Been 4 months not a peep. Now the clutch is leaking fluid inside the cab, the carpet is full of DOT4 fluid. Almost $900 to fix a master cylinder with 31000 miles on.. Anyone want to bet the carpet is still full of fluid when I pick it up. read more

I shop hard before I go to the dealers. I look for specific vehicles with specific age, miles, price, features, etc. and drive across the region to get exactly what I want. It's how I bought my last three cars. This time Ken Nelson Auto Group had advertised just what I wanted. I called, and Alex (Al) Riley took my call. I asked about specific features. He said the vehicle was across the lot, so he'd have to call me back. After a bit he called, and confirmed the vehicle had the desired feature, then reminded me of its low low miles, and described the vehicle as having some fade in the carpet, but otherwise was real clean, inside and out. Then he reminded me how few miles were on the vehicle and how great it ran. I said I had a few more calls to make, but planned to drive up later if I knew the vehicle would be waiting for me. He said, yes, of course it would still be there. I didn't specifically tell him I would be driving all the way from St. Louis, but he had my area code and knew it was a distance. When we arrived hours later, I asked for Alex. The salesman looked puzzled, but offered to page him. After a while the sales manager (?) came out and asked what I wanted. When I told him, he said the vehicle was already sold to another lot. After I said Alex promised it would be here, he got on the phone and told someone what I said, and that I was angry about it. When he got off the phone, he told a salesman to take me around back and show me the vehicle. On the way across the lot, the salesman apologized profusely for how filthy the vehicle was. He was right; it was filthy, but, I'm still interested. We fumbled with seat adjustments all the while he promised the car would be detailed perfectly. But that wouldn't work for us, we need to drive it back tonight! He looked at us like we were crazy. Wife asked, "Why? Doesn't it run?" He turned the key and it ROARED to life! So loud, it sounded like a cracked exhaust manifold! So I drove all the way up here for a filthy vehicle that sounds like a Mack truck??? I told the poor embarrassed salesman that we were through looking. Then we went back to the office and informed the sales manager of our displeasure driving so far to find we were misled. Further, we would write a Yelp review, and wanted to be sure we had ALEX RILEY'S name correct. He rebuked me. "What did I expect for a vehicle of that age and price?" "If it looks too good to be true..." I informed him that my personal experience proved otherwise. But apparently I had previously dealt with honest businessmen. I failed to remind him the only things that "look to good to be true" are those which are misrepresented. And he failed to offer any apology whatsoever. read more

Sure, it might be a little more expensive than the chains, but I've never had a bad experience and they've never tried to sell me on things I don't need, which happens a lot at other places! I had already been warned about Ken Nelson before starting business with them. I thought I would still try it out since they were the closest certified Chevrolet dealership. I was disappointed to see that my oil light sensor had come on and told me I needed oil (oil change). So I called the dealership and spoke with Dan Dinges who I told I had just had an oil change around a month previously and therefore wanted to see what the issue was. Dan Dinges proceeded to look up my information and informed me I had driven 7000 miles in the 5 weeks I had had my vehicle and needed an oil change (he did not asked he tpld me that that is what I did). I told him that the information was incorrect and he said it says here you drove 7000 miles. Now, I believe I would know whether or not I drove around 200 miles a day for over a month but I guess not. I thought it would've also been asked whether or not I did drive that by Dan but he simply told me to bring it in and get an oil change. After I got off the phone I checked the oil, it was fine and still new (light), I also told my husband and brother-in-law who told me they just didn't change the sensor, which I had already figured out, it took them a matter of seconds so why is it a service employee at a certified dealership could not realize that. Upon arriving to Ken Nelson I asked Dan Dinges if they could manually check to see if I needed an oil change and he said based off of what we spoke about on the phone you do need one. I said no, I shouldn't because that is an insane amount of miles and I don't think that is correct. He said "I am just going off of the paperwork." I then proceeded to tell him it was probably just an error and I shouldn't need one and I told him it was an error and he said once again" I'm just going off the paperwork." As if the paperwork could in no way be incorrect. I then asked him a question to which I already new the answer, "how often is my oil supposed to be changed?" To which he replied "about every 5000 miles." I then asked "then why is it that you guys put a sticker telling me to come back after 10000 miles if the paperwork is correct?" To which he replied "I just going off what the paperwork says, Anna [Hussung] helped you last time she probably made the mistake." I was extremely irritated at the fact that instead of admitting a mistake he pointed to his coworker who was extremely delightful to me and blamed her so he wouldn't take the heat. I then proceeded to ask for a manager who was not there that day so I called the general manager the following day who was also taken back by him blaming his coworker instead of trying to resolve the issue. I could tell Dan Dinges simply did not want to be proven wrong and wanted to argue. I was also frustrated because I would've paid for something I did not need because an egotistical employee could not admit the customer was right and knew her vehicle. I was disappointed in the care and customer service and I feel bad for Anna because she was a delight and even though it was a small typo-error it was not her fault I will not be returning there. The sensor was also not reset by those who worked on my vehicle the first time creating a domino effect. Furthermore, I have been told they have done this to countless others who know very little about vehicles, as well knowing they are located in a small town where everyone relies on them and feels pbligated to go to. I will commute the extra 15 minutes to Sterling Chevrolet who had better reviews and over double the amount of reviews as well. I would just like to warn everyone who goes there to ensure you need the work provided, because you may not and on top of that you are be charged my a certified dealer which means automatically they are allowed to charge you more for the service because they are certified therefore ENSURE YOU NEED THE WORK BEING DONE. I think I got a taste of what I was warned about to begin with. read more

This is the worst Toyota dealership I have ever worked with. This was my 3rd new Toyota I have bought and I can honestly say Ken Nelson is the worst. All started with buying a new SUV, wheel alignment was off. Dealership told me nothing can be done done for 750 miles. No one ever drove the SUV to validate my concern. Was told to go to a dealer if the issue is still happening at a later date. Went to a different later a month late to get it fixed, and was told, Ken Nelson Toyota lied to me. Spoke to the sales manager at Ken Nelson, very rude, he didn't care and asked me if my one arm was longer then the other because of my alignment being off. Never again. Find a different Toyota dealer and save yourself some hassle. read more

A week later I was able to drive up and test drive the truck It was within the realm of negotiation so I went in with the salesperson and said , ok, give me your best price He came back close to $1000 more than the previous price ( I have the voicemail still) I was pretty put out so I just left, wasn't in the mood for games. I purchased a 2007 Chevy Tahoe from Ken Nelson Auto Group about two weeks ago. This vehicle was listed for over $16,000 on their website. The CarFax said that the vehicle had gone through their service department and had a couple items repaired (new serpentine belt and the rear differential seal replaced) along with an oil change and fluids checked. I drove 4 hours round trip to look at the Tahoe then another 4 hours round trip to purchase it. The day I purchased the vehicle I was told it was sold "As-is" but had the option for an extended warranty (for almost $2,000). I initially declined due to the amount of money I was already spending. I drove the Tahoe off the lot (8:15 at night) and immediately the brakes starting squealing. I also discovered that the cruise control didn't work. I called the Business Manager the next morning and left him a message to see if it was too late to add the extended warranty before all of the paperwork was filed from the night before. He never called back. I fixed the cruise control issue with an $18 part. The Customer Service Department called me a couple of days later to see if all of my questions were answered and to ask how my experience was. I called the Customer Service Department back and voiced my concern about having issues the truck already and that the Business Manager never returned my call. She apologized and said she would have the Service Department Manager call me back shortly. 2 days later the Service Manager had not called back so I called the Customer Service Department back again and voiced my concern that the Service Manager never returned my call. She apologized again and said she would let him know again. 15 minutes later the Service Manager calls back and seems very "snippy". I express my concerns about the issues with the Tahoe and I asked how a $16,000 vehicle should have problems right after driving off the lot? The Service Manager told me that a vehicle with over 100,000 miles does not go through the Service Department. I told him that according the CarFax the Tahoe had just had repairs / maintenance done at their facility (according to the dates it was after the vehicle was taken into inventory and right before the Tahoe went for sale on the lot). He claims there is no record of them doing repairs. He asked me who my salesman was and if he told me the vehicle was sold As-Is. I told him who the salesman was (Alex Riley) and that I did not find out that the vehicle was As-Is until I was signing paperwork. I told him that I had called the Business Manager to find out more information about the extended warranty the next day and he never returned my call. He said he would talk to the Sales Manager to see what they could do for me and call me back. He has never called back. Multiple calls back to the dealership to ask someone to call me have not been returned. So, the goal was to trade in my older vehicle and get a newer one that didn't need work. I'm now stuck with a vehicle that I have to start fixing. I will never do business with this dealership again and I am going to remove any and all decals / license plate covers that advertise the dealership. Be very cautious buying a vehicle from this dealer. They do not seem to be honest and they don't seem to care about Customer Service. read more

Dixon is way closer to me for service. I called and talked to Amy in service. She got me right in. I drove a few days later and I was treated like I was the only client of the day. Wow. Absolutely horrible experiences in the service department. After the dealership closed where I bought my car, I decided to take it to Ken Nelson Auto Group for routine service as they were convenient. Big mistake. They managed to make huge mistakes on my car every time I took it in for service work. The first time they had it, one of their technicians forgot to reinstall the transmission fluid cap and therefore allowed contaminants into my transmission. They wouldn't accept responsibility for it and I had to pay for a second transmission service. Furthermore the service manager was rude and condescending simply because I am a woman. He referred to the rear differential of my car as "the thingy that makes the back wheels turn". 3 weeks ago I took it there for a simple oil change and tire rotation. I asked them to look at one of the tires as it had developed a slow leak. The technician said the bead on the tire had came unsealed and charged me for re-sealing the tire and a tire patch. The very next weekend I took the car to a reputable tire shop because the leak had gotten worse. Not only had Ken Nelson's technician not properly beaded the tire, he also managed to miss a 10 penny nail that was embedded in it causing the leak!! The next incident happened when I took my car for a brake job. Imagine my shock and horror to find out that when Ken Nelson's service tech reinstalled the tires after the rotation, they managed to strip the lugs on the tire and used an impact gun to run the lugs back on causing 2 of them to break! Therefore it would cost me more to get the brake job done and my children and I had been in jeopardy the whole time and not known it. When I called them about it, they refused to accept responsibility and wouldn't even look at the car. From this point forward I caution anyone that would shop or allow service work to be done at Ken Nelson Auto Group. I know I won't be doing business there any further. I totally recommend Prescott Brothers in Mendota. read more

This company has mediocre customer service. The salesmen try to push you into vehicles that you didn't come to look at. If you are going to buy a car here I recommend finding your own financing. I let them find me "the best" financing possible, which meant that they just launched out my info to several banks which ultimately hurt my credit score by having a lot of inquiries at one time. I had purchased a car prior to moving to the Dixon area. Noticed the Ken Nelson dealership carried the same brand of vehicles and stopped in to ask if I could do my oil changes there and have the dealership where I had paid for an oil change package, pay Ken Nelson to do it. I realize it would be them doing me a favor, and I am a loyal customer if someone is willing to help out (especially needing to move to a new area for business a ways from my old dealership. The individual I talked to said he'd like to help me, but couldn't wait that long for payment. Wait that long for payment? It's not coming from Siberia... And we're not talking about thousands of dollars... maybe $40 every three or four months. If you don't want to do it, just tell me and I will simply move on. Don't give me an excuse. Needless to say Brian Bemis stepped up and said they would be happy to help me when I talked to them... and I'll be buying cars from them in the future. I think about what Ken Nelson could have gained from this... a lifetime of cars for my family. read more

Beware, all this company seems to care about is the bottom line. I took my truck here to get a water pump replaced. The technician installed the serpentine belt incorrectly and caused it to be thrown off the truck while I was driving it. I was 90 miles away when this occurred, and it took 3 days to get my truck back. I was very displeased with the attitude of the service manager who seemed upset that I was so far away when the belt was thrown, and astonished that he informed me the technician who did the maintenance on my truck was not going to be paid for his time because of his mistake, but fully believed I owed them the full $880 for the labor time he spent incorrectly doing work and not getting paid for it! Where did that money go? It only cost them $350 to get the repairs done in the suburbs, and not paying for the mechanic, leaves about $530 in labor charges alone in profit for the company who incorrectly did the work. The only compensation offed was a "free oil change" but as I live 1000 miles away, I am not sure how whole hearted that offer was. Very bad experience with Ken Nelson. I am not sure if they treated me different as they knew I was a service member who lived out of town and was only home for the holidays, or if that is how they always do business, but would fully recommend taking your vehicle elsewhere for service. read more
