This is a Japanese restaurant owned by a very nice old Japanese man, that speaks fluent English. It sits on top of a very nice Japanese shop, small but with enough stuff to make your eyes cry of happiness (in Lisboa is very hard to find a Japanese restaurant). This shop moved from Cascais (a city that I highly recommend paying a visit to right next to Lisboa) to the center of the capital.
The food itself is quite average to a Japanese standard, to be honest I was expecting much much better since this seemed to be a true Japanese restaurant. There is no other Japanese people other than Ken (the owner) working there, the Sushiman is a Portuguese cook. Probably got a course on Sushi but it wasn't good enough to earn the xtra star. And I am giving 4 stars for the friendliness of staff, as I am a vegetarian I asked them if they could put more choices to the menu when Maki Sushi was concerned, and they happily did it. And for my love of everything that is Japanese I asked who were the musicians that they were playing on the radio and the owner himself came to me with the CD for me to take note of.
I liked my night there but some touches of Japanese authenticity would make it much better.
Oh! And they do Take Aways! (which are very convenient :) ) read more
