Stayed 4 nights in a tent site with electricity on site & water nearby. Also nearby were clean restrooms with HOT showers, campfire wood, & ice for the cooler. Beautiful, nice, relaxing setting with the old time steam train coming right by the area at 10 mph during the day (giving tours). A beautiful entrance and that was about it for me. The site is small, but easy to get to. **BEWARE** - both my chairs were stolen when we left to go out to Mt. Rushmore for the day. I think the proprietors thought we left early because when we returned our picnic table was back to its original spot. I don't think a random camper stole two brand new REI chairs (valued at $80 each) and thought to stop and put our picnic table back too. A group of us booked this place beginning of the year. It was a little hard to find this place, especially when your driving or pulling 30 plus feet. The road into there was small and a bit narrow, the drive was pretty. Once there it was a pleasant place, nice sized campsites, close to bathhouse, all utilities working, clean, could see and hear the train a coming. Staff was friendly and helpful, they loaned us a ladder to get a better view of our rigs after the hailstorm. I would recommend them and we would stay there again. read more

Great location. Clean restrooms. Friendly staff. I am new to camping and I feel like I was very lucky to have found this campground. It is a mile from the town of Keystone and therefore close to what we wanted to see. This campground is family owned and Tom was the only person that I had contact with but he was very friendly. We were in space #73. It was off the road and had a great view of the hills and a little creek running below. Some of the spaces are very near the road. The road was very quiet in the evening and the train stops early in the evening so I don't think that noise is a problem while sleeping. Space 73 is VERY close to the bathroom and that can be a positive or negative depending on your likes/dislikes. The restrooms and showers were spotless! The water pressure was great. There are plenty of restrooms around the facility and so it was never crowded. There is laundry and Ice on property if need be. There is a pool onsite and looked very nice although we did not use it. I found the campground very charming and I would recommend it to anyone. read more

I am 65 years old. I have been camping all of my life. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had. The website suggests it is secluded. Literally the road was 3 feet from my head. The train tracks were on the other side of the road. Helicopters flying above with tours. Certainly not my idea of camping. But that is not why I am writing. I found the male owner to be very rude and arrogant. He kept calling me dear and started throwing me insults many of times. I asked him for his name and he said Get out! This little campground is tucked away from the main highway and run by the most delightful and friendly couple. We stayed for three nights in Sept. 2022 while we explored all that the Black Hills area had to offer. The campground was located in a perfect spot for our day trips around the BHs. if you want your vacation been ruined, then you can visit at this "Nice" RV park. The girl (unfortunately the owner's daughter) working in their office is the customer service, she was very aggressive, she was screaming at us, type of behavior that isn't appropriate and isn't very nice for be in this business. They told us to leave, because my husband simply told her that this park has some safety issue, which they should tell others visitors, before they come to stay in RV spot. The owner and his daughter come to our site and unplug us from electricity, then they turn the water off too and it was 2 hours before we have check out. They was screaming in our faces and told us that we have to leave in 5 minutes, even though we paid for 2 days camping, we end up to leave early. Don't come here if you prefer good or even mediocre customer service. A belligerent woman at the helm. An okay place to stay near Custer state park. However, the young woman at the desk has atrocious manners and lacks common courtesy. Upon arrival she was raising her voice at one of the other patrons, not a good look. Then had the audacity to cut my sister-in-law short while she was explaining a situation with the cabin she was renting, and refused to listen further. Lastly, the water well went out. We were without water and that includes toilets for a night and most of a day. Mind you, we paid $220 a night for this cabin. The woman was unpleasant, and quite frankly belligerent. When I asked what would happen if the water could not be fixed she continued to state over and over " honey, this is an inconvenience for all of us. I can't predict the future". No ma'am, I don't believe you suffer with chrones nor have two children who needed the restroom thoughout the night. It goes without saying we were very disappointed with service. We tent camped here for a few nights and it was amazing. It's less then 2 minutes from the town of Keystone. The staff working seemed very friendly & pleasant. It's a beautiful view. The bathrooms were very nice and close to the campsites. It was nice that each tent campsite had shelters with a picnic table. We didn't swim in the pool but that looked nice as well. First off (and I know this has NOTHING to do with the camp itself): the Black Hills smell AMAZING! This place is a gem, IMHO. We only camped so I can't speak to the rooms, but the sampsites are nice, with covered picnic tables and charcoal grills and a spot for your car. There are quiet hours that I believe start at 10pm. Nice showers, clean bathrooms, freindly service, ice on site to ensure coolers stay, well, cool. A pool, if you're into that (we didn't utilize it but a lot of people did). The RV area is sepereate from the tent camping area which was nice. The wireless is yes, slow, but it's being used by how many others? Plus, when I'm camping I don't necessarily want to be as connected as I am at home. But that's just me. The town is just minutes from the site, so you can be tourists if you want and don't have to bring food to prepare. But it's so nice and quiet, I'd forget how close to "downtown" we were. When I return to this neck of the woods (see what I did there?) I'd be more than happy to stay at Kemp's again. read more

We came all the way from WA state to visit Mt Rushmore for the first time. We had 3 additional RVs in our party. We called on January 1st since we had reached out and was told reservations for this time were being taken starting January 1st. We spoke with them in detail about our group & what ours needs were regarding trailers. Our 5th Wheel trailer was the longest and heaviest out of the group. We also requested that we all be together and we were assured that would be no problem. We each individually called in to get our spots. We arrived around 4:00 pm the afternoon of our reservation. They had experienced some rain the days leading up to our reservation. There was no clear signs of where to go and they didn't provide "spot" numbers but we just went in where it indicated "RV"'s. A man came running out to show my husband where to go while I went inside to check in. When I came out, he was being put into the "wrong" spot (although the owner was the one telling him where to go). The "correct" spot is the picture I've attached. Our trailer is approx 36 feet long. Even with blocks of wood, our trailer still weighed enough to continue to sink and my husband was unable to level our trailer. Our slide outs where over the next persons picnic table. Furthermore we were not with our party but down from them. The customer service was pretty nonexistent...borderline rude....After multiple failed attempts, we pulled out of that place and away from our group. It was not by choice but by necessity. It was 2 nights & 20 miles between us and our party. I would not recommend this place to anyone. The misrepresentation on their website and the fact that they clearly weren't listening to our needs when we reached out multiple times to confirm that this campground would fit all of our needs...then traveling 2 full days & 1300 miles to come into this was a complete disaster that I would not want anyone to experience. read more

Also lots of trees and shady spots and shade structures, our tent camping spot was on the edge next to the forest. We had shade well into the afternoon, so in august the tent stayed nice and cool. Kemp's Kamp is a gem snuggled in the Black Hills. It has easy access to downtown Keystone and Mt Rushmore. Also a short drive to Crazy Horse. The road leading to the campground is tight and winding, but just go slow. The RV sights are small because of the terrain, but do-able. There is physically not a lot of space because there are hills on either side. The staff is friendly, restrooms and bathhouses are clean. There is only one laundry room that has one washer ($3 per load) and one dryer $0.25 for 10 min), quarters only. The tent camp sights each had a wooden cover over the picnic tables. Nice touch. This is worse than a motel. I feel like the rooms could have been bigger especially since we are paying 87$ a night almost the same price as a hotel. The wifi sucks I can't even post anything onto twitter or Facebook, it's terribly slow. The tv is just a little bit bigger than the size of my iPad. The A/C looks like it's from the 70's, the beds smell like old people. I would advise no one to come here this place is a dump and it's way over priced. What a perfect place to camp in the Black Hills of South Dakota! The place is so wonderful! From the smells of the forest to the size, security, and friendliness of the camp owners this place was a wonderful find for us! We used a tent pad and it was sizable with parking for your vehicle right at camp. We had a covered picnic table and convenient access to the shower hours and laundry facility. With just minutes to all that South Dakota has to offer tourism wise this is a very cost effective and wonderful place to lay your head when you're not exploring! Also another neat thing is that the site is far enough from Keystone to feel secluded but close enough to everything to be very convenient. Awesome!!!! read more

A gentleman guided us into our spot and we were able to get set up for a quick one night stop. The spot was quiet. We didn't use the bathrooms so can't comment there but the people were nice. It's a family run place and they clearly care about their guests. We visited my Rushmore in the morning and finished our drive the next day. Wonderful cabin! Clean, well appointed, 32" flat panel TV, satellite feed. The free Wi-Fi allow all 4 of us to access the internet at the same time. Camping sites are available as well. The location of Kemp's Kamp is amazing. You're in the forest, yet conveniently located less than a mile from town, 5 miles from Iron Mountain and Mount Rushmore. I will stay here again!! read more

We stayed in one of the cabins. The cabin itself was decent enough, but the technology situation is abysmal. We booked this place because it said it had WiFi, but it absolutely does not reach up to the cabins. Pretty problematic when you planned on getting some work done. The TV situation was bizarre as well. We didn't watch much, but an hour or so some nights with the kids. Either all 8 cabins have to watch the same thing, or the remotes are so strong that everyone's remotes control everyone else's TVs. We were in a station battle with someone...we'd set it to one channel, and they'd set it to something else. Back and forth we fought.... Bizarre. read more

Sites were adequate but narrow....I had to get the neighbor on my slide-side to watch his awning when putting out my slide so I didn't hit his awning. Staff (Tom) was very helpful. Kemp's Kamp is a real scam operation! "Tom" told me on the phone that we could have a trailer site with room for a tent for the six of us for $67. I gave him a credit card, including security code. When we arrived, tired and travel worn, the same Tom presented me with a bill for $89 and said they didn't have any sites that would accommodate both a trailer and a tent. When I protested--and noted that I had five witnesses to the deal, he offered to cancel and let us leave! Not a good place to do business! Oh, also loud motorcycles driving through camp, which is along a noisy road. Extremely noisy pool. No access to supplies. read more

Our family stayed here last Thursday night. The new owner Tom was so welcoming and accommodating. We had mechanical issues with our RV Friday morning and he went above and beyond to help us. The location of the RV park is stunning. The pool is beautiful, everything is very clean and well kept including the showers and bathrooms (and I'm very picky) I highly recommend staying here. Marlena told me they closed at 8pm and if we were arriving later to keep driving. She suggested the KOA down the street. We got in about 10pm so I was able to find another campground in town at the last minute. Since I was told to "keep driving" after 8pm I figured that was her canceling and me. She charged me three nights stay and refused to reverse charges! We did not stay there and she still charged my credit card. read more

Keep away from Kemp's Kamp (in Keystone, SD) if you value decent, understanding owners and acceptable customer service. We had to cancel our trip to South Dakota 2 1/2 weeks before our arrival date (which was to begin September 9th) due to the sudden increase in Covid 19 Delta Variant cases both in our home state of Florida, and in South Dakota because of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. My wife and I are both in our 70s with underlying health conditions and our physician advised us not to travel at that time. We had a cabin booked at Kemp's Kamp for 3 nights and we called them to explain our dilemma. We understood that it was past the cancelation date, but had had every intention of going until that day-August 24th. The manager we spoke to was not at all understanding. She would not allow us to cancel without charging the full amount, nor would she permit us to change our reservation to a later date when it would be safe to travel again. Her response was, "Our state isn't closed-- too bad!" One would expect that as part of the hospitality industry, as a courtesy, a partial refund or an opportunity for consideration for a future booking would be offered. On the contrary, this proprietor became belligerent, argumentative and rude and even told us we would not be welcome there in the future. She hung up on us and immediately charged our credit card for the full amount of our stay. Why would anyone patronize such heartless and unfeeling proprietors given so many other wonderful choices in the area? read more

Rented a tent site in late July (a week before the Sturgis rally). Stayed one night. Pretty nice stay. Our granddaughter loved the pool. Campground is very close (but not too close) to all of the Keystone attractions. The restrooms/shower houses have definitely been there a while, and are "usable". If you like traditional campfires, forget it, though... no ground fires. There is no on-site store to buy any necessities you may have forgot, only a pop machine and some ice bags for sale. I've paid less for more at other locations, but considering the area, the price for a site at Kemp's is definitely reasonable for the area. If I were in a Class A or a fifth wheel, I would have looked elsewhere. Overall, very clean, friendly, and there's plenty of shade. read more
