Well this review is not about the dealership. The staff have been reasonable to deal with.
It's about Subaru, so if this review is not in an appropriate area, please Mods, feel free to move it.
I purchased three Forester models from this dealership, a 2004, 2008 and a 2010. Love the drivability, safety and all wheel drive capabilities that Subaru has to offer. My extended family recommended Subaru to us in 1999 for these reasons. We were never happy with the seats or interior features (you get a lot more with Hyundai and Kia), but liked the safety and all wheel drive capabilities in winter weather. We drive a lot in extreme winter conditions.
Today, the head gasket failed after 120,000kms. We we told that the cost to repair would be approximately $3100.
The Service Advisor at the dealership said 'the head gasket problem was a Subaru problem, a faulty design with the Boxster engine.' She acknowledged that there were many other 2005-2010 Subarus with similar issues. This was confirmed with a quick Google search.
My question is, why is corporate Subaru not accepting responsibility for a faulty head gasket?
We just payed the car off and we were looking forward to many more years of enjoying our Forester. Head gaskets should not fail after 120,000 kms. This car maintained a regimented service routine.
It seems to me, there should have been a recall, and Subaru should accept some of the responsibility for the labor costs to replace the head gasket, even after the power train warranty expires. This car is only 5 years old!
Even if corporate Subaru does not accept responsibility, surely the dealership can help to ensure I purchase another Forester from them when it's time by helping with labor costs or are they satisfied with an unhappy long term customer who will go elsewhere to have it repaired? read more
