    Miss Lady ..

If you are getting a massage here in the lower level, be prepared to be a bystander in the masseuses social club. All they do is talk to each other across the room the whole time even when they have a huge sign behind them that says QUIET. Every time I go it's the same thing. It was not a relaxing experience at all......and it seems at times they weren't even focusing on doing a skilled therapeutic massage because they were too busy talking. Then they have the nerve to stand by the desk awaiting their tip!! Only way you will have a better experience is if you get an individual room on the main floor where they are isolated from their co-workers. I've been here for the back walking massage. It was pretty cool, but when they walk over your rib area, you cant breathe. Generally it was a good experience. Also for the body massage, she massaged my calves for 20 seconds, my arms for 2 minutes each and spent a majority of the time on my back and shoulders. I hate when you go for a FULL BODY massage and THEY ONLY MASSAGE ONE AREA MOST OF THE TIME. I would never do a couples massage with them again and I wouldn't recommend it because they just talked to the other masseuse the whole time and they don't focus on the massage. Lastly, another time they GAVE ME A MALE MASSEUSE WITHOUT ASKING first, and when the female came in she DIDNT SMILE ONCE THE WHOLE HOUR, even when I looked her directly in her face and smiled to get her to smile, or made a request about the massage. And then they still asked for a tip!!! P.s. its also fuckin annoying when you want to instruct the masseuse on how you want to be massage but they don't even speak English and cant understand "softer" "gentle" "harder" "sore" "pain". Train your staff on basic masseuse terms!!!!

But the tour isn't over, as across the street are more choices. Since this one, Evergreen Beauty looks to be the first one coming from the east, on the north side of Spadina, I went inside, at this basement spot and was greeted by Jessica, hailing from Beijing, China. I opted for the usual combo, 30 min reflexology and 60 minutes shiatsu. Her technique was quite good and she was able to muster some decent pressure which is what I was after. At this point I have to admit that I'm getting a little confused about which one is which as they are all starting to look very similar. To add to the confusion, some of the staff move around so if you find someone you would like to use again, you need to ask for their card and contact. They sometimes work at one spa, and then move to a different one in the area so you need to ask for their availably and not assume anything. As well, their business cards may be from another spa, and not the one you were in. And since their technique and training vary widely, it helps to know what you're in for. The reflexology was done in the massage room, which wasn't quite as good since she skipped the soaking in hot water part, which is good in that there's more time for massage, but bad in that the soaking seems to help relax your feet and feels great! Ask about the soaking when you put in your order as you can choose to have the feet first, or vice versa. And ask if they include soaking in the procedure. Nice spot in the north strip of Chinatown!

Upon entering the space, you are required to take off your shoes. There are shoe racks available to place your shoes. After checking in for my appointment (was early), I sat down in the waiting room to make myself comfortable. My massage therapist came to get me at the scheduled appointment time and she took me to a shared room with multiple chairs (I believe it was called their Tulum room). Luckily, I was the only person who would be in that room during my massage experience. My massage therapist, Amanda, was friendly and personable. We made small talk as she first massaged my hands and forearms. She made her way to my shoulders, back and scalp. A very relaxing experience! Overall, great space to unwind and relax. Would return for a full body massage next time!

The place was clean and the rooms were private. Seating area looked very nice. I really enjoyed my foot rub but I did find the shoulder massage was mediocre. I don't think the therapist was targeting the right spots. Perhaps getting one of the other staff might have been better. Other than that, it was a good price.

My first impression is that this is the most legit spa I've seen in Chinatown so far. Even their business card says "accept insurance" on it so someone there must have a RMT license and adhere to the rules enough to keep their license. The other thing that gave me a more elevated impression about Blue Sky is that they have some expensive looking gear in there. Not that I know what it's for but it looks impressive. Now that I've tried reflexology, I'm hooked on that and find it relaxing and a great way to get in the mood for a massage. It helps to be in the right mood for a massage to be effective. If it takes a half hour into the massage to get that way, then that's less time for the massage to do the most good. I had a smartly-dressed more mature woman named Lucy take care of me, and she told me to try and sleep or relax with the reflexology and turned the lights right down to pretty dark which was great and worked a treat. Since they tend to massage up your calves it's almost a good idea to take your pants off, or wear light sweatpants so they aren't fighting their way down during the reflexology. Next the massage and her technique was quite impressive. She wasn't a large person but amazingly strong and could boss my body around without a problem. I appreciated how she could grab a leg or other part and shake it like you sometimes want to shake sense into someone (but can't) and in this case my body needed some sense shaken into it, so wow I'll be considering Lucy as my go-to for the best value in Chinatown massage done right! I didn't see it on the sign in the room, but at the desk they listed a 90-min massage as an option, which would be awesome especially coupled with another 30-min of reflexology beforehand. Recommended!

He really put in a lot of effort in my massage and made sure I was comfortable. They have a variety of massage combos for cheap (ex. facial + massage, foot + body, foot + back, etc). I'm not sure why, but every time I go to try out a new place for shiatsu massage in Chinatown, the experience gets better and better, and XiangXiang is no exception. It's easy to spot with some bright yellow signage, and the requisite tent card sign on the sidewalk out front. The front door is just down a few steps where the waiting area is right there in plain view. There's a hair salon above it. I walked in and was immediately greeted and offered some slippers from the shelf to prevent dragging in slop from the sidewalk out front into the massage rooms in the back. The charges for services are clearly posted and Lucy asked how many minutes I wanted. Now I know to choose the 60 as it is clearly the best value for the dollar. Interestingly, this is the first place where they had a credit machine, although I paid cash since I'm down with that. As soon as the massage started, I knew this woman had plenty of experience. This was the first one who asked, before starting, if I wanted light, medium, or heavy pressure, in good English. I said heavy and I'll let you know if it's too much. It wasn't and the experience was much more effective for me compared to others. She even asked if I wanted heavier pressure than "heavy" but I was good with her choice. This worked amazingly well for me. The heavy pressure on my thighs worked wonders and seems to have lasted til now, which is awesome if that is what made the difference, but I can't explain the improvement with any other reason. There was no head massage, no nonsense, and instead a concentrated body massage that was the best ever for me. This lady is absolutely amazing with what she can do and I highly recommend her!
