Love this atmosphere and great live music! The drinks are super cheap and they have a huge area for dancing and pool.

This is my first time in Parkes and the 4hr drive took us 7 because of fog and traffic and accidents, and we were hungry fed up and car weary by the time we crawled into town at 9pm. Straight to the Raily, where the World's Biggest Chicken Parmy awaited me, I chose Spanish flavour with pepperoni and feta and olives and this thing is about the size and weight of a brick, when it landed in front of me I was so happy I could have screamed, but my mouth got real busy all of a sudden. Beers are five bucks or thereabouts, there's a diverse Friday night crowd of farmers and yokels and young pretty girls getting some pre-game in before hitting the town's only nightclub, it's a veritable cavalcade of people watching. Pub lyf yo.

The railway hotel was on the edge of town and of course on the railway line. It's a smallish pub but is certainly more modern and edgy than any of the other pubs in town. The staff are all young, theres funky artwork on the walls, drink coasters are all artwork, schooner glasses sponsored by local businesses, and there is something different on every night. But that aside - I came to try the parmie and it didn't disappoint! I ended up coming here twice during the week I was in Parkes. Once to try the Spanish parmey and once for the Mexican parmey. Both were massive and loaded with toppings. They're all around the $17 mark which includes your choice of any 2 sides. The sides were fries, mash, veggies, salad and some others I can't recall. The chicken parmeys are definitely the highlight of this place. $5 schooners aren't bad either! If you're in Parkes heading out to see 'The Dish' is one of those must do things. I reckon a parmey at the Railway Hotel should be second on that list!

And it should - rumour has it it's the oldest tourist hotel in Australia, continuously operating since 1878. Playing host to royalty and the wealthiest of wealthy in its former life, it's now a perfect place along your roadtrip to stop for a pint, snuggle up to an open fire and thank your lucky stars that you don't have to hop in your horse-drawn carriage to enjoy the Blue Mountains. And hey, if things at the beer garden get a bit out of hand, they still offer accommodation. Word to the wise: portions are *massive* so what you intend to be a "small nibble" of soup and salad will actually be enough to bathe in and subsequently string together Adam and Eve style.

I got lost in history and curiosity as I ventured round trying to find any sort of bistro area. I eventually did ...... it looked like an old 70's type bowling club eatery. It was good enough, just didn't fit the period of the building .... must have been the last renovation .... in the 70's. It had lots of rooms and doors leading to all sorts of nooks. There were a few people around but spread out leaving it without any real atmosphere. I would like to come back one day ..... but may leave it alittle while. Ps. the food was ok ..... a meat pie & midi !
