The Keller pool is great and the new masters swim program is fantastic. The pool is mainly for…read moreschool purposes, so it can be a bit frustrating when they say there is lap swim and all lanes are taken. If you remind yourself the pool is mainly for the kids, then it helps the sting of getting to the pool and having no lap lanes available. Having lived in multiple states and having swum at many pools, always having a set number of lanes open to the public is one way to get around that. But they try very hard to be accommodating. To the reviewers of the front desk: Monica and the rest of the staff are actually very nice. My first 1-2 visits were cordial, but after just a few visits you'll realize they are very nice and caring. Plus everyone has a bad day. The pool manager and lifeguards are also very kind. To the mother who's kids were cold: the pool is kept in the low 80's. I used to teach swim lessons and many children shiver. So they just must keep moving. A pool warmer than the low 80's is too hot for competitive swimming, which is what this pool is designed for. You might search out a pool that works with folks with medical problems or a pool designed only for giving lessons. Those pools are kept around 90 degrees. It's also a myth that you can catch a cold from being cold. So most likely your kids were already sick when they got to the pool.

The younger helper coaches were super nice but the owner/older men were way less than friendly and welcoming. My son really dreaded going after a few weeks. It really wasn't tailored to kids at all. Plus all their equipment smelled. The coach asked if my son was homeschooled because he "wasn't friendly." I asked if friendly was a requirement to fencing. Random. I think if I were an adult or teen wanting to try it out it would be a good fit, but definitely not for elementary school kids.

I left DFW in 2013, but I still try to visit the club for good fencing and to see great friends whenever I am back in town. Fencing at GBFC helped me grow as a person. At GBFC, I learned how to fence at an internationally competitive level, and the coaching I received helped me become part of the 2015 NCAA Div1 National Championship Notre Dame fencing team. But more than that, I made lifelong friends with my fellow athletes and my coaches. GBFC helped me learn the value of healthy competition, physical fitness, dedication, strategic thinking, teamwork... the list goes on and on. If you're interested in a sport that will challenge you, teach you how to be a smart, tough, and healthy competitor, and will also help you stand out from the crowd when it comes to college applications or water cooler conversations, you should definitely check out GBFC.

The workout floor is amply stocked with machines and free weights, there are even sanitization wipe stations scattered throughout the floor to wipe down equipment after use. There are small combination lockers to store your keys, wallet, etc. while you workout, too. If you like this sort of thing, there are a variety of channels on simultaneously across several wall-mounted TVs and the tuned channels are labeled under the TV itself. You can use headphones (wired or wireless I believe) to tune to your preferred channel. I prefer to listen to music on my phone during a workout instead. The rest of the facilities are great, too! Small rooms for classes, childcare facility (hours vary, check the website), pool, chill zone (hangout place with air hockey, fooseball or table tennis, and video games), and when it's warm out, a mini water park outside!
