I chose this practice because I myself work at a dental specialty office and Dr. Keith Mellovitz's name was very prominent, I was seeing his name on many of our patients charts. Of course being in the field and after seeing his name I started to ask our patients about Dr. Mellovitz. If our patients trusted him with their teeth than why shouldn't I. You only have one set of teeth and who you choose to keep them healthy is very very important. He have 'THE BEST HYGIENIST' that I have ever experienced, Ermie. She is a rock star!!! To me it is very important to be able to trust someone with my teeth because they are SUPER important to me! I would refer anyone to see Dr. Mellovitz and if I trust him with my teeth and that says everything. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Mellovitz's for many years and have had consistently positive experiences during my visits to his office. Even though I've moved out of the suburbs, I still make the trek up to Highland Park for my appointments! The office is easy to find, with plentiful parking, and the receptionist is always very friendly. The waiting area is typically pretty crowded, but I never feel like I'm waiting too long when I come in. The hygienist, Pam, is really gentle throughout the cleaning, which is awesome. It's definitely key to leave the dentist feeling like your teeth are clean and not in pain. Pam was very gentle and careful throughout the cleaning. Overall, no complaints! After the cleaning, I waited for a short time for Dr. Mellovitz who checked on my cleaning and overall dental health. Any time I have questions when I go in for a visit, he patiently answers them for me. At the conclusion of my visit, I received a bag of "goodies" i.e.: free toothbrush, toothpaste, etc., which is such a nice touch! Overall, I will definitely be returning to Dr. Mellovitz's and recommend him to anyone looking for a dentist in the northern suburbs. read more

Keith has been my dentist for over 10 years ... probably longer! I can't say enough good things about this excellent gentleman as a person and dentist. I am pretty cautious about who I'll let probe my molars. My grandfather was a periodontist (gum doctor) who only let us see the best dentists. He sent our family to Keith and we've never looked back. I live in Oklahoma now but I still schedule my dentist appointments around visits home to Chicago. I can't imagine seeing another dentist. The front office is super helpful with scheduling and they always call to remind you of your appointment the day or two before. After a trek up some hearty stairs to the third floor office in downtown Highland Park, I hardly ever have to wait. I love the hygienists in Keith's office. They're friendly, inquisitive, and always keep talking so I don't think about the sharp objects picking plaque out of my teeth. Pam is really great - she's been there for years, knows my whole family, and never makes my gums bleed! The whole team is really top notch. Keith always comes in, goes over my xrays, does a thorough check of my teeth and gets my life update. The dentist is never an anxiety-ridden experience at Dr. Mellovitz's office and the location is perfect (I mean, I guess traveling 700 miles isn't perfect but within the North Shore, you can't get much better than downtown Highland Park). read more

This is a serious warning about using the services of Dr. Keith Mellovitz in Highland Park. Dr. Mellovitz works in a hurry and does not use the latest techniques or updated equipment. All he had to do was place a simple single post in my tooth for a crown. Dr. Mellovitz measured the post two millimeters too long and used an old outdated double post that was too large for my tooth. He forced the post right through the back of my tooth perforating the tooth root. The worst part of this negligence is that he LIED about the broken tooth he caused and DIDN"T TELL ME that he had perforated the tooth root , and just kept working on my other teeth in that quadrant for over FOUR MONTHS while that tooth became infected and the bone around it rotted away. As a result that tooth had to be pulled and I have had to have TWO BONE GRAFTS and an IMPLANT totaling over $6000.00 and taking an entire painful YEAR to heal. Three other dentists told me that the large pocket of infection and bone loss could have easily spread during that time to the rest of my jaw and brain resulting in my death or disfigurement. A dentist is required to tell you when they have made a mistake and then refer you for treatment, this is the worst kind of dishonest malpractice and negligence. Dr. Keith Mellovitz of Highland Park is currently under investigation by the Illinois Division of Professional and Financial Regulation for his refusal to diagnose, treat and refer me in a timely fashion after breaking my tooth root. But because patients often don't check with the dental board before seeing a dentist I feel I need to write about what he did and how he treated me afterwards with regards to reparation and publish it on www.Buzznews.net to warn other prospective patients. read more

In fact not only do my wife and I go to him but also my son and his whole family. Three generations! He is kind and thoughtful and it is like having a family member taking care of you. My family has been seeing Dr. Mellovitz for as long as I can remember. As another reviewer stated, there are reasons why a person sticks with the same provider for decades and Dr. Mellovitz exemplifies all those reasons. He and the hygienists are professional, friendly and makes the exam or procedure as comfortable as one could ask. The office staff is really nice. Easy to schedule appointment and they always run on time. Easy parking. Also a great practice for kids. The entire office is great with my three kids (7, 5 and 3 years old). Before they are old enough to have their own appointment, the hygienist always gave them chair rides and offered to count their teeth to ease them into having a full appointment. My kids totally don't mind their cleanings, which I think really says a lot about this office! read more

There are reasons families remain with their dentists. Keith Mellovitz is a good example of an intelligent professional who retains patients for years. I was introduced to him at the beginning of his professional career when he was with another dentist. After he opened his own practice, I quickly became one of his first patients and added my children to his care. His office is consistently efficient and professional. A patient has confidence when all the staff, including reception, knows what to do and provides excellent customer service, Whether it's a cleaning by Tina (who has a sense of humor and talent), a dental procedure by Dr. Mellovitz, crown, filling or appliance, etc., he is exceptionally detailed and precise. He updates any medical changes to enhance his care treating the "whole' patient - he always plays it safe and documents everything! My children, who have since moved away, have been to other dentists, but consider him the best. The first and last impression is the front desk. Jennifer, who is the office manager, I presume, takes ownership of her responsibilities and the practice. I can always count on her to deliver the proper information to the insurance company and follow through, the latter being the key to getting paid or reimbursed. There is very little turnover in that office which probably says it all. The staff (and other dentist), respect Dr. Mellovitz, and the way he practices and care for his patients. He must be the boss everyone likes and respects; he sets a good example for all dentists and management. Loyalty is often elusive but not in his office. read more

Dr. Mellovitz is a hack. He uses out of date tequniches, forces patients into procedures that are unnecessary, and only cares about $$$. I would never recommend someone see him if they want an honest person working on their teeth. He is the equivalent to a crocked auto mechanic read more

Dr. Keith Mellovitz and his team have been the primary dental providers to me and my family for over a decade. We are very pleased with our experiences and we have had plenty of routine - and not so routine - work done. We were very particular in our selection process due to the fact that two of the five people in my family are not very excited about ever going to the dentist, no matter who it is. Upon receiving recommendations from people we trust, I went to Dr. Mellovitz and, after being happy with his work myself, then introduced him and his team to the rest of my family. I think it is rare to find a provider that is as compassionate as (s)he is capable technically. In Dr. Mellovitz, we found that combination. While routine cleanings are typically done by a friendly and capable hygienist staff, Dr. Mellovitz ALWAYS makes a point of examining every patient before leaving the office. Of particular note for me is the way he handled one of my children who, as a 3 year old, required major dental work by a pediatric specialist. Though the work was excellent, that experience was traumatic for her and it resulted in an acute dentist phobia. Fifteen years later, Dr. Mellovitz worked diligently with my daughter over a couple of years to appease her fears and ultimately complete a revision to that dental work. He made a point of following each appointment with a telephone call the next day and was genuinely concerned for the outcome. So recently I did write a pretty disappointing review with this practice that I deleted it later. It was a leap of faith. I have been a patient there for 8 years and I a m not happy writing bad reviews but they deserve every bit of it I also discussed them with a friend and was told they regularly force patients in unnecessary procedures like gum surgery -better, stronger base for the crown. So anyway... No discussing of costs or that fact that I was leaving for a 8 weeks, they start doing a crown. Before I can say anything my tooth was stripped and I was stuck with them doing my crown. Simple molar crown porcelain fused noble metal not root canal will set you back $1690.00. And I have to postpone my 8 week trip. As for their work hope the crown lasts 10-15 years as its supposed to or close. They have done my filling $350-450 didn't last very long 2 years. PS I have a shooting pain around the new crown. Hopefully just an irritated nerve - the worse $1700 down the drain, removal of the crown, root canal and a new one if possible. And they might have damaged the crown next to it. So stay away from them. They will just blame you, take no responsibility for their work and threaten to sue you! read more
