There are a number of reasons why the Culver City location was so much better, but perhaps the main drawback at this LA location is the fact that the former had a real sense of ambiance, and uniqueness, particularly when it came to its cozy little cafe section. Now the "cafe" is pretty much just a space within a space. Another real draw to the Culver City location was the fact that they actually had a separate section where "Guest Chefs" could come in and teach entire classes via cooking classes that sometimes you have to sign up for in advance, and other times you could just kind of walk in on it. That was dope! And while the staff was friendly enough, and again ( don't get me wrong it's still a place that I will be back to to purchase much needed product), it's just an unfortunate reality that sometimes no....you can't duplicate the past.

It had a Cambro product that fit my needs so dropped into the local store to see if they carried or could at least order. I asked a sales clerk about it, showed him the website with model number, but he wasn't sure if it would be available. He asked for my name and number to follow up so I gave him a business card. I have a hard time believing he NEVER called me back. I think CR does have a lot of products and it is fun to see all the toys we chefs like to play with. And yet as far as pizza is concerned I've been underwhelmed by their offerings for variety and depth. Now that's understandable. Not calling someone back is not understandable and on the verge of unforgivable. Of course it happens, but makes for such a poor reputation that why would you go back.

When I returned to my car, I noticed that one of the cups had a scratch on it. I walked back inside and told one of the guys, who immediately exchanged the cup for me. No questions asked! The only downside is their parking lot. The lot only has enough space for 4-5 cars and there are pallets around the entire perimeter of the lot. Since there is only one way in and out, you need to reverse out of the lot and into traffic if there is no where for you to park. While doing this, you also need to make sure you don't hit any of their pallets. Luckily, one of the employees helped direct me.

The donabe cooking vessel is the central item here. I long to buy one, but since I don't know much about them, I opted for the donabe cookbook (signed!) by the owner first and a stunning mortar and pestle. The service is very Japanese: very kind and grateful. We had no problem finding parking on the street. Prices seemed reasonable for the specific items. However, in making an investment of over $4000 on a "hobby," I was hoping to find a place to purchase equipment from that would give me proper guidance in setup and use. I was so fortunate to work with Matthew at the Coffee Machine Depot. It was a 5-hour round trip to get to the facility from San Diego, but it was worth every inch of the commute. Matthew worked with me for over two hours and spent time explaining the machine, giving me hands-on demonstrations, and offering further support once I got the machine home. While I was there, I saw countless employees working with numerous customers and spending a similar level of energy and helpfulness with them. I can't recommend this business or Matthew enough. They're incredible.
