This is a brief addendum update re my parents' final days and care given. Since I would not move…read morefrom the East coast to care for them, my parents utilized my 2 West Coast siblings both male. I had just started a job out East, and finally was able to fly in exactly 24 hours before she died. I was horrified at the size, dinginess depression of her " room". It was not clean, nor orderly- - like a middle income hospital room. Horrific! My siblings had flown in 3-4 days earlier looking for documents then left 2 days before she died. Mom had colon cancer her last 6 months and completely set up her hospice directive to remain in her apt at the end. She was the Office Mngr at the Scarsdale Medical Clinic and also had been their chief medical insurance mngr for 20 years. They lived in the Heathcote section of Scarsdale from 1958 to 1980. Dad was at Einstein. Years earlier mom had POA of Dad's elder cousin and had spoken up often re all inconsistencies problems with the cousin's care to mngt at the Care Center. She was not popular with them. Her last 3 months were terrible. They completely disregarded her directives and placed her with another woman in a tiny room. Three feet to a separating curtain, barely enough room on three sides. The fourth side with just enough room for 2 chairs. She never was in her own beautiful apartment as written in her hospice directive.... she was 100 % lucid, cognizant ( could not speak) to the end. She was having problems breathing through her open mouth, so I had the one ( male) nurse who had to monitor 2 floors solo in the Care Center, come and suction out her mouth/ throat. The rest of the staff were nurses aids. He rushed in, definitely not happy. Grabbed her hard, fast , lifting her under her head with one arm ( feet off the ground), then forced the nozzle into her open mouth suctioning for what seemed like forever! So long I felt she could not breathe! She also had a terrible fall 1 -2 years earlier and almost cracked her neck. So her neck was still fragile. He finally stopped and left. Her formerly peaceful breathing was now very very weak and she died an hour later. A COMPLETE horrific nightmare! Dad had an even worse ending 3 years later, also in the Care Center. He was living too long, over 103 years old. They decided to move him out of memory care where he had been over 3 years, into the final stage at the Care Center. He was very very healthy ALL his life, a doctor. The doctor prescribed him a medication and in 3 weeks he lost 25 pounds ( very tall, very thin always) and he suddenly died shortly after. I was informed of all this after he died. You MUST must have family locally who visit often....

I can only…read moreimagine this is where the beautiful perfumes of the world come from, because the fragrance is intoxicatingly prevalent. In our case, we immediately were transfixed by it as soon as we exited my Benz to view these incredibly perfect roses. What a magnificent sight to behold and scents to inhale! Paths and walkways, all lined with gorgeous roses. The roses are a wonderful perk for each resident, who receives a rose bush as a gift. For some, it appears they have more than one...labeled with their name(s) on them. The practice of each resident receiving a rose bush began when a lady who loved roses, and was an avid gardener, thought it would be a nice idea, so she turned the wheels to set the practice in place. How cool is that!?! I learned of this from some of the residents, who are very active outside with their walkers. Many came outside on this beautiful day to enjoy it, get some exercise, and chat with people such as the likes of us along the way. This is a retirement community. Everyone we talked to was so nice. They were happy and appeared to be very well taken care of. They all spoke of how much they love where they live. I've taken pics of some of the glorious standouts, but I highly suggest you view this beauty firsthand during this particular time in the Spring. I can't speak for the inside of the residences themselves, as the only thing I learned was what I gleaned from their website listed here. The video shows a glorious ocean-view environment for the very lucky residents. Apparently, a 1 bedroom, 1-1/2 bath with 753 square feet rents for $7,325.00 per month. "This is the place", they say. If you are an aging billionaire living in La Jolla, California. Enjoy the roses I've snapped for you and all the other beautiful flowers at Casa de Manana. It is truly a marvel.

It's quiet- it's clean, well maintained. Resort level landscaping. We enjoy walking this oasis and because it's 55+ there are benches you can stop and take a break if needed. Maybe you like to zip around this place like your pants are on fire ? You can do that too! I'll watch you zing by from my stop by the Bocci Ball, Horseshoes, Putting holes, and BBQs. Don't forget the 60' pool to swim and cabanas! This is an INDEPENDENT village (not a skilled care facility) with so many amenities! Salt water HEATED pool ? Check. Hot tubs always set on the right temp? Check. Movies? Art classes? Zumba? Water aerobics? Check. Check. Check. Check. Do you like holiday gatherings? Yep! Those too are included. So do as much, or as little interacting to your choosing. Randee (leasing) and Shanelle (activities director) and David (maintenance manager) are so welcoming and really take care of you. They work hard to make your new home a place you will want to stay. After all that said, we are on the young side of the 55+ age. We are realistic- and no place is absolutely perfect, but our little roomy casita is home; Not just a stop along the way. We looked for close to a year, almost bought a house twice, and explored ample beach communities, inland areas and desert towns. Casa Aldea is close to everything we wanted. And a 10-15 minute drive to LaJolla Cove ?? Sunset Cliffs, Mission Beach?? Sea World, Belmont Park, Fiesta Island?? Torrey Pines, Scripps Aquarium, The Gliderport? How about medical care? UCSD campus, offices and hospitals. One of the best places in San Diego ! It's hidden gem.

If you've ever looked in to retirement homes you know they're all pretty expensive, however, CV is very reasonable compared to other retirement homes we looked at especially for what's included. The ground here are well maintained and very modern and beautiful. My mom had a studio which was a nice size with two closets for ample storage. Enough space to maneuver her wheelchair around. The bathroom was a nice size as well. The door was wide enough to get a wheelchair through it and the shower was a walk in with now step so it was easy for her to access. I never ate here but my mom thought the food was really good. So did my dad. He would come visit my mom at dinner time aI can't say enough great things about the staff here! Aurora was so amazing. She went above and beyond to help us get into CV in a crunch for time. She was accommodating and she has a big heart for those in need. Illeen was the head nurse. She was so caring for every resident there. She knew everything about each residence needs and made sure they had it. She was so attentive and so was her staff. They were all on top of it all the time and showed each resident kindness, respect and compassion. Unfortunately, while my mom was a resident there, she had another stroke and went under hospice care. I didn't think CV would take her and I was going to have to put her in a skilled nursing facility. I was wrong. I messaged Illeen to give her a status on my mom and told her she needed hospice care and Eileen immediately responded that they would take her back and she could hospice at CV. They even arrange the hospice care for me. They in tandem with hospice, cared for my mom until her last breath and I couldn't be more grateful. If you or a loved one needs an excellent retirement home this is the place.

There were sugar and food crumbs in the kitchen cabinets, the microwave vents and stove were filthy with grease, there were ants in one of the toilets and the other one intermittently and randomly ran. And this was supposed to be move-in ready. I realized that I was feeling sick every time I stayed more than half an hour in the apartment, even with the sliding door open. Walking down the main hallway past the dining room, there was usually liquid or food on the floor. The garbage and recycling bins had food spilling down the front. It was just a very unclean place altogether. Then after I decided not to stay and went elsewhere, paying the required 30 days notice rent, a full year went by and then I got a collection notice in the mail for $186.00. This was without EVER hearing a peep from Atria until then. It took about five phone calls for them to actually tell me what the charge was for (one extra day apparently as I gave notice on New Year's). Karinna was kind and clearly cared about the welfare of the residents, but in every other way my experience was pretty horrifying.

The transport they supply requires that you're appointment be on a Monday because only one person can drive the van and he is the maintenance person who works in the Other facility In Los Angeles. Also they prefer your appointment is in the afternoon. Tell your doctor that!. I'll be writing more horrible stories because they never find solutions only excuses. What your told and what you get isn't even close to the truth. While I'm writing this review another resident who is always falling down just opened my sister's door and wanted to come in.
