In fact, I even went back to Houston several times before taking the plunge and trying a new guy in Phoenix. After doing some research online, and considering several barbershops, I decided to go with Barbershop Jack. Barbershop Jack is located on High Street in Desert Ridge. There's plenty of free parking either on the street, the surface lots surrounding the entertainment district, or the parking garage. Part of what I like about Barbershop Jack is that they're open on the later side for a barbershop. Which makes it easier with work and everything. It's a good looking and clean barber shop too. My barber is Nick. He's a friendly guy and he has done a good job cutting my hair. I brought him a picture of what I was looking for and he pulled it off. He asks you before he cuts a certain length, which is awesome. There's nothing worse than getting more hair cut than you told your barber. Nothing you can do at that point. Nick makes sure there's no risk of that. After your cut, they will put some hot lather on you, a warm towel on your face, and massage you with a back massager for 30 seconds or so. It's a nice touch. My only real complaint is that the haircuts aren't cheap at $45 a pop. I researched 4 other barbershops and Barbershop was the second most expensive. With your tip, you're paying a pretty penny for a haircut. I understand part of it is the location. While I wish their rates were a little cheaper, they do a good job. And after your fresh cut, there are plenty of bars and restaurants in the area if you'd like to make an evening out of it.

Another reason I like this place is that I can just walk in and if need be wait a little while before they can get to me. Like another 2 inches higher than my original line. I told her I didn't want an undercut, I showed her photos before she started cutting, & she chopped me UP. She was bouncing the razor off my head in every direction, she wasn't clipping sections of my hair out of the way. I asked her why she ran the razor so high she snapped "You SAID you wanted it buzzed " I was staring at the bare sides of my head & she said "It'll grow back." Another stylist came over & nagged at me, insisting my girl couldn't buzz it properly because the clippers are too big & that I'm not a professional stylist so I don't know how hair works. I told her that was ridiculous & she should know how to use her own tools. While I battled the 2nd stylist, my girl stood off to the side scoffing & rolling her eyes & snickering. Maybe it was nervous laughter. But she clearly made a mistake & neither one of them could be professional & just fix it, they wanted to argue it away. I told them both I wanted her to clean it up, & I wanted to leave. I had to ask her to blow dry my wet hair, she was pushing for me to get out of her chair like I had done something to HER. I was even about to pay & she told me to just go. I didn't even raise my voice or stomp out, I was trying so hard to keep it together. That "It'll grow back" comment really stung. Not something I want to hear a professional hair stylist say after they've destroyed my mop. I highly recommend avoiding this salon.
