The experience left me with unanswered questions and significant frustration, so I asked my primary care physician for a referral and was sent to Dr. Morris Hanan. Dr. Hanan's office scheduled me within a week (we coordinated timing so my most recent test results were available). I came prepared with records, test results, and many questions. Rather than simply accepting the prior diagnosis, Dr. Hanan carefully reviewed my information and asked thoughtful questions about why I believed I had that condition. After evaluating everything, he explained that he was not convinced the original diagnosis was correct and outlined a more measured approach. He recommended a structured dietary plan (lean white meats and cooked vegetables/fruits, avoiding fried foods) and asked me to track my intake and symptoms. Within days, I experienced noticeable improvement. While I am still in the evaluation process, the progress has been encouraging. What stands out most is his responsiveness. He has personally returned my follow-up calls promptly to clarify questions and provide guidance. In my most recent call, he advised gradual reintroduction of foods while continuing to monitor symptoms and suggested a follow-up visit in a few weeks. I appreciate his thoughtful, evidence-based approach and his willingness to reassess assumptions rather than immediately labeling a diagnosis. His staff has also been professional and efficient. If you are looking for a gastroenterologist in Tampa, I would recommend Dr. Hanan.

He is always kind, sincere, and takes the time to truly listen. He explains everything clearly and never makes you feel rushed. I'm a business professional myself, and I know firsthand how difficult it is to find and retain good people these days. That said, my visit today was seamless. I arrived at 12:50 for a 1:00 appointment and was out by 1:30. The entire staff was extremely friendly, welcoming, and professional. I should have written this review a long time ago. After reading some of the negative reviews, I feel compelled to say this: people need to be patient. You don't know what another patient may be dealing with, and personally, I don't want a doctor who rushes through appointments. He offered to pay out of pocket. She said no because you have insurance. Well in their system we don't, so what's the difference who pays?! Dr. Canton, Deana is condescending and extremely rude to your patients. She is not putting your patients wellbeing in mind. We will not be returning after being so treated so badly.

I've never felt rushed in my visits and I always get the impression he truly cares about his patients. When I've needed to be referred to specialists he's always selected good ones for me. I was very concerned that I would have to delay three biopsies that had been moved up due to the results of recent diagnostic tests. Walgreens and CVS was booked solid, as was MedExpress and other urgent care facilities. I called Dr. Davis's office to get an appointment, but he would not see me. His office directed me to a specific facility for a COVID test, but it was $179. It would be covered at 100% with a doctor referral. I called Dr. Davis's office back and he refused to write me a referral - claiming that he hadn't seen me since last January, before the pandemic. I inquired with Moffitt, my gynecologist and cardiologist--my PCP was the only one that could write the referral. None of them understand why I had been denied, neither does my insurance company. I paid for the test and I am positive for COVID. It's not the money that is upsetting, it's the fact that I had to look all over town for testing feeling very ill. Also, that I have COVID and have to push out three very important biopsies - the stress of all that and that I have an unconcerned PCP. Or did. I have to look for a new one now - in the midst of being sick with COVID and facing possible cancer. I am still in total shock as to how I was treated. I even called back to ask why, but the doctor's assistant was uncaring and tried to justify their response even after I explained my situation again. She put the blame on Dr. Davis. It is incorrigible and I am left devastated by the experience.

I am being excessively generous with the second star here and the only reason I am giving two is…read morebecause I like Dr Carlson. He's a very nice person and the staff in his office are also pleasant. But from a quality of care perspective, you should find another primary care physician. I made my appointment as a new patient a year ago. As is the case with US healthcare, I had to wait months for my appointment. My initial appointment, even though I had health concerns, was mostly just a meet and greet and filling out paperwork, including records request for prior doctors and specialists. And that was it. Paid a copay, and they billed my insurance company. Second visit was 4 months or so later. This was to give Dr Carlson time to review prior records. When I showed up, again, no exam at all. Dr Carlson spoke briefly about the records he received and wanted to send me out for blood work, even though I had blood work already. Turns out they didn't receive records from everyone, including a specialist who had just done an extensive blood panel a month or so prior. So, Dr Carlson sent me on my way while they attempted to get that paperwork. Had me schedule another appt in 4 months. Copay and insurance billed again, for nothing. Fast forward to this past week and my last appointment. Dr Carlson spent most of the time talking about all of the data he received from the specialist. And while he did ask me if I had any health concerns, he told me my questions were good ones for the specialist and I should ask him. He also suggested getting another opinion on my issues. But that was it. Once again, no exam. However, this time he said he was going to bill this as my annual physical because then I won't have a copay. I don't know why I didn't say anything then and there. I should have. But that's 3 visits. 3 times billing my insurance company and two copays. And one of them billing as an annual physical without giving me any type of exam. What kind of doctor or medical practice is this? How do you have me come in 3 times without giving me any kind of exam? Apparently, they are just here to bill your insurance as much as possible. People come to primary care doctors specifically to help find any issues early, but you can't detect issues in advance of them becoming problems if you don't conduct basic health exams. Moreover, the visits he had me come for could have all been handled in advance of any visit. The office could have contacted me at any time before my first visit to have me fill out records releases. And if any records didn't show up timely, they could have contacted me to follow up with those other doctors. That would have eliminated the need for those first two visits. Instead, they were inefficient - presumably because they just wanted to needlessly and endlessly bill my insurance. Anyway, long story short, Dr Carlson is a nice man and maybe a good doctor, but the way this practice is run is horrible. It's clearly more about billing your insurance and collecting your copay than it is about your health. Don't waste a year of your life like I did. Go somewhere else for your PCP needs.
