I recently signed up for an adult ballet class, and while the instructor said, we could just wear socks, I definitely feel like I've benefited from purchasing some real shoes. I've walked by this Capezio store multiple times without even realizing it is there. But it was there in my hour of need! Speaking of hours, their hours are a little bit tough to work with I believe 10 AM to 6 PM. I did stop by a few times at 10 AM and no one was around yet, but they definitely are open in the afternoons. The inside has way more merchandise than the small exterior hint at. And the owner definitely knows his dance shoes. He measured my feet and brought it out several options for me to try. All told, it only took me 10 minutes to get a new pair of ballet slippers, which I have been loving so far. Prices are slightly higher than what you would find online, but the service and immediacy of getting your shoes and the option to try on different styles and sizes makes up for the slightly higher prices. read more

Stores to purchase shoes for dancers are a bit hard to come by in the bay area. We were so happy to find this little gem in Cupertino. We made an appointment for a point shoe fitting and we were in and out the door very quickly. I visited this dance store for the first time today and had a great experience. It's located in Main Street Cupertino, with a good amount of parking right outside, though you may need to park at one of the bigger lots when it's busier. The shop is relatively small but don't let that fool you as there's lots of shoes in stock, the owner helped me with a fitting in the back alongside shelves of dance shoes. I tried on multiple pairs of character shoes and jazz sneakers, which he provided a variety of styles in. He also had good size availability and was informative about materials and fit. They mostly carry Capezio shoes, though I also saw some Bloch on the shelves. There was no charge for the fitting. This is a good choice for a higher quality dance store in the area. read more

Came in on a Saturday, they were accommodating and found my child's correct jazz shoe size quickly. However, taking away two stars for the implemented mask rule. When asked if we have a mask, I told them no and they offered me one. However, while checking out my 5 year was uncomfortable (with the heat and the store is not the largest) kept pulling his mask down. The young woman checking us out (clearly 6 feet away) kept giving reminders for him to keep it on. Seems a little overdramatic. read more

Well this was a pretty poor experience. Don't expect any smiles, enthusiasm, or effort at this Capezio. I brought my child here for her first pair of ballet shoes, and as a lifelong dancer myself, I've been pretty excited for this day. Needless to say, I needed a mask, which once I told her we didn't have one the "Droopy" character asked if we'd want one of theirs. Well we're here, so yeah. Then my 2.5 year old was asked to follow "Droopy" to the back where my husband and I cheerfully brought her and my daughter was told to sit down on a bench. "Droopy" put these adult size pantyhose on her feet then measured her and asked her to stand up and put her weight on her heel. And I'm thinking to myself "I don't think she realizes she's all of 2 and a half years old..." But I go along with it and try to get my daughter to get her foot in the sizer correctly. She brings her one pair of shoes "Bloch" (and $9 cheaper online BTW) which I know is a good brand so I just go along with it. Then asks my daughter how they feel and by now I'm like "well she's two and a half, so I don't know how much of an answer you're gonna get with no experience in trying on ballet shoes." Then I need a leotard. Oh boy. I finally had to ask one of the girls to help me find something that's the equivalent of a 3T and I'm pointed in the direction (where all the leotards obviously are) and to look for an extra small. I'm so sorry, I had to stop them from sorting inventory. Finally one helps me and thankfully it was the cheaper of all the others I kept looking at in reaching distance. All sales are final so I had to go try her leotard on in the filing room aka changing room. Why'd I stick it out? Dance starts in two days and ballet slippers can be tricky to get the size right on. Everything is a little more expensive than the prices you see online, but again... Unless you know your size, you're kinda stuck going to a capezio or equivalent. What's really bad is I recognized the ancient red pointe shoes in the back and the store owner's name on a business card as I was getting my hand written receipt from the 80s and realized this was the same place I used to come to as a kid with an equally meh experience. I've been a dancer most of my life, but took a hiatus when my son was born, took up running and now do marathons. 7 years ago was my last performance, my last class, my last plies and developpes. Fast forward to the beginning of October this year, when my alma mater ballet company asked us alumni to perform in the Nutcracker Ballet. In just TWO MONTHS. I headed straight to Capezio! Patrick and his dedicated team of young ballerinas helped me out. A new professional shoe fitting- my feet had grown wider when I had my son, and who KNEW about elastic ribbons?! They were all so kind to me, I truly imagined that they would be laughing or not taking seriously about a 40+ year old lady/ mom with pixie short hair who wanted to be "back on pointe". Au Contraire! They treated me like an older sister, a friend who they hadn't seen in a long time. I now am understudying both Waltz and Snow ON POINTE, something I never imagined possible. I have a lovely black zip-front/ lace back leotard as well from Capezio that enhances my womanly /runner figure, and if I don't say so myself, I look pretty bad-arse in my new "kit" (we marathoners use that term for outfit). They are taking GREAT care of me. I am happy to recommend this store and the professional staff to anyone at any level in their ballet career. They treat everyone nicely, with respect and a knowledge of feet and shoes that is amazing. I have high arches, very flexible feet and ankles and "break" my shoes quickly. They fitted me in a PERFECT pair of Bloch's, and I'm returning to purchase more for the show now. PRO TIP: Visit the store first to check out the merchandise and shoes, and BOOK a time for a professional pointe shoe fitting. They will fit you or your dancer with a keen and discerning "eye". And they know the likes/ dislikes of each school and teacher in the Bay Area. My teacher is very "old school", so it's black or dark leotards (no flashy flash please), no Gaynors (I know, that's a wholeeeee nother topic), and no bulky warmup or cover clothing. Love having a dedicated dance shoes / clothing store. We've been customers for many years, and it's so nice to just walk in, get what we need, and walk out - all in a few minutes. The staff is very knowledgeable. I also like that they know the "requirements" for the various local dance studios. I have shopped here several times and had positive experiences each time. The person working there (not sure if he is the owner) was kind, patient, and helpful. The prices are what you would expect from a physical retail store. They aren't overpriced if you take Amazon out of your price expectation equation. And yes, it is a smaller store, but we have always found what we needed and then some. Support small businesses. FINALLY a dance store that knows their stuff! I came here today on the recommendation by my dance teacher Jenny G. to check out their tap shoes. I was very much impressed with their selection and helpful service by Beth. When I arrived I was immediately asked if I could be helped. Explained I needed tap shoes for a class and Beth showed me two different types, Capezio and Bloch. She measured my feet (which is not a service you get these days!) and determined my correct size. She brought out two shoes, one more expensive and the other one a little more economical in price. I tried both on and fell in love with the more expensive one (of course!!) I figured my feet won't change size and I will be using these regularly until I am 85 years old, I might as well go for the more expensive ones. They were like wearing slippers with taps Ha! Ha! Beth rang me up and seemed to know her stuff! There was a buyer in the store working with the store manager and she was asking Beth's input on products and what sells and what she likes and doesn't like. Beth really knows this store and the inventory and it was nice to find someone who could finally help me. So for that I am grateful and I will be going back. I went to the one in Valco mall since it's much closer than the one in Mt. View. First before I went ahead I gave them a call and it was some guy who picked up the phone and he was somewhat nice. So I went there, there was a guy sitting ( I assume he was the one who picked up my call) and one girl - the sales assistant. When I told him that I called earlier asking about jazz dance shoes, he immediately gave an insulting look to me. You know when someone gives you a look from top to bottom trying to judge/analyze you? Well he gave me one. I try to ignore that feeling/thought and asked for what I need. He simply just gave me very short explanation about Bloch shoes and the other one (they only have 2 kinds). Other than that, he was just enjoying his nice conversation with his assistant. He didn't ask how I felt, let alone if I was interested to buy one. Seriously dude, if you're reading this, you sure gotta change your attitude, get rid of your ignorant attitude and start value your customer, otherwise I can assure you're going bankrupt since competition is really tough these days. FYI, after I purchased the shoes, I went strolling the mall, guess what, Payless also carried ballet/jazz shoes for only 27 bucks!! ( I paid 40 bucks from this ignorant store). I have no idea what these other bad reviews are talking about. I walked in, and was promptly helped. It is NOT expensive or overpriced. Their prices are the exact same as the Capizio website, and this way I got to try them on first. They weren't trying to up-sell anything other than what I wanted. They had the exact character shoes, ballets, and fishnet tights I needed in my size and correct color. I was in and out in less than ten minutes and the girls working were pleasant and helpful. I bought pair of jazz shoes ($40) and foot undies for lyrical at this Capezio's. The service was decent, a smile and "Hello" when I walked in. The high school girls working there brought out the shoes in my size, let me test them out on their mini stage with mirror on the side. The leotards, although good quality are a little too pricey for me, so I primarily stick to shoe purchases here. For me leotards you can buy anywhere but your dance shoes are a far more crucial purchase and this Capezio's doesn't disappoint. Right when I walked inside the man working there asked me if I needed any help. He measured my daughter's feet. Then he let her try on the BLOCK ballet shoes. She said it was a little tight so he adjusted it for her. We ended up buying the ballet shoes here. I also asked him if they have tap shoes. He said no but we can order them. I told him that I need it right away. He walked to the next store and asked them if they have it. Then he came back and told me that they have it next door and they do sell it there. So here's the deal - I've done ballet for awhile as well as dabbled in other kinds of dance as an adult and I have had fine service here. The issues are largely with 1. people who are beginners and/or; 2. people who do not do ballet. Capezio is largely ballet but is more than adequate in other disciplines (ie. jazz/lyrical, modern, ballroom, etc.). It's a very tiny space they have (about the size of a SF studio apartment - seriously) so don't expect them to have an extensive range of merchandise that isn't ballet. Anytime you start an activity that requires special shoes and has participants speaking what sounds like a foreign language is going to be scary and I think a lot of people project that into these reviews. Again, as someone who started ballet late, don't be afraid to ask questions and to tell people you're a beginner or if you're a dance parent. Places like this literally thrive on your desire to dance so it's not in their interest to put you off. A word about teenagers - they are not the most sociable of people and this is a mall job. At least for ballet dancers, they start getting more serious when they're about 9, if not younger. That means that by the time they can legally work (15?), they've had a few years of dancing under their belts. You don't really get that kind of intimate training for teenagers in most jobs teens are qualified for. While I've seen them carry on conversations and do things most teens do, I haven't met one here that was ever outright rude or incompetent (ie. cussing in front of little kids, dressing inappropriately, was really ignorant about shoes, etc.). If it truly bothers you that much, speak to someone in charge. A word for dancers: though I have not inquired about it, Gaynor Minden lists this place as having certified fitters their shoes. It looks like the place to go if you don't want to trek to SJ or the city. read more

My family has been long-time customers of Capezio for a reason! The staff is always really helpful, and genuinely want their customers to have the best fit possible. Main Street Capezio is my personal favorite establishment, as the staff there in particular are really friendly and knowledgeable. Katilyn helped me fit my pointe shoes. She's an incredible dancer and a charismatic person, and her instincts and judgement are spot-on. It's almost scary how she can basically look at your feet and find the perfect shoe -- she's been a pointe dancer since she was a teen, and her experience really does show. She's the one that's given me some life-saving tips and tricks, too. I don't have as much personal experience with the other saleswoman, Allie, but I've seen her with other customers. She's always eager to help her customers in any way she can, and she's friendly and approachable. She, too, is an experienced dancer, and is always happy to share a bit of helpful advice. All Capezio staff members are a perfect mixture of professional and friendly, and always warmly greet and attend to customers. The store itself offers a wide variety of leotards, shorts and skirts, accessories, and more importantly, an impressive selection of shoe styles. Service is excellent and products are very high quality! I immediately recommend Capezio to anyone that asks! C'mon Yelp, where's the 6-star option? read more

I went in to buy my daughter some new jazz shoes as she has grown out f her old ones and loves the slip ons from Capezio. I decided to make the drive down to Cupertino, as she needed them sooner than later. I get to the store tell them the size I need and make my purchase the girl that was there at the time gave me a 10% instructor discount I was a happy camper. I get home to find that they are still not quite rite in the size so I grab my daughter and head back over the bridge and head back. I get there and it is a different girl, okay np I have my receipt. I exchange the slip ons for the correct size. My daughter wants these shorts for class so I like OK will you honor the 10% off. She says NP as its their policy to give instructors this discount. Here is where it gets ugly. The shorts are 16.99 my discount was.....$0.16.. yes 16 cents and when I tried to explain to her that that was incorrect she argued with me and said well that how I learned to do it. OKAY WELL YOU LEARNED WRONG! I said forget it paid for them and was like ummm did you pass 6th grade? If the tax rate is almost 10% and that is 1.54 then how can my discount be only .16 cents??? She refused to change it which was fine.... Here is the kicker I spend over 700.00 a year in dance shoes and apparel... Looks like their loss.... I wont be going back. Place is VERY tiny. I had such a hard time finding it that I needed to call them and have them guide me to it. They have very limited shoe wear..well shoes sizes. I'm a women with a very small foot. Some of my shoes are children's sizes..they didn't carry my size in tap shoes. Hm ok. Well I still needed ballet shoes. She gave me two sizes, tried in one, was way tight tried in another and it was still a little tight. The girl said they'd stretch when broken in, so I bought them. I had to go buy my tap shoes elsewhere (San Jose dance wear on race street...I wrote a review on them too, check it out). So I wore my ballet shoes for my first dance class and my gosh my feet hurt! There's no way those ballet shoes were going to stretch out enough to be comfy. So I called them and asked if we could work something out even with store credit or honestly anything because I trusted the girl selling me the shoes who fitted me "or supposed to fit me" and the ballet shoes were $35. The girl who I talked to to understood and said I'm sure we can fix this..well the owner said nope because they were worn. Okay I get it but you would think the guy would give me a discount on my next purchase or something. Nope, nothing. Well I will NEVER go back here or recommend anyone to this place because if my experience and because if there inventory. I went there today and got my daughter's very first pointe shoes. A month ago when I went there to ask about the process, they asked me to take an appointment for the fitting so I did. Katie helped us. She spent 55 minutes on her fitting. She was super patient, and she wasn't really selling anything. Her main goal was to make sure the shoes were comfortable for my daughter. They have a barre and a mini dance floor along with a mirror. And Katie asked my daughter to do a few basic steps and she was testing on different parts of the foot to make sure it fit correctly. I think she tried well over 10 pairs of shoes before she was comfortable recommending us the right one. Even her colleague was helping and bringing more shoes and the supporting pads when Katie was asking for them. On top of that - both Katie and her colleague seemed so genuinely happy being part of our special day. Anybody who trained for ballet and getting their first pointe shoes shows what that excitement is - and they were so part it. To top it off, they gave my daughter beautiful ballet posters as gifts to remember the day. How could it be any better? Thank you Katie! read more

Can I give this store no stars? Their customer service is awful and the store messy for being so small. When I went in to purchase my first pair of jazz shoes the person working looked annoyed to have to help me. However, all the while making me feel pressured into buying shoes that I wasn't happy with. I went in prepared with a list of shoes that I found online that were recommended for narrow feet. I would give this business a zero star. I just went into the store today looking for a pair of ballet and jazz shoes for my child, and the store owner was rude, obnoxious, and disrespectful. We were not greeted or welcomed with a smile. After we tried the first pair of shoes, the owner started pressuring us to make a purchase. He was unabashed about it and kept demanding to know whether I was going to be "making any purchase today". I found it interesting at first, and ignored him initially. But, he kept amping up the pressure, and I informed him that we will see. He was condescending towards me when I was stretching the ballet and jazz shoes to see how much room there was for growth. He took on a lecturing tone about how shoes should fit, and declared that standing as far back as he was, he could tell the shoes were too large but they were the right ones to allow for growth. I did not respond to him because he was being abrasive and unfriendly, and had made the assumption that I had no knowledge on how to fit a child with dance shoes. He took on an insulting tone because I ignored him, and asked me "did your child stop growing?". Once we found the right size for my child, I inquired about the pricing. Those shoes turned out to be ridiculously overpriced. I politely gave them back, and told my child that we will keep looking. The store owner immediately came around from the counter, stood menacingly in front of us, and started scolding me. He felt he was entitled to lecture me about getting "free sizing" and not making any purchase. I let him know that we were not having that conversation, and asked him to stop. He didn't. He kept on ranting, and I reminded him to be respectful towards his customers. He still wouldn't stop his accusations. I again told him to be respectful, and he needed to stop his behavior. I verbally told him that I was very clear that this conversation is not happening, and that he absolutely needed to stop. I must have said STOP five times in less than 1 minute. Then he retorted that I needed to be respectful to his store. At which point, I stood up and let him know that if he was expecting every single customer coming through his store to make a purchase, then he is in the wrong business. And I let him know that the shoes were overpriced. I had certainly lost any interest in buying anything at that point even if it was priced decently. He actually wanted to continue chastising me, and was about to say more about "respecting" his store, but I stopped him mid-sentence and let him know that he will be receiving a bad review on Yelp. His come back was that he didn't read those reviews. And I pointed it out to him that he may not read Yelp, but he certainly knew what it was, and there are million of customers who do read Yelp reviews. He finally realized his mistake, and remained silent. There was no further retort from him. I reminded him that just because he was having a bad sale day, he didn't get to take it out on his customers. I would NOT recommend going to that store even if you were desperate in getting dance supplies. There are plenty of other retail store in the area that has far superior customer services, and no one gives their customer a hard time because they are not making a purchase on that day. The proper response would have been: "Thank you for coming, we hope to see you again!". Acting entitled, putting his customer down, and expecting customers to hand him money for overpriced items is just a reflection of how out of touch the owner is with retail and customer service. read more

What a frickin' misnomer for a store name! The sales assistants there are also very young and have little to no knowledge about ballroom shoes. Although the young girls that were working got me the shoes I asked for and informed on what was in stock or out, they were no help from that point forward. I have purchased dance sneakers for several years, all of them at this store. Originally, it was because a fellow dancer recommended Capezio dance sneakers for our dance style, and this was the closest place that sold them. About once a year I go in and ask for what I want, and usually they are out of my size, so they offer to order them for me, which I take them up on and within 1 week I have my shoes. I've always received pleasant service, and feel no pressure to purchase anything, though perhaps it helps that I know what I want before I walk in the door. In addition, they give me a 10% teacher's discount. That's worth 4-5 stars. This past year, I tried Block dance sneakers for the first time, and a few weeks ago the soles split on both shoes. I assumed it was time to buy new ones and went to this store to buy a new pair (Capezio this time). The owner, Patrick, overheard what had happened with the Blochs and asked me to bring them in. I did, he looked at them and decided it was a defect (not due to wear-and-tear) and gave me a new pair -- without me even hinting that I wanted replacements. Now *that's* 5-star service! read more

Patrick is the best. I have gone to his store for about 30 years. A family at my studio lost their house in a fire and he was happy to donate brand new tap, ballet and jazz shoes to both girls.
