The grounds are well-maintained and beautiful on the campus of Kean University. I attended an independent authors expo to support my favorite former high school teacher (who is now a children's book author). The area where the event was held has a huge parking lot. The signage was a little confusing as far as instructions to/from various buildings. So, I did get lost, twice lol but it did not bother me. I wish I could give zero stars. I graduated from Ocean County College and American Institute with my CMA. With that being said, I have knowledge on facilities, and have dealt with financial aid for other schools. This facility is one of the most unaccommodating and professional schools I have been enrolled in. I attend the Ocean campus but most of my complain is regarding staff members at the Union Campus. To start off, I have tried to contact the financial aid office for varies reasons. The answers I received were little to none, and this is only if I went to the person in office. I had tried to step into the office to speak to someone and they told me she would be in later. I went back later and they told me she is now working from home? I sat with the admin while she spoke to the financial aid advisor and was the messenger between us; this was very unprofessional. I had paid for my year in full (fall and spring of 24&25), and I checked my account status weekly if not daily to review it and make sure there were no changes. Over winter break of 2024, they had randomly charged me $642.00. I had reached out to the financial aid department to ask for some clarity over these charges. At this point I had already received my refund for the fall semester so I was very confused how this was not taken from the left over money I had in my account but instead placed onto my account over winter break once the semester was officially over. The fall semester now being over is still debting me with this charge, and I had yet to receive an email back from the department. The charge does not have a title, an explanation, or any clarification other than, "tuition." Secondly, I am enrolled in the education degree program. Once I got my student teaching placement I found it odd since it was the opposite of what I asked for. It was early on that I received my placement so I figured I would reach out to the lady in charge to ask about this placement. My email to her was friendly, respectful and very professional. Her response to me was, "Your placement is your placement." I am assuming she had zero answers to any of my questions regarding the placement since she lacked the ability to answer them. The email back to me was also after I had to follow up with her from my first email since she never responded to that either. I mentioned in the email that I understand that placements are difficult to set up and I acknowledged the hard work she put into it, and my main issue was not trying to change the placement but instead get a professional response from this staff member. From then on, I went to my classes and heard about everyone of my peers being happy and satisfied with their placement since it was exactly what they wanted or asked for. I felt unseen and unheard as my classmates were all exactly where they wanted and I was still trying to get an email back. I also had asked for a meeting with this lady or anyone above her since my questions could not be answered through email, clearly. I have yet to hear from this lady, (K.Grove of Union Campus). I had a meeting with one of the supervisors of the education department, which was mandatory for each student and not the meeting I was asking for in my emails. I had informed her of my issue and explained that I can and will go into my student teaching placement in a positive matter but now my issue just resides in the fact that I give this university thousands of my own dollars and they cannot even hire staff members who will be professional. She told me that K.Grove had not informed her of the emails or the issue and should would be speaking to her. The issue was not resolved as I am still waiting for an email back! I have never felt so unheard, and unseen as a student. I have compromised a lot of what I wanted and at this point would just be happy with a simple email back. I have been researching new universities and collages even if that means being behind but giving my money to a place of such immaturity is not going to happen. If you are planning to attend this school, GOOD LUCK because you will need it. I also wanted to mention Clinical 1 and Clinical 2 for education students of the senior level is mostly a set schedule. They give me my mandatory classes and I have no say in the days or times since it is all they offer. The only thing I can decide is the two days I will go to my site to student teach and they let me choose from Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Anyway, The courses and times they offer for my mandatory courses include, Monday and Thursday 12:30-3:15, and 4:15-7:15. Next I am on the site for 8:50am-3:30pm on Tuesdays and Fridays. My only other options include Wednesday and the weekend, and if I am filling those days will work I will have no time for homework, studying, hobbies ect. I am now running around trying ot find an early morning job or late night job. I am tired and broke:) read more

My time at Kean was nothing short of wonderful. Though- there is an unresolved issue and I am starting to become very disturbed. Kean seems to be too money hungry... In the Summer of 2023 both of my parents were diagnosed with Cancer. I had a summer course, but I could not take it due to circumstances. I logged onto a course or two and after realizing my mental could not handle it, I told the professor and appealed to dispute my bill as I did 0 course work. This was during a time where I had to be my parent's caretaker in Sloan Kettering NYC for two surgeries, simultaneously. My father passed March 2024 and after going through over 25 people and multiple departments, Kean refused to let my bill of $1,000 be disputed. They lie and say certain circumstances will allow you to get your money back but this is so untrue. I paid a lot of money to Kean and I planed on giving/going back one day. I just need my diploma. I worked hard through the loss of my father and my mother's diagnosis. read more

i did not really enjoy my time here. i was a transfer student and also a commuter, making it impossible to make friends. the commute is atrocious. the school is by the busiest intersections along morris ave. it takes so long just to get down the street. i don't know why they would build new apartments here too. i don't think the university is well organized at all. there aren't specified buildings for each major, which some people may think is good. but it means that my classes are all over the place and it also makes it even harder to make friends and meet people in your major. the communications department is one of the biggest majors yet it's stuffed into the 4th floor of one building. half of the buildings here are run down, and half are new. so you never know what you're gonna get. the professors overall however are the best part of kean. there are many very good professors. if you live in the area and you're looking for a place to get your degree for a decent price, i would recommend kean as an option. however if you commute and/or are looking for somewhat of a college experience, do not go here. i haven't dormed but i've heard mixed reviews. i've seen some of the rooms and some are so small. also, i don't know why we were voted #1 college food in the state. that's a lie. we have a few good well known chain restaurants on campus but sometimes i will have to wait an hour for the food. and it's just regular food. and i heard the dorm food is only alright. also the lesser known restaurants on campus are actually so bad. kean is not a party school so don't come here thinking that. the football team isnt good so don't think you're gonna be going to a lot of fun football games either. overall, i think kean has so much potential but there are so many flaws. like i said, if you live within 20 min and you're looking for something simple to just go to class and leave then i recommend it. other than that, i don't think it's worth your time. another thing is there is never parking. they've done some stupid things to try and 'help' but it doesn't work. they redid the parking lot and made the spaces smaller, making things less safe and more prone to accidents. they built a small parking deck across the street, which you have to take a trolley. most students are not going to be doing that, many classes are 9:30am, it's a commuter based school, on the busiest road in the town. walking to class is not even safe. people are so stressed about parking, i've almost gotten hit many times and have seen it almost happen too many times too. i could go on about the reasons kean has made things harder for me. if only i could work for kean and make these changes happen lol. overall i really do wish i chose a different school instead :/ but at least i have a degree i guess read more

So...why isn't there restroom access at the 24hr study area at the Kean University?? The commons.. I think that's what it's called...I was pulling an all-nighter (or at least I tried), but soon learned I was denied access to use the bathroom. This is not convenient for someone who is a commuter vs living on campus. Once you're there, that's it. And to add insult to injury, Kean, added a food vending machine within the space! So if you could provide food, why not access to a bathroom. Because even if the students have a choice to eat, they are definitely bringing some type of beverage like water to keep them hydrated while studying. If you female parts, consider going somewhere else to study; if you have male parts, I'm sure you can find a way to take care of "business". Just saying. read more

I graduated from Ocean County College in Toms River NJ and I transferred to Kean because they had a satellite campus at OCC. It was a struggle to get signed up and my academic counselors at the Kean/Ocean Campus were not that helpful. I am a veteran and my veteran liaison was horrible! Very difficult to reach and flat out lied to me one time about my GI Bill benefits. The professors I did have were great and the classes were enjoyable. But overall I did not like how I was treated by my Vet liaison who quite frankly did not care very much. I am an adult with a full time job and only after I enrolled for the semester did the shoe drop about the lack of classes online and in person for my major (sociology) at OCC campus. I was told I would have to travel to Union if I wanted to continue in the program. I transferred to NJCU Wall campus and could not be happier with their program. read more

I got accepted to the MSW program and was treated like a number it took three weeks for a registration error to be fixed because my advisor was literally ignoring me. She never called me back or replied to my emails. I contacted admissions twice and they referred me back to her both times!! Pathetic no one is working together and they are very hands off with their students. The registration problem got fixed and I wasn't even notified. I went to the orientation and that was when I realized the MSW program at "CANE" university was not a good fit for me. The professors emphasized that they were barely going to do anything unless we asked questions why am I going to pay over $60k for an MSW degree if you're not interested in teaching me anything? Then one of the professors was trying to make a point about cultural humility and respect for all people and made a very unprofessional and hurtful joke about suicide. He said if the students did not greet or respect their professors the students would be suicidal... What kind of toxic authoritarian attitude is that?! And this is someone who works in a social work program? I don't want to learn ANYTHING from him. The entire month that I was enrolled in that sloppy university no one could help me with setting up my email. No wonder during the orientation the professors kept emphasizing to not go to the chair of the department if there's an issue with a professor. Lmao they're a mess. They emphasized that several times during the orientation and even had a bullet point saying chain of command. The interim director of the department even warned the students to not go to the head of the department because they will be sent back to the professor. They talked to the students like they were children. I lost on a deposit but I rather lose that then over $60k for a poor education. read more

This is a great University to attend. For the most part, everyone is friendly . This campus has ALOT of places to get food including Auntie Anne's, smash burger and star bucks. I am a special education major and my advisor is not too friendly . One advice I can give is to keep copies of EVERYTHING you give the university. They tend to lose all your important paper work or say they never received it. You have to stay on them ! Other than that, Kean has some great professors and you get what you put in. Went to Kean for both my B.A. and M.A. Your experience is what you make of it; get involved, volunteer, become a student leader, join Greek life, etc. I had an amazing experience and learned a lot during my time here. Of course nothing is perfect, I had my fair share of classes/professors that I disliked but that is all a part of the process. Parking is always a hot topic here, make sure to get on campus early if you want to park on the main campus. If you get there around 11am parking will be scarce and you'll most likely have to park behind STEM or at East Campus. read more

They DO NOT GAF about students education NO ONE that works in ANY department ever has answers , they love sending you all over campus for NOTHING MOST of the people I went here with NO LONGER ATTEND I transferred to Stockton as did others, I know many that transferred to Rutgers , Willy P & Montclair . the only ppl I personally know that stayed are ppl who get much assistance . if it was free for me to go i probably would have stayed also. I cannot for the life of me understand why an establishment that makes so much money on tuition refuses to provide its students with even DECENTLY-comfortable seating and adult-sized desks. Unless you're in a lecture hall, you're forced to sit in hard, plastic chairs with holes in them and a half-sized attached desk that you have to fold open to get in and out of. You're shit out of luck if you're left- handed, because the desks are only attached on the right side of the chairs. There's barely any surface space to hold a single notebook let alone any room to rest your arm on. The rooms, especially in Hennings, are always either stifling hot or freezing cold - no in between. Literally people have been induced into medical episodes from the heat. Pretty much the only rooms with windows are the offices for faculty. That means you're stuck spending 3 hours in a hot room with no windows or ventilation, while bending in unnatural angles just to write or use a laptop on your desk (that is angled 45° from your midline). Do yourself a favor and bring neck and back pillows to class if you care about comfort. The only thing Kean guarantees by the time you graduate is a crank neck and advanced scoliosis. read more

The students have this bad habit of coming into the quiet study area and speaking/joking/laughing in a volume that is needed for an outdoor sports stadium... I don't get it, and I really haven't seen so much disrespect for other people's time before coming to Kean. read more

Been to a few events here. Parking can be a pain sometimes. Overall buildings are very nice. Union train station is in the far end of campus which is definitely a plus. Never took classes here but heard it's an overall pretty decent school. read more

Kean University has been my home for the last 6 years. I graduated here with a Bachelors in psychology and a minor in Biology. I then graduated there with my Masters in Occupational Therapy. Kean is on of the best educational institutions that provide quality professor and facilities for a great affordable price. The best advice I can give to any students is to make sure that you advocate for yourself, take advantage of scholarships and student organizations. These will facilitate your educational growth and experiences. Only you can make things happen! read more

Kean is horrible when it comes to caring about their students. They reel you in with the new buildings and scenic campus, until later when it's too late, you find out how much of a POS school it is. Don't get me wrong the professors are great, but the administration is trash. Not to mention the President Dr.Dawood, he is a cheat and a liar. First and foremost, he lied on his resume about having powerful connections. That's how he became president. He allocates student tuition for meaningless stuff. For example, spending $219,024 on a conference table!! Those funds could have been put to better use. As for example, using those funds to update the existing deteriorating buildings, or building a parking deck for students (good luck finding parking @ kean) Anyways this school has many problems ranging from their failing architecture school, to almost losing their accreditation not to many years back. This school offers no prestige as the workload is inexistente and/or easy. I would not recommend going here, go to a different school like Princeton, NJIT, Rutgers, Montclair, Seton Hall, Willy P, FDU, Rider, or Rowan. Don't waste your time and money here. If you are a full time employee where one's schedule is from 9-5 M-F, don't bother attending this college. It does not cater to your needs, the hours for the admissions building are horrible. The class options are thin, and at times force you to be here longer than what you need to be. Parking, I guess like any other college, is horrible. Advisors could only be contacted via email, and at times is a mission to get an answer. A horrible decision on my part for putting up with it. read more

Although the campus itself is somewhat decent, it is so not worth the stress attending this college as administration is REALLY unprofessional. The adults that work in this place appear to bring their personal "problems" to the job with them - particularly in the financial aid and student accounting department. Kean university has been the worst experience. I would transfer out as soon as possible without a doubt. Everything is all just a waste of money. The college has money to build new buildings and buy a $219,000 conference table but has no money for students in helping them with financial aid. Also, there was never a variety of food in the café. Always chicken with fries. Moreover, most professros are adjunt and not fulltime which means you are not getting the good quality of "world class education". They have a new campus in China which I think is ridiculous. It does not give any reputation to the college and it is mostly a "business" school. All our money is wasted on these buildings. Also, it is said that the president lied in his resume and he is still president. I would not trust a college where a president writes false statements in his C.V. There is also a lot discrimination in the college. You will see that the population of students/administration/and some faculty are mostly black. One professor would always ignore my emails and I was like WTF. If I were you I would not make an investment with Kean. Moreover, my option would be to leave Kean, go to a community college and then transfer to a good school like Rutgers, NYU, NJIT. For example, I went to Bergen CC then to Nyu. I tried out kean but when I saw all of the falsity I immedialty went to nyu. Do not go to Kean. Period read more
