Beach

Huge beach just off the highway. Plenty of places to park and set up for the day. The only problem is that this is definitely a surf beach. The waves are a bit too high to go out and waddle and snorkel. You should go to tunnels for snorkeling. However, there are excellent facilities for when you are done with the beach. Also plenty of picnic tables for gatherings. There's also a nice boardwalk that passes through here with lots of people walking/running/cycling by.

Beautiful beach to people watch, surfer watch, or just take in the beauty. Strong current so not a swim beach unless a strong swimmer.

Beautiful day

This beach is my oasis..it is beautiful, family friendly...and has a beautiful vibe. I have met so many wonderful people here just hanging out and enjoying the atmosphere. When you are visiting Kapaa take the time to stop here and enjoy a picnic or a swim. It's an awesome place to share the day with everyone you meet.

Gratitude... Appreciation along with Revelations... Be still... Be quiet... Reflect... I'm telling myself. Is this the most presitine beach... No... But when you face the ocean, like my brethren and sistren do any where on the coast in any land. It transforms you... Each sunrise, brings blessings to see yet another day. Yet another start, another reset... The Artwork here, can liberate your soul, if you're still enough... If I'm still enough. Signed, Sunrise Chasing

Kealia Beach is located right off of the highway and is probably the most easiest to access. This beach offers a long strip of sandy areas for tanning and pavilions to picnic and grill. In addition, this is one of the few beaches you actually have a nice paved trail/sidewalk that stretches for a nice distance for your walk, run or biking. The rip currents here are high and ideal for the small to middle level surfers and swimming is highly discouraged. A lifeguard is on duty here. Perfect for a stroll along the coastline, grilling your favorite burgers and observing the surfer dudes get wiped out by the waves!

Stopped in to do swimming but the waves were kicking and the rip current had a red flag warning. It's beautiful but I wasn't sending my kids out at least not on this day.

Riding the boardwalk just north of Kealia Beach.

This beach isn't amazing but it's great when the weather is bad on the north shore. We found we could drive 30 minutes from Hanalei and be on a beautiful sunny beach. It was fun to watch the surfers and body boarders on this beach. We also loves renting bikes and riding the board walk all the way down to Kaapa. We wouldn't want to hit up Kealia everyday but it was good when we needed sun and the north shore was rainy.

Great beach with an awesome bike/running/walking trail. Views are top notch. Friendly people also willing to take your pictures.

Danger. Sharks, jelly fish, dangerous surf, angry locals. . Just keep driving. Go to Lydgate beach park, or poipu :)

I stumbled upon this beach as it has been unusually cloudy in Poipu (go figure).

Initially coming here to kill a little time before a reserved tour, my wife and I really admired…read morethe planning and execution of the building/landscaping of this family park. Named after a pillar in the community who came to Kauai in the late 19th century, Lydgate Beach Park is 62 acres, with the Lydgate Park pathway encompassing 2.5 miles, a small part of the much larger Ke Ala Hele Makālae costal trail. There is plenty of parking, with both dedicated surface lots and street parking on the paved road. We immediately noticed surfers on electric surfboards out pretty far, even on this windy day. At the northern part of the park is where most people gather, close to modern facilities and a manned lifeguard station and a large covered event area with plenty of parking. Closer to the shore, we saw a seal just lying on the land, bathing in the sun, completely ignoring the people milling by. The very large safe man-made swimming/tide pools are great for the kekei and others, with constant refreshing of sea water over the lava rocks. There are picnic tables nearby as well with a lot of green space. My favorite feature are the man-made protected swimming pools, What I loved about it was how spread out everything was, with so many amenities. It just never felt crowded, even if a lot more people came. As we were leaving, my wife mentioned that Lydgate Beach is one of those rare parks where an ocean-loving family would intentionally live close by, just to be near this park.

Hands down probably the best Beach park and kids playground in the world with both combinations…read more Has a very large covered area for groups and events. Smaller covered area for public rental and reservations. 2 playgrounds next to each other. One very extensive and large playground mostly wooden and older. The other one is more modern, "smaller". Recently they added more shaded areas over parts of that playground. Lots of parking, great beach area.

I visited the Wailua Falls in Līhuʻe, Kauaʻi, Hawaii [Maalo Rd; Hwy 583] on Saturday, 01/24/26,…read morearound 3:30 PM. Wailua Falls offered an incredibly close view, which made the experience feel special. I was able to truly appreciate the waterfall's beauty up close. One fun highlight was spotting a rooster sitting right near the edge, which was such a classic Kauaʻi island moment because roosters are everywhere on the island. I also noticed a touching memorial sign dedicated to Kavika Luna, "Mr. Aloha" - The Flying Hawaiian (May 1960 - September 2024). The message spoke about rainbows appearing as he chanted and the magic of Wailua Falls coming alive. It felt meaningful because I actually caught a mini rainbow during my visit, which made the moment even more breathtaking and memorable. Overall, I was very pleased with this stop. Wailua Falls is absolutely worth checking out for its natural beauty and history.

First stop when we got to Kauai as it was 10-mins away from the airport…read more First impressions, parking is difficult as the road is narrow because of the cars parked on the side allowing a car to pass at a time. Smelly as I'm sure kids at night are drinking in this area and peeing wherever they like. However, the view of the falls is worth it. I do wish they would cut down some of the weeds as it was a bit tall. Luckily, a fellow tourist that took our family photo was tall and so he was able to capture a photo of us and the fall. I do recommend visiting but just know that the parking is chaotic. Oh, and it is free.

I wish I could give zero stars…read more Our stay started off on the wrong foot, and unfortunately, it set the tone for the rest of our trip. We checked in, and right away, the room wasn't impressive. There was a strange scent lingering in the air--like something was being covered up with multiple plug-ins. Everything felt dated: the furniture, the decor. The kitchen looked decent with updated appliances, but that was about it. We tried to brush it off and went to the pool (which looked much smaller in person than in the photos), then came back to the room. That's when the real nightmare began. My youngest daughter went to take a shower in one of the bathrooms. Moments later, I hear screaming. I run in and see sewage--yes, actual dark, smelly sewage--coming up from the shower drain. My daughter is crying, I'm shaking, and the stench is overwhelming. We immediately called the front desk, and someone was sent to "unblock" it. I begged the manager to move us to another room due to the smell and potential health hazard, and all he said was: "There are no rooms. You can check out, or stay and we'll send housekeeping." Excuse me? This isn't a spilled drink--they're talking about cleaning up sewage with a mop? I asked if they planned to professionally decontaminate the area, and the answer was no. Just their regular housekeeper. It wasn't until I was clearly desperate--three kids, nighttime, a trip we booked months ago--that they finally offered to send us to their sister hotel for one night. But we'd have to pack up, drive there, then return the next day--basically waste precious time and energy. This was a special occasion trip. We paid extra for an ocean view, and it was supposed to be an anniversary celebration. And to make things worse, nobody seemed to care. The manager responded with a condescending tone like I was overreacting. He actually said, "These things happen once in a blue moon." Okay--then have a plan for when they do! It honestly felt like he thought he was doing me a favor by offering a one-night refund or a small room at a different hotel. No real apology. No accountability. Just a lot of shrugging and gaslighting. We ended up staying, but were only refunded for one night. The second bathroom was out of commission (we didn't feel safe using it), so our whole family had to share one shower for the rest of the trip. The awful smell never fully left the room. Also--the in-unit washer and dryer? The washer smelled horrible, was full of sand, and looked like it had mold in the plastic lining. Just gross. This whole experience left a horrible taste in our mouths. I honestly don't understand how this place is being managed. If the rooms are owned by individuals and managed by this hotel group, do the owners even know how badly things are being handled? What was supposed to be a beautiful anniversary trip with our kids turned into one of the worst travel experiences we've ever had. Stay far, far away from this place!!!
