The " driver " that services the apartment dumpster next to my house. It seems to me,that KCD just hires a warm body to drive their trucks. We have lived next door to these apartments for 25 years and never had as much contact with any trash company about damages to my yard ( which they are paying to repair ) or missed trash pick up which when missed, the dumpster overflows and when the wind blows, the trash ends up in my yard. Avoid if you want reliable service. KC Disposal scheduled my bulky item pickup (king-size mattress) after weather delays. I placed it curbside as instructed--it sat in the snow all day with no pickup. Evening chat confirmed the schedule but offered zero help: "office closed," contact a separate closed department, manager will call back in 3 days. Refused supervisor access, suggested dragging a wet mattress back to garage (disgusting), and provided no solution for the weekend eyesore at my curb. Second time we've had 2 20 pound bags of grass with our trash that they have ignored for weeks. This morning I finally just put the bags in front of the can so they'd have to take them but he just instead got out pushed them over and dumped them all over the road and then got my trash can. I ran out saying "hey can you get those they've been waiting for three weeks" and he goes "they're too heavy" and drove away as fast as he could. After looking for two seconds I realized "why didn't you just put them into the trashcan and dump the can one more time then?" But what do I know I'm just a woman. We just paid for a renewal and will be looking elsewhere in three months. This is the second time this has happened and the first time they flipped me off driving away. I think you have great service! Everytime I've called, you have given me great customer service.

So on top of missing my last pick up on Friday, you have to come back on Tuesday to pick up. You leave my trash dumpster in the street like some unprofessional children. It's not my fault that you did not pick up my trash on Friday's and had to come back ever Tuesday. At this point it just seems once you have a problem with a customer's address your trash guys just does things on purpose. You should hire more professionals, it's just a trash pick up. This business is awful. At first their customer service rep couldn't tell us when our pick up was and told us they would call back. Never got a call back. Then they say your pick up is Friday. Never came Friday. Next they tell us oh we had your address wrong it's Monday. Never came Monday. Then we get a call today that they don't even service our area! But don't worry because they will still do a one time pick up for the inconvenience. Watched the truck pull up in front of the house sit there for 5 mins and then drive off without getting the bags. Fellow Merriam residents-Please be aware of KC Disposals practices. Since the city is going to GFL I decided late December to close business with KC disposal due to increased prices every 6 months. I accidentally forgot to cancel auto payment to KC Disposals and my payment went through. They cashed immediately and told my bank and I would they would refund the amount. Weeks have gone by and I got a nice song and dance from Katie who had the reasoning of the owner was not in for a month to approve refunds. She said an employee dropped the new check in the mail but could not answer me when I asked for the check number. I have been patient like they have asked me to and they have placed some of the blame on the USPS. Funny how the invoices always made it to my residence but not the refund check. I have waited since 12/26/25 and today is 3/12/26 and they are still not returning my calls and ignoring my emails. Poor customer service and I believe they want me to give in and just let them keep the money. My bank contacted them and they disconnected and the second time they placed them on hold so long the agent had to surrender and now has a team working on a follow up. Childish and unprofessional. Merriam made the correct choice of dropping this circus. I was a loyal on time paying customer who also had the bins placed on the end of service pick up day. We recently switched to KC disposal for our business trash because their rates were so much better than others in the area. Unfortunately, for the second time the gate to our business was left open after they emptied our trash. This was a holiday weekend and we just happened to come down and see our gate left open. If we had not, the gate would have been left open for three days. We have thousands of dollars of business assets behind out gate. I spoke with the vice president. I told her that I did not want someone coming into our parking lot outside of business hours. She told me that we would have to pay $50 a month for someone to come during business hours. I told her no I wasn't paying additional since this was their fault and if they couldn't come during business hours I wanted to cancel my service. She explained there was a $300 cancellation fee. I said I wasn't paying it. After going back and forth she told me she was canceling my service at my request and charging me the fee and hung up on me. I know have a pending invoice on my account for $395. This situation could have been so much worse. It's pretty sad that this company can not take responsibility for their actions. If I have missing business equipment because they left my gate open would they have paid to replace it? I'm guessing not. They could have easily cancelled my service without charge due to their major mistake. Instead the vice president of the company wanted to argue back and forth and not take any accountability for their mistake. read more

I had a WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE WITH KC DISPOSAL. I was struggling with my trash cans due to being disabled and using a walker. Caleb A. stopped his truck. Got out and came up to the house and took my trash bin down to the curb. Then he came into my garage and carried a bunch of empty boxes that I needed to get rid of to the truck for disposal. He was so polite and another truck driver by the name of Jonathan came by and d asked if I needed help also. They were so friendly, helpful and polite. Not rushed or in any hurry. Prior to that I had another driver a couple of months ago help me out also. And anytime the drivers missed a pickup all I needed to do was to call them and they would come out the next day. read more

When Republic stopped residential trash removal KC Disposal took over Republic's routes! Our HOA contracts with the trash company. So far KC Disposal has missed my pickup several times! They also don't have a number to call for missed pickups! I have to work through the HOA BOARD. So through the HOA I am paying for a service that I receive sporadically, and I can only complain to the HOA. The HOA contacts KC Disposal and I get told that they will pick the trash up the next day! But no one ever shows up, and my trash bin just gets fuller and fuller. WARNING ABOUT THIS COMPANY-- Damage to Personal Property Last week KC Disposal destroyed one of my plastic yard waste bins. After several calls I finally got a call back from a manager. She told me they are not responsible for damage to customer's property because there is a notice in their welcome letter. A disclaimer notice does not absolutely shield a business from property damages when negligent actions are involved. We've seen how waste handlers bang a bin on their truck to empty it quicker. This time they destroyed it. Businesses must exercise reasonable care and prudence when handling our property. Worst trash pickup never. They use automated side dumping on their trucks, so if you have an extra bag of trash, they will not pick it up. Their drivers are to lazy to get out of the truck. We are very disappointed with the service we are receiving. There are three house's on the street we live on, two of which uses KC disposal. We signed up for the yard waste service and they religiously miss our bags. I believe because the driver doesn't want to come down our street because theres only two house with there service. When we call the girl is VERY RUDE and will tell us " the trucks are still out" or "i'll check with the driver" and then we never hear back and the yard waste is not picked up. When we call back they tell us we will have to wait until next week. When next week comes it's the same story, no show and a rude customer service rep to deal with. I'm not sure why they think they can disrespect the very customers that provide the need for there service. At this point I'm thinking of paying more just to get the services I need read more

A few months ago, a guy and his team mate came to my door and "sold" me on switching to KC Disposal. Their price is $72, compared to the $95 or so that I was paying. A savings of around $20. That sounded great. I was told that my pickup day would be Mondays. For the past month, each Monday morning I would take the bins to the street and they would sit, unemptied, for a few days until I brought them back into the garage. This occurred for the past three weeks. I called this past Tuesday and I was told that they switched the pickup day to Thursday. I left the bins at the end of my driveway for this updated pick up day. Today is Friday, and the bins are still sitting at the end of the driveway and are untouched. I called KC Disposal, and I was told that there are not any trucks in the Gardner area today, but the bins should be emptied this coming Monday. This is frustrating..... read more

KC Disposal has the best customer service I've ever gotten from a trash company; always gotten a response w/i 24-hrs...the previous company I used in the KC area redirected calls to a nationwide call center, and I never got a local call back (felt like a black hole, maybe intentionally so people learned not to bother calling). I currently live in Johnson County, KS, where residents seem oddly obsessed about their trash pick-up...maybe because they make so much of it??? I've got neighbors who make so much garbage that the lid can't completely close on a weekly basis, while our household could easily go 3+ wks to fill our 65g bin (to reduce what goes to the landfill, we compost our produce scraps to use in our backyard garden/grass, as we strive to be responsible stewards of His creation). I come from a place where trash/recycling pick-up was included in our property taxes/public works services. KC Disposal is WAY better than what I am accustom to. For one, KC Disposal recognizes fewer holidays, which minimizes the number of weeks the schedule is delayed by a day. Also, KCD is proactive with communicating delays; I get a robocall reminder prior to trash holidays (also posted on their website) or the rare times they are impacted by winter weather (there was an icy day in Jan 2024 that I was totally surprised they still ran their regular route, albeit well into the evening; they would have been totally justified in delaying a day--heck no did I risk driving that day). Where I came from, sometimes trash just randomly wouldn't get picked up, so you'd just leave your cans at the curb for a few days, just in case they came around, before bringing them in to await the next week--since no communication, and could never get through to their office. And as mentioned, I value KCD's customer service, and the ladies I've spoken to in the office--once called since trash was "missed" but found out our neighbors had a HVAC service tech who parked in front of our bin, blocking it (love that their trash trucks have cameras). Since the trash truck was no longer in our area we just pulled our bin in and saved it for the following week, since not a big deal and not worth the gas of a truck returning...at worst I would have asked the older couple a couple houses down if they had spare room in their bin the next week. Are people not friends with their neighbors? Maybe I'm conditioned with low expectations from prior poor experience (other trash collectors), but in comparison I've been pleased with KCD. read more

We have had great service since switching to KC Disposal in Shawnee. Not only has the customer service been excellent but the trash/recycling/yard waste pick up has all been outstanding!! We've never had an issue with waste not being picked up. In fact, they picked up double the amount of yard waste allowed when we had a whole yard pickup after moving in. We did not expect them to pick it all up at once but was very grateful that they did. I would most definitely recommend KC Disposal! I just ordered an additional trash can last week as we have a big family and was in need of two bins. The trash bin was delivered today as promised (Wednesday, our normal trash day). I wanted to send a kudos to Pay, the man who delivered our bin today. He was very respectful of our property and even took the time to close the lid on our recycling bin (as it had just been picked up) and pushed the empty recycling bin and new trash bin up the driveway away from my full trash bin. Before a few days ago, I would've given KC Disposal a positive review. They haven't missed a pickup in the few months since we switched to them in Overland Park, KS. The price was high, but it was less than we had paid with our previous service provider. We received a notice in the mail a few days ago that indicated there would be a price increase on our next statement because their operating costs were too high and they had to "pass that cost onto [their] customers." Our bill at the time was $108 every three months. At first, I assumed it would be a modest increase, perhaps an additional $10 per period, and, while I didn't love the idea, it was acceptable. Yesterday, however, we received our statement for November: $179. Absolutely ridiculous. They may be paying higher fuel costs, but a nearly 70% increase in price for consumers is a flagrant and egregious abuse of our goodwill. We will *not* be paying and have already disabled autopay. We'll be switching to the only remaining provider in the area and hoping they will do better business than KC Disposal. read more

missed pickup again. i always set barrels the night before but they still miss them. now i'm told i need to wait another day. my disability doesn't allow me to just run out and put the barrels back and bring them back in all the time so they will sit out at the curb all night again.Heavy rain tonight and tomorrow. the city of Shawnee frowns on barrels being left out. read more
