We had gone on a Boat Tour & Snorkel of the Na Pali coast with another company the day before, and even though that was amazing, THIS was even better. Getting to swim in an ice cold pond under a 120ft waterfall is something that you will not get to do very often in life. The kayaking gave us gorgeous views and a little bit of a work out, the hike was rainforest-like and definitely unlike anything we've hiked in Los Angeles, and the waterfall was the icing on the cake. Also! I was pleasantly surprised by the lunch! I was expecting a simple turkey sandwich only to find a hearty turkey sandwich on ciabatta bread. The ingredients were all so fresh and tasty. Definitely inhaled it after that hike. Gabe, our lovely tour guide, cut up an insanely sweet pineapple after the meal as well. Most of the people in our tour group, for some reason, didn't get into the waterfall because they were afraid of the cold water, which I thought was such a waste! The water is shallow (5ft max) and I know it's cold, but take deep breaths and soon it feels warm. I was squealing going in, but so happy I did, and I have great photos to take back with me. GET IN THAT WATERFALL! You won't regret it! Also I have nothing but great things to say about this company. It all started when I was walking when I grabbed my cup of joe, then there was this tour spot next to the coffee shop and I wanted to see what this was about... I go and talk to the lady which was the boss who manages the tours and she put me on the waiting list because it was all booked... I received a call from the boss lady on my birthday that she squeezed my partner and I in on the tour... My partner didn't go but I sure did! I enjoyed the staff Gabe and Nina they were excellent and outstanding and took care of us on our kayak and hike. I loved every minute of it and would love to do it again! The price was very reasonable and $ didn't mean a thing when I'm on vacation. I have so many incredible things to say about this tour and their staff. The kayak/hiking route itself is amazing, but our guides made all the difference. Nate with his extensive knowledge of all the plant life, and Levi who taught us so much about the Hawaiian culture and history. OMG such a fun day! The river is beautiful and lined with fragrant flowers and stunning views. The paddling was a good workout (esp facing trade winds on the way back), and our guide, Gabriel, was terrific. The real fun came during the hike, which is far more involved than the description led us to believe. There are very tight spaces, narrow passages and what we consider treacherous climbs. Wear good shoes (I wore Saguaro water shoes), a swimsuit (you cross four rivers, some stretches deeper than others), sunscreen and BUG SPRAY. Be well-fueled and well-hydrated. And when you get to the waterfall, go all the way in and under. It's a great experience, even if the water is cold AF. Pro Tip: swim out until the rocks get in the way. Duck under the falls and stand behind them so the water doesn't pound your head. Lunch was simple but good, the highlight being fresh pineapple Gabriel prepared. He was the perfect guide, engaging and knowledgeable, and he clearly cares deeply about the island's natural resources. FWIW, it seemed like we paddled a lot more than two miles each direction and hiked more than one mile each way. So worth it, but this is not a lazy river ride and a stroll in the woods. read more

Great kayak and waterfall adventure for my husband and I! The 2 mile kayak to the waterfall was super easy. The hiking was easy too especially because the guides put in some planking for parts of the more difficult hiking areas. Our guide Page was extremely knowledgeable about the local fauna. She pointed out many unique plants to us! She was also very personable and made sure she connected with each of the members of the group. She also made sure we were safe on the water! Exactly the experience we wanted - from our excellent guide Gabe (can't miss him - 6'5" English accent!) to the provided double kayak for my wife and I (as we celebrated our 30th anniversary!), the easily carried wet bag, camera bag, snacks, extra water bottles (always have water!), to the upriver leisurely kayak with nine others, enjoying the lovely scenery on a slightly overcast day, to the deposition point, and the fairly rugged hike over rocks and branches, slippery mud, thankfully planked areas, across a stream waist-deep using a walking stick (recommended!), and eventually to the enormous and enormously well-deserved and worth it payoff at the end - the Secret Falls!!! - where we lunched and played in/under/near/around this thundering 100'+ waterfall's three to four foot deep plunge pool, totally in nature! no one to stop you etc...., gorgeous! just gorgeous!! and the return hike, kayak, and knowing we did it, and did it right!! read more

We had an amazing adventure with Mason on a kayak and hike adventure on the Wailua River. Mason did a great job getting us acclimated on the kayaks and leading us down the river. He even stopped at key spots to make sure he got pictures of everyone in their kayaks. (One of our fav pics from our whole honeymoon is one he took!) The hike was extra muddy from the heavy rain the day before. But he gave us lots of advice on how to stay safe. We were happy we brought older hiking shoes and weren't afraid to get them dirty! We brought sandals for the kayaking and switched to shoes when we got to the hike. They give you a waterproof bag for all your stuff! The waterfall and pool at the end was very refreshing after the hike. Lunch of a sandwich, chips and some cookies was enjoyed with a view of the waterfall before heading back. Mason shared lots of stories about the island. He was a ton of fun and an excellent guide! We would totally recommend this excursion! read more

This was a great guided tour. The kayaking was fun and they provide all the gear except for lunch. The dry bag is a backpack and it's very roomy. They gave us bottles of water for the trip. We kayaked down the river and then hiked to the waterfall. The hike is easy, crossing shallow streams and the waterfall is lovely. We just got back from Kauai and I took the whole family (kids 5 and 7, parents, and grandparents in their 70s) and we did the Falls hike and kayak. It was a wonderful day on the river (sore the next day cause, let's be honest... little kids don't really paddle) but it was a beautiful day. There was some wind so kayaking wasn't a breeze, but I'm proud of us for doing it. The trail to the falls was beautiful - muddy in spots and we crossed streams a few times (we wore water hiking shoes), had a lovely lunch at the falls and came back. We definitely slept well that night. Our guide was Gabriel and he was a gem. At one point the wind caught my parents' kayak and they struggled to catch up so he rescued them and helped them get back to the dock safe and sound. It was a lovely day. Highly recommend it if you're on the island. read more

OMG I highly recommend this when you are on Kauai!! Gabriel was our guide and he is so friendly and has learned everything he knows by learning it himself and sometimes even doing it himself. Yes, the row up the river is hard. Surprisingly the kayak down is harder. I took walking sticks since I need knee surgeon the near future. But Gabriel was so understanding and walked slower for me. No one in our guide complained and we all had fun. We didn't have any muddy trails- but there was any recent rains either. Your reward at the end is an amazing waterfall!!! You really need to try this and just read other reviews so you have a good idea of what to expect. Very worth it!!! read more

Kauai is such a beautiful, outdoorsy place to explore.. so what better way to explore it than by doing a kayak & waterfall hike tour!? My friend went to Kauai a few months earlier and recommended this tour by Kayak Adventures to me. The tour was well organized and we had a great time! This is not a difficult hike, and a much easier hike than the Hanakapi'ai Falls Trail (Napali Coast hike). I would recommend water shoes like Teva, if you wear tennis shoes or hiking shoes - your shoes and socks will get wet. You have to cross a river with no rocks to jump across on. The kayak was about 2.5 miles and the hike is about 1 mile one way. We had a great tour guide named Thomas. He was really friendly and super knowledgeable. He told us about different plants, animals, and history of Hawaii. He also prepared a pretty lunch of sandwiches and pineapple for us with flowers and leaves. Thomas also bandaged me up when I accidentally scraped myself on some rocks (I'm SUPER clumsy and got a little careless). Its not a strenuous hike, but you do need to be careful and watch where you are going while hiking and also watch the rocks in the waterfall. The waterfall was beautiful and the water was warm and great to swim in! I would recommend taking a tour in the morning. We did the 7 AM one and the waterfalls was less crowded plus it started getting really hot on our kayak back. I would highly recommend checking out Kayak Adventures for a great morning kayak and waterfall hike while visiting Kauai! read more
