I visited Sao Paulo, and I was craving Korean food. I heard that a neighborhood in Bom Retiro had high Korean concentration. Without knowing what kind of restaurants I would find, I decided to venture into the area. After browsing through several restaurants, I decided to give Kaya a shot since they served Soon Tofu.
The entry wasn't easy to access. It was initially locked, and the doors were controlled behind the cashier. I had to ring the buzzer for the door to open.
The initial entry smell wasn't entirely pleasant. The place smelled like a soybean paste soup. After you sit for a while, your nose adjusts to the scent and forgets the smell.
What I ordered: SOON TOFU DISH
Like a typical Soon Tofu restaurant, they server croaker before the entree. This was the largest fish that I've ever had with tofu soup. It was a full-grown adult in my platter. The texture of the Soon Tofu was very very mild to my standard. And to my surprise, there wasn't any protein added to the soup. It was strictly tofu. To make up for the absence, they served steamed pork with various side dishes. Overall, the food was tasty and the price was reasonable. read more
