In the heart of the traditional Korean town of Bom Retiro, as other restaurants of similar cuisine, one issue that needs to be adapted to local customs is their working hours: specially at night, they close quite early for Brazilian standard. Apart from that, the dishes are very well executed. If you are a beginner on Korean cuisine, better try "Seok Joung Combinado" which can be individual or for sharing by two. It comes with a little bit of each traditional dish, including soup, rice, Korean style sashimi and others that may vary daily. And the price is very reasonable for the quality and quantity. If you know a little more about Korean food, then try the other dishes in the menu with no fear. A Korean to be called authentic.

Gogigui (barbecue in Korean) in is he main item in the menu, with different options (beef, chicken, pork, duck) for sharing, but other dishes are also available. We were in a group of 4 and none of us were in mood of having the barbecue. Moreover, we had a member trying Korean food for the very first time and another one who wasn't much into spicy food. Taking everything into consideration, we ordered 2 bowls of bibimbap and kimchi jjigae (stew with kimchi, tofu and pork). While waiting for the dishes to come, we were offered banchan (side dishes) which was okay. A portable stove was placed on the table for preparing the kimchi jjigae and all dishes were brought at once. Flavor-wise, everything was very tasty, but spiciness was an issue for the ones that were not really familiar to Korean food. But fortunately bibimbap was served with gochujang separately, so we managed to make and edible bibimbap for everyone's standards. In the end we realized that 1 bowl could be enough for the 4 of us. One curious thing happened while we were having our meal: a family with a child seated in a high chair had ordered the barbecue. We heard a scream all of sudden. The girl had put the hands over the hot grill! So one important piece of advice: make sure you keep an eye on children if you come here with your family.

Surprisingly they brought out a basket with piping hot charcoal, turn on the exhaust, brought some kalbi and we were in business! So I asked if they could whip up a bibimbap dorsot and the answer was yes! Even though they didn't have lettuce and practically out of most banchans, it was still worth the experience and for them going the extra mile of making the bibimbap, it was awesome! Plus service is quite polite. And it was charcoal instead of gas like most places, it's aroma it's unbeatable! Can't wait to go back and try other things and more banchans. I believe the sin here is the mix of the Korean and the Chinese cuisines - despite of the number of options, the implementation could be better. Meals are a little different from the ones I'm used to. Moreover, the place seems a little old and should have more attention to the general appearance - that might scare some of the audience. Despite of all those observations, the food I've had there was fair. There are couple of other places in São Paulo (Lua Palace, Bicol, Dare (and others at Rua Ribeiro de Melo, at Bom Retiro neighborhood). Don't get me wrong - food is OK - but for me, adequately expose to good Korean food, it's below average.

From the cocktails to the desserts, everything we tasted was just amazing. Service is attentive and super helpful. It was an incredible experience. there wasn't a bad dish at all. the star for me was the sesame dessert, the pork belly, and the kalbi. I am floored by their ability to hold to traditional Korean dish elements, like the banchan, and the essence and flavours, but still being such a refreshing and unique approach to the dishes. the pork belly almost knocked me out of my chair. the intensity of the flavour, coupled with the tenderness was just magical. I appreciated the kimchi rice and egg because the egg added such a soft and delicate balance to the meal without being over powering or tasting like egg. such a big fan of the desserts, both were so different. we got the sesame and the merengue. it was a beautiful balance of flavours. I would say the sesame took the cake [pun intended], because the flavours were so perfectly balanced. not too sweet, not too savory, just a nice expression of the sesame through intentional flavours. their drinks were also quite delightful. the "only and" was my favourite. this spot is listed on many "must" lists in São Paulo, and of course just very pleased to be visiting these incredibly awarded Michelin star restaurants while here. one a day for five days straight, so I'll keep sharing as we visit more.

I loved everything about this place. It's the first time I've found a really good Korean barbecue…read morein Brazil and left full and happy. You order whichever meat choice seems best for you and then you get to grill it on your table yourself (with help if you want it). All of the flavors were great. It was not as spicy as I've had in other countries, but we intentionally chose an option that our toddler could share. If you want more of one of the little side dishes, I'm sure they'll refill it, but we didn't get to that point. The only reason it's not a five star is that we had to ask for our drinks twice. If they do everything right next time, this definitely goes into my 5 star collection.
