Kawiarnia Karmello is a trendy yet quaint little cafe on the Royal Route which is worth stopping into. The girls working there on the day I visited were extremely friendly and very interested in the fact that I could speak some Polish. We struck up a short conversation, it was a real pleasure. My friend and I were looking for a place to cool off after an afternoon of sightseeing, and it was nice to retreat to the cool of this cafe. We ordered some iced coffees and desserts - because double the sweets is always a good idea. They had so many chocolates as they are also a chocolatier, and I really wish I had saved room to buy some. Every piece looked scrumptious. My drink was tasty, and I drank it too fast. I was glad to have ordered water. It still shocks me to have to pay for water, but I'm not in America anymore, and I'd better get used to it. I ordered the raspberry dessert, and you could tell that it was pre-made. It came in a little plastic cup, and while it looked great, it wasn't fresh-tasting, and it was overly sweet. But it wasn't bad, so I don't want to scare you away. The wifi is free - check for the password on the wall near the coffee bar. Toilets are for customers only, so buy something! We found this place while waiting for our train in Krakow. The kiosk shop is in the mall close to the entrance to the train station. So much chocolate stuff to choose from, all of which looks sooooo good! We bought a small variety box of coffee infused chocolate. This was a very good choice. We rationed our small supply of chocolate, eating some on our train ride, and at every subsequent stop we made during our trip, until it was all gone. This chocolate shop is rated very highly on trip advisor so I knew this was one of the places that I would need to visit. I went to the karmello in the main square and got a box of chocolates for 22pl- what a bargain. The chocolates that I've tried are very delicious and they let you pick the flavors to put in. I really thought that they had preselected boxes that you could not vary. I went to this location today and found it even nicer than the other location. It's a little bit larger. The staff was very kind and was able to answer my questions in English. I discovered if you buy 4 boxes it costs 89 pl. although now that I think about it that's not really a discount it's 1 pl more. read more

Was looking for a place to grab a coffee and pastry before joining the free walking tour. There wasn't much to choose from if you wanted to avoid big chains such as Costa and McDonalds. Karmello looks like a chocolate shop from the outside but has a small cafe on the side.
