We had dinner from Katya's Food Truck which happened to be positioned at a local brewery. All of us had the chicken and cheese empanadas and two of us the beef and cheese empanadas. All of them were fried in coconut oil, so they have a bit of that taste to them. The fillings were flavorful, but not too spicy. I would have like a bit more filling and a bit more texture to them. I have had Argentinian ones before that were a bit more toothsome and also were accompanied by some sauces. The crust was crispy and light but not particularly composed of layers.
We also shared the yummy yuca fries which had a small bit of sauce with them (I don't recommend the sauce which tasted like bottled creamy Italian dressing.) and the maduros, fried sweet plantains which were very good. One of us also got the chorizo pincho (grilled chorizo skewer). This diner would have preferred a bit more sauce to go with it.
The truck was manned by one young person who wasn't too friendly until I placed my large order. Bring some things to eat with/on as the empanadas will be handed to you in a waxed paper bag or maybe some extra napkins.
Empanadas were $5 each. read more
