From the first phone call for an appointment, the lady who picked up the phone was very nice and clear. She told me that this doctor is located in a house and that there is parking out back. Walking into the house from the front door, you have to guess which of the three doors is the correct one. (I guessed the door on the left and got it right the first time, whew!) On the day of my appointment, there was no wait at all. The nurse/clerk was very very nice from beginning to end. Dr. Derzie explained everything to me very clearly and the appointment went smoothly. He knew my case without me having to explain what surgery I had. He called one of the nurses into the room with me during my appointment so that I would be more comfortable. I was in and out of the office within 15-20 minutes. I would recommend this place for sure!

He does not rush to prescribe quick-fix pills and instead first promotes healthy lifestyle like good diet and exercise, but when medications are needed, he doesn't hesitate. And with his help, I finally quit smoking after more than 50 years of being a smoker. His staff is great -- the front desk people are somewhat quiet/reserved in style but they are totally professional and helpful any time I call for something or go in for an appointment. And the two Nurse Practitioners -- Sarah and Chenelle - are absolutely wonderful and thorough in their examinations. Dr. Last is an old-time physician -- the kind who spends the time to get to know his patients and listen to them. The world needs more like him.

It is set back in the parking lot so it is hard to tell if it is open or not if you are just driving by I saw the PA. After hearing my concerns she examinee my nose. She was unsure it it was true sinus or a dermatlogy issue so She recommended some hot/cold compresses and also rx me an antibiotics if it doesnt improve for me to go to the ER. They took me promptly, accessed my previous visits records, and the P.A. examined me,diagnosed a salivary gland infection, prescribed antibiotics, phoned them in to an all night pharmacy ( the pharmacy near them closed at 9 pm, and my healing was able to start that night! The lack of coordination in their scheduling system takes away from an otherwise high standard of care. I sincerely hope management addresses these administrative bottlenecks soon. Except when I walked in the first thing she said was why didn't I go for blood test? Also had an echo cardiogram, and she was wondering why they did not set a follow up appointment with me to discuss the results. 10 weeks later.....The physician seemed fine. I had seen them previously before they moved into this group and I did like them very much. But this office is under completely different management. I have been a medical office manager, my whole adult life and the lack of communication and the lack of experience of the front desk is noticeable. I have had three maybe four appointments in this location and each time they ask me if I'm new and each time they tell me that my Medicare card is not valid. So while I do like the doctors, I am leaving this practice due to the problems with the front desk. Very disappointed and sad to leave, but the problems seem serious enough for me to find another primary care physician..

I have gone to AFC in East Rockway multiple times and was always pleased. The last time I went in…read moreMarch for a cold, possible infection, they tested me and the next day called me and said I had a regular cold. Two days later I called and told them my symptoms were worse and I think I needed an antibiotic. They told me that I needed to wait 10 days. I called back the next day and explained to them that I believed I had an infection based on the color and the amount of nasal discharge I was experiencing. I felt worse, despite using the netipot and over the counter cold meds. Again, I was told I needed to wait 10 days. I was so frustrated that I called an ENT in Melville and they took me immediately. I had a raging sinus infection and my right eardrum was very inflamed blocking it from opening and causing me muffled hearing. I was put on prednisone and an antibiotic. When the issue didn't resolve, I went to the ER at NYU Langone and they said everything was still very inflamed in the ear. They put me on another antibiotic and sent me to their team in Garden City. That ENT gave me steroid for the ear, told me to continue the antibiotic and has seen me several times to manage my blocked ear. It is now 9 weeks later and I still have Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. This all could have been avoided if that initial doctor at AFC would have let me come back each time (twice) I called to have them look at me again. A simple cold turned into a raging infection that has now left me with ETD. I will never go to another AFC. I knew something was wrong, but this doctor thought he knew better than me without re-checking me. I don't understand it, it was my dime. So unprofessional!
