I kept stumbling with my turns so he went out of his way during the lesson to work with me on them. After an hour lesson, the dance floor opened up until 2am to a spicy mix of salsa and bachata songs! As a first-timer I felt shy and sat in a corner but everyone (even the elite) were so friendly and continually asked me to dance (and taught me steps along the way)! I tend to be very uncomfortable when it comes to physical contact but dancing with everyone felt rather natural! Such a lovely experience- If I lived in or near Philly I would take classes here in a heartbeat. Will definitely be back for more salsa nights!

Our instructor was pleasant and patient, and we had a great time learning basic salsa moves!! The other people in the drop-in class were two other couples...so be warned as that generally seems the norm for classes. I think the academy also does "salsa parties" which are more free practice sessions. The time flew by, and we were encouraged to videotape the last 5 minutes of the instructor giving an overview of what we had learned, so we could come back after practicing on our own! Will definitely come back to use up the rest of our livingsocials....hopefully the classes aren't too repetitive so we'll see!

This is not the first time this has happened, there have been multiple occasions where my daughter told me she felt uncomfortable and judged in the studio. Competition kids would stare or whisper. Later in the year i was speaking to one of the other moms, and the studio owner came up as a topic of our conversation. I was told the owner has been saying to a few moms they should keep their kids away from my daughter!!! That is ridiculous!!! This studio is full of negativity and judgement across every room! My daughter has refused to go back and I agree with her, this is ridiculous!!

They will accept the poorest of behaviors as long as it benefits them. Find a place that lifts your kids up, not tears them down. Find a place where your kids will be nurtured and their voices heard, not pushed away and screamed at for actually attending classes. Newer teachers have zero classroom control and seasoned teachers look so beat up by the owners they are just hanging on. It has been a sad decline. The studio owner and one of her daughters continue to think they are God as it was posted in another review. It is awful how they treat their students. They completely beat down and damage the self esteem of most of their dancers, my child included. I have witnessed first hand the inappropriate comments by the teachers and the tears of the students that stem from such comments. It is okay if teachers miss classes for personal events but the kids are shamed for doing so. They have no respect for these young girls and ladies. There are a handful of teachers there that seem to really care. There are others that carry on the abusive way of the owner and seem to get joy out of making kids feel poorly about themselves. Although it was an outsourced company it is a reflection of the studio. My mother wrote a Facebook review and the owner emailed me asking me to tell my mom to remove it. Anna was our party host, and she was incredibly friendly and amazing with the kids. She was a pro at getting the kids involved and if they didn't want to be involved (we had one or two who were too cool for dance school) she didn't push them at all. Jessica (I think I'm right on the name?? I hope) was also very friendly and efficient. This place is a fantastic deal for the price, plus all the kids get a free class just for coming to the party.
