I didn't end up hiring Kathy's Landscaping or even having them come out to bid on my job. They responded to my Yelp Project request. Some service providers charge a service fee to come out and assess a repair and then will apply the that service fee to the cost of the repair. I can understand that as you're relying on their time and expertise to assess a situation, so for them to come out, not knowing if you're actually going to hire them, a service fee is somewhat justified to compensate them for their time and expertise. (Though not every service provider has such a practice. In this case, however, we had a new project we wanted a bid on...brand new installation, not a repair, and Kathy's wanted to charge a service fee just to come out and do a bid. Not a repair, but a new project. This felt like not a great way to earn new business and, as I received numerous other queries from other providers, it made no sense at all to pay them money just to tell me how much they would charge to do this new project. read more

Ramiro has done it again. The crew that comes to me for regular service noticed my trees not doing well. Ramiro came out right away, ran tests and saw that my valve was bad. The mess that was my sprinkler valves is now clean, neat, reenforced with stronger pipe and a brass valve. Working with Kathy's was super easy and Alex, our project supervisor is very good. He was very patient and helped us to make decisions about the project that we weren't sure of. The crew was great too. Francisco helped us with plant placement and took the time to setup the watering schedule to help insure that the new plants survive. Before Ramiro, we consulted with many landscapers and were either told our hillside was too challenging to tackle or we could try planting but it would likely fail. We had a quickly eroding hillside, yet the loose soil and very steep hill made it difficult to access and plant. We were at our wit's end, when we stumbled upon the Dirt Locker system and were advised to contact Kathy's for a consult. We are so grateful that Ramiro agreed to tackle our very challenging hillside. We agreed to use Dirt Lockers in order to make our slippery and quickly eroding hillside plantable. Ramiro walked us through the type of plants that would make sense for us- something that would be gopher resistant (since we have a huge gopher problem here) and drought tolerant (to minimize water runoff given we are planting on an eroding hillside), yet beautiful. Even our neighbors were impressed with Ramiro's work. Knowing how our hillside used to look ready to collapse, a number of our neighbors even rolled down their windows when driving by to thank Ramiro for his work. From start to finish job to 4 1/4 days. Alex gave great service. We just had a general idea, he assisted us with finalizing our plan. Tomas and his crew worked so efficiently. Demo took 2 days that included cutting down a large sycamore tree and grinding up the roots. As well as taking out the lawn and demo of concrete walkway. Installed pavers and drip irrigation. I absolutely cannot say enough positive things about working with Kathy's Landscaping. We are renting a home in Canyon Country and landscaping needs fall to us the tenants. I own a hillside property and had discovered the Dirt Locker terracing system - I called them and they recommended Kathy's Landscaping for install. I worked directly with Ramiro and his team and they were nothing but polite, professional, responsive, and helpful. I'm a landlord who lives a couple of hours away and needed a lot of work done on my property before El Niño arrives. For two nights, I researched different sites like Nextdoor to see who neighbors were referring. People had a lot of good to say about Kathy's landscaping. The next week I drove up and met with Alex. We came up with a game plan and also had his arborist remove and or prune several of the trees that were in desperate need. Alex was great to work with from the first minute I met him. He was enthusiastic about the job and had many recommendations. The plan wasn't going to go quite as planned, so he came up with a different solution, and was very fair about the price. He was very responsive and forthcoming with lots of photos of the progress. Ramiro and team tackled a very difficult landscaping job - removing trees and green space that began to break down pool walls. Some of the trees were 20 years old. Not only was the job done to perfection but they bothered with what others may consider "small stuff"....cleaning the pool, sweeping and raking the dirt etc. I was concerned about the scope of this job but Kathy's Landscaping brought enough staff to complete it in 5 hours. Others had told me it would take 2-3 days! Because of my concerns, Ramiro (the owner) stayed on site the entire time - to ensure everything was done correctly.
