The Kirklin Clinic (5/5) has always pulled through for me. They are the main reason I moved back to…read moreBham in the first place since my physician was here. The quality of care I have received has been more consistent than it has not. There have been one or two individuals I haven't cared for, but I took the proper channels to address them. Parking is a pain like any other medical facility so be sure to account for that when deciding your arrival time. Be aware of EVERYONE walking in the garage. Someone will pop around a vehicle in a blind spot quickly. They have coffee that you can purchase at the cart or Starbucks if you just really need it. Sneaky Pete's and Wall Street Deli are easily accessible if you don't bring your own food, snacks, drinks and of course there are other options you can walk or drive to if able (sending someone else is ideal if you're here for treatments instead of a regular appt). Bathrooms are clean/checked often, facility is clean, most staff is pleasant/helpful. I find it easy to navigate by following the signage. Add some additional time for elevator wait times in case they are busier than normal. This is a high traffic building in general. My main complaint (0/5) is with the changes in the 5th floor infusion clinic (I can't speak for other areas). The individual that took them over at the end of last year has made several changes. One of the main ones I find an issue with is claiming there is no budget for snacks or drinks for the patients anymore. It used to be customary to offer a snack and drinks upon receiving your treatments to help with nausea, mask the horrible taste you have while receiving treatments, provide something for your time there, etc. I bring my own anyway, but there are several individuals who simply forget, don't focus on it because or pain or discomfort, or cannot afford to do so. There were 6 complaints I heard in the pod I was in for my most recent treatments over this change. I loveeeee the nurses here and even they aren't pleased delivering the news each time. UAB makes entirely too much money to claim $.05 cheez its, peanut butter crackers, chips, etc are out of budget. They offered that and more plus ginger-ale, juice, other sodas or water for years! The little things tell you if a facility cares about/values you as a patient. If you think people don't notice - they do. Even from something the higher ups feel is so small.

I injured my ankle in October 2021. I went to urgent care and was told it was just a sprain, before…read moreseeing my normal nurse practitioner, getting an MRI, and finding out that I needed surgery(had two complete tears of my ATFL and my CFL). I was talking to the athletic trainer at my school about it and he said "Might as well have the best in the country operating on you" when he asked if I'd like to have my surgery done at Andrews. Me and my parents did research on Dr. Waldrop. I was nervous to have surgery done until meeting Dr. Waldrop. The first visit with him was November 19, 2021 and he confirmed that surgery would be necessary to fix my ankle. He answered all the questions that my mom had about surgery and made sure to tell us what he would be doing procedure wise. We got the surgery scheduled for 10 days after that. So on November 29, I had my surgery and after having surgery and going through physical therapy, I haven't had anymore injuries to my right ankle(Thank you Dr. Waldrop!!). Now, I've seen him probably 5 or 6 times since surgery. I just saw him last month August 2022, for a follow up appointment, but unfortunately had to let him know that I was still having some problems with my ankle. Dr. Waldrop had me moved to a room where he could do an x-ray to check the stability of my ankle from where he fixed it and he told me that my ankle stability was good. After talking to him more about what was going on, he talked to me and my parents about letting him put a shot in my ankle. I'm not a big fan of shots and normally refuse to get a shot, but I trust Dr. Waldrop, so when he said the shot was probably the best thing for me, I decided to let him give me the shot. The shot hasn't helped as much as I had hoped it would, so when I go back to see him, I'm hoping that we can find out for sure what is wrong with my ankle. I highly recommend seeing Dr. Waldrop and his team if you have to get ankle surgery. He really does care about his patients and how they feel about their injuries. I personally would not want to see anyone else to have my ankle treated. I'm very glad that Dr. Waldrop was the one to do my surgery because having the surgery has improved my quality of life greatly. If you want a surgeon that takes the time to talk to patients, explain your injury, and take the time to explain what can be done to treat it, Dr. Waldrop is the best person to go see!

He will explain everything he is doing (if you prefer) and how it can help. He is quick but thorough, which helps with my busy schedule and there is rarely ever a wait over 5 minutes. They also have private parking which is nice to never worry about whether a spot will be available or not. Parish (his wife) is also there at the front desk and has been very helpful with insurance questions.

He is incredibly knowledgeable, has a lot of tools in his treatment toolbox, he explains everything as much (or as little) as you want, he always makes sure the treatment is within your comfort zone, and booking is easy. The environment is calm, open and bright, the music is always low key and good, and if you need x-rays he can do them there. When my GP took x-rays, they saw "not broken, it'll get better on its own." Buuut it didn't. When Dr. Ray took x-rays, he saw my dislocated rib. (And thank God he did, cuz that was not fun.) Today I went in absolutely desperate- I had been experiencing pain in my neck and shoulder that was constant and intense. Ray knew exactly what my issue was based on my symptoms, and tailored my treatment accordingly. After my treatment the pain was gone. Finally, after 5 days of relentless pain, I will be able to get a good nights sleep! Most importantly, I trust Dr. Ray. He knows what he's doing and he listens to (and cares about) his patients.
