Kate Hillman is one of the best yoga teachers I've ever worked with. She's calm, patient, friendly, knows her stuff and is *very* attentive to her students' needs. Her classes have a five student limit, which means there's time and space for her to adjust students so they're holding the poses the right way. She's also really attuned to students' physical needs and limitations and is happy to adapt poses -- and sometimes classes -- depending on them. I started taking Kate's classes after my little sister died in 2007. Kate really helped me through the hardest time of my life, providing guidance and helping me find some relief from the pain I was experiencing. I moved away from Monrovia almost a year-and-a-half ago, but I still go back as regularly as I can to attend Kate's classes. It's well worth the drive. I haven't found any teachers close to home that are anywhere near as good as she is. Last fall I signed up for a day of yoga in Monrovia Canyon Park that Kate offers twice a year It was fantastic, rejuvenating and so much fun. I have studied yoga for about 15 years with various teachers. I have known Kate for about 11 of those 15 years. She is yogaish but still very professional. Her studio is always clean and organized. Kate is the best teacher in identifying problems with the body and the poise for addressing that problem. Kate's knowledge of anatomy,yoga and willingness to adapt program to my needs was wonderful. So glad I got a chance to stop by Kate Yoga today! I heard about an Essential Oils workshop Kate was hosting at the studio today and decided to drop by! I have been to several yoga classes at my college where instructors would rub essential oils on our feet during shavasna (corpse pose) but never understood the importance or benefit of the oils. Luckily, after Kate's class today, I now know! Kate herself is very warm, welcoming and a wealth of information when it comes to holistic remedies and essential oils. She taught me how to use essential oil blends with lavender, peppermint, orange,etc. for things like managing anxiety or relaxing. I am a full time college student and I've been prescribed several medications for managing stress and anxiety, but after today I feel more comfortable using essential oils for handling stress and anxiety. After the workshop, Kate showed us a catalog of oils that she sells through doterra and even gave us a free Wild Orange essential oil! Thanks Kate! When I was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease a couple of years ago, it was suggested that I try yoga. Well after having several orthopaedic surgeries, I did not think I was a likely candidate for yoga until I met Kate. Kate is a wonderful teacher and has been able to tailor make my workouts around my limitations. Her soothing and yet confident voice allows me to relax and feel confident that I am not going to cause myself injury. I had been really stressed for a while when a friend of mine gave me a gift certificate to one of Kate's yoga classes. I had tried yoga in the past and did not like it, but as a courtesy to my friend, I attended one of Kate's yoga classes. It was absolutely fantastic! I attended a women's conference earlier this year and attended a class that was being taught be Kate. I didn't expect much as the class was on breathing and ho doesn't already know how to breath. Well was I surprised! I left the class with a lot of good/useful information, a few essential oil samples and a desire to learn more. Since the conference, my sister and I found Kate at her Monrovia studio and have taken some of her classes and works shops. I came to the U.S. a few years ago from Canada and into a very stressful situation. I ate my way through my problems. I had been doing yoga off and on for years before but now, with the added weight, I found it difficult to do the poses. I went to Kate's studio after several years of not doing anything. She recommends having a private session with her for your first class to assess you and help you. Well worth it. She even gives you a recorded CD of your session so you can practice at home. She has definitely helped me to love yoga again! She focuses very much on it being therapeutic and rejuvinating. Her knowledge is amazing as well as she offers "extra" types of classes to incorporate yoga into all aspects of your life. The classes are so intimate and small - not common at all in most yoga studios - so I always feel I get personalized attention. The poses are for everyone no matter what your size or experience level and she will address your specific concerns that day in that class. I can't tell you the number of times I have come into class with some pain somewhere that I have had all day only to have it gone within the hour. I find it difficult to commit to yoga when i am alone; I struggle to discipline that noise in my head that interrupts my peace. I like Kate's blend of intention, stillness and methodical movement. My husband and I started our yoga journey with Kate early last year, and we found out yoga experience at Kate Yoga is totally different than we usually understand. We like the idea of private lesson, and our weekly lesson with Kate always starts with a conversation about our week, physical and mental feelings, and more.
