Our daughter is very comfortable with her and very adverse to change. We have been to many other psychiatrists, both in CA and WA since our daughter was 5 years old. Dr. Amin is compassionate, caring, and thoughtful. She has tried hard to find the right mix of medication and in some cases, opted to decrease medications that she felt would be harmful in the long run. It's taken some trial and error but we have found a good mix of therapy & medication for where we are now and with her maturity level. There is no magic bullet and no magic doctor in our experience. It takes mix of therapies and doctors and we've found Dr. Amin to be effective. We also have learned to manage our doctors and speak up as an advocate for our daughter. Question everything. Dr. Amin is open and receptive from our point of view. She also recommended we visit the CHC in Palo Alto for testing. The CHC was a VERY expensive 8 weeks. Painful to drive to PA in rush hour 2x a week with a toddler in tow as well. In the end...same result. Back to Dr. Amin. Back to same meds. Her office staff has been an issue and I feel for the other patients as well. We have had some mediocre experiences with them as well, but I can't fault Dr. Amin for them per say. I think it's hard to find a good support staff in this area at ANY doctor's office. We try to plan ahead and schedule appointments out so to avoid calling in last minute. The office staff gets 2 stars. I hope they improve. I'm an optimist.

I got two second opinions after Dr. Malik and they confirmed I exhibit many inattentive ADHD symptoms and should get a more comprehensive evaluation. She was also the one who suggested I get tested for MTHFR gene SNPs.... now I know I am homozygous for the C677T allele and take L-methyfolate every day to normalize my neurotransmitter levels and reduce fatigue (as well as reduce my risk for certain heart diseases). We landed on a plan that included medication and cognitive behavioral therapy (both of which I had positive outcomes with previously), as well as incorporating some new mindfulness practices that have been very helpful.
