    Lamb kebabs

Very unassuming place but once you step upstairs to dine in you get a nice window view and a menu of delicious food. I am not well acquainted with Uyghur cuisine (unfortunately!) but the spicy and zesty flavors won me over. I had the Lagman noodles with lamb which had a handful of lamb bites and veggies in a tomato curry sauce. My dining companions had variations of noodles and meat all which were delicious as well. My favorite was actually the DaiPanJi which came with numbingly spicy flat noodles that really hit the spot. Prices and portions were fair for what we (American tourists!) experienced so far in Munich. I would definitely return again for the bold flavors and chewy noodles!

Ordered lagmen and it was delicious! The texture of the noodle is excellent - chewy and well cooked. There's also good amount of vegetables of all sorts - red bell peppers, celery, string beans etc. the people who work at the restaurant are friendly. Sustainability comment: The chopsticks are one-time use type. Would be more sustainable to use chopsticks that can be reused.

Ever had uigur? This regional kitchen from the Chinese province Xijan is famous for its skewers and hand-pulled noodles. The Kashgar near the central station advertises dishes with handmade noodles starting at EUR7 pop. A recent newspaper article mentioned cardamon tea for EUR1 a glass. Where has it all gone? When I visit this simple but newly redecorated restaurant above a Döner Kebab shop, the place is packed, but as it turns out it can't be for the food. We ordered Laghman (noodle soup, EUR6.90) and Saomian (a noodle dish with vegetables and meat, EUR7.90); according to the menu, they are served explicitly with handmade noodles and lamb. A half-hour wait ensues, but hey, hand-pulling noodles to order probably takes its time. At least we have a pot of authentic uigur tea (EUR3) to soothe our empty stomachs with. Unfortunately, said uyghur special tea turns out to be a pot of hot water with a bag of green tea from a local food discounter. When we later confront the waiter about this, he admits that they have run out of the authentic special tea. I'm sure glad that they managed to keep up the specialty price! When our plates finally arrive, they turn out to be canteen-style noodles with sweet peppers in a thick Oxo-style sauce. The dishes are identical, except that the Laghman noodles have been cut into small bits. And since it's supposed to be a soup, they serve it with a spoon. The noodles are clearly not handmade, and I'd be very surprised if the meat was really lamb it looked and tasted like beef to me. The food was awful and lay heavy in our stomachs for the rest of the evening. Bottom line: We had been had and will not come back.

Lagman with lamb and extra meat.
