With my record, I was worried about getting my application denied or worse. As an immigrant, that "worse" scenario can be life altering. I've mentioned I'm a procrastinator, well, it's worse when I'm anxious about something so I put it off even more. Jonathan urged and finally convinced me to go through with it and so I did. He reassured me throughout the entire process that everything would work out just fine and he was not wrong! Not only did he reassure me, he prepped me for my interview and although he wasn't able to go with me the day of my interview (court thing came up) he did send someone else who was just as reassuring and capable. I was finally in the interview room with the immigration agent and it went so smoothly it ended up being one of the most positive experiences of my life. Part of it was the preparation beforehand and another aspect was the immigration agent, who was very empathetic to my case. After a lifetime of having "immigration law" on my mind constantly, I am now an American Citizen. Overall, to anyone reading this wondering if you should proceed with Empire Law, I say YES. His profile photos and website project the image of a tough, assertive defense attorney. In my experience, however, that aggression was directed toward his own client. I felt intimidated and belittled by someone I had paid to represent me. The most troubling incident happened shortly before my court date. After a tense conversation, he threatened to stop pursuing the plea agreement that had been presented to me and tell the judge to require my personal appearance. I live thousands of miles away and hired the firm with the understanding that counsel would handle court appearances on my behalf. He knew the hardship traveling would create. Given the timing and his statements, I felt this threat was retaliatory rather than based on my interests as a client. This destroyed my confidence in his representation and left me feeling forced to hire another attorney at the last minute, at additional expense and stress. His response denying that I was even his client is especially troubling. I have attached screenshots of my payments to Liberty Criminal Defense and my retainer agreements so readers can review the documentation themselves. His denial deserves an explanation that directly addresses those records. Readers can draw their own conclusions, but this review reflects my firsthand experience. I have no reason to fabricate it, and dismissing it as fake does not address what happened. Clients deserve clear communication, accountability, and basic respect. I am sharing my experience to warn others before they entrust this firm with their defense. I cannot recommend Liberty Criminal Defense. Lmao! Look at how dishonest this firm is! I fid not realize how horribly I had been treated until I finally found a helpful law firm. Second chances started from the very beginning. I stressed I preferred to stay away from a "Case Mill" (somewhere where I'm a number and they have a huge amount of cases which they handle in bulk). I also stressed I wanted a firm in my area so I wouldn't have to travel for doctor visits or in case I had to go into the office for various reasons. I informed the person who did my intake I needed to be able to get in contact with either the attorney or their assistant for any additional issues. My first visit was in another county which I was assured it was a one time event and my attorney would be in Riverside. I was also given a cell phone number of someone I could contact any time. I NEVER could get ahold of anyone. When I finally received a response text, I was sent the WRONG information. My attorney ultimately transferred to San Diego. I also ultimately found out that NOTHING was done on my case in a YEAR! A year later my new attorney filed with the WC Board immediately. Something simple which should have been done immediately which was NEVER done. This firm has too many cases.
