His profile photos and website project the image of a tough, assertive defense attorney. In my experience, however, that aggression was directed toward his own client. I felt intimidated and belittled by someone I had paid to represent me. The most troubling incident happened shortly before my court date. After a tense conversation, he threatened to stop pursuing the plea agreement that had been presented to me and tell the judge to require my personal appearance. I live thousands of miles away and hired the firm with the understanding that counsel would handle court appearances on my behalf. He knew the hardship traveling would create. Given the timing and his statements, I felt this threat was retaliatory rather than based on my interests as a client. This destroyed my confidence in his representation and left me feeling forced to hire another attorney at the last minute, at additional expense and stress. His response denying that I was even his client is especially troubling.
