Everyone in the office is beautiful inside and out. I have never waited more than 2-3 minutes in the lobby before being called back to a room for my appointment, and once I'm in a room, I'm treated with so much kindness and comfort that I forget I'm even at the dentist. Everyone who works at Rhoades is incredibly well trained, gentle with their tools, and they explain everything that is happening thoroughly as it happens. In addition to the amazing ladies who work at Rhoades, holy cow they have top of the line equipment! From the X-rays to the cameras to make molds for crowns...(that's right-no more mushy mold making in your mouth!) they have the newest and best equipment. Bonus-they have every movie every made available for your viewing on the ceiling flat-screen. So if you're feeling like Napoleon Dynamite might be your jam while getting your new crown, this is your place!

I'm in the Army going to the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth for this year…read more They don't allow us to miss very much class time, so finding a "one stop shop" for my dental needs was extremely important. The dental office on post lost my trust after the dentist there and his assistant (who are super nice BTW) dropped instruments during my appointment to get a temporary crown. Not only that, but after 3 days the temporary crown fell out when I was eating a sandwich (not something that was even that hard)!! Additionally, when I called the Fort Leavenworth clinic about it, they said that having a temporary crown fall out after 3 days was normal! I just don't see that as being the case. All these shenanigans was after getting referred for a root-canal that should've been followed within 3-6 weeks with the temporary crown. Fort Leavenworth forced me into the above appointment 7-8 weeks after the root-canal and basically told me "tough" at their front desk and to "just be careful" with the tooth that just received the root-canal. Needless to say, that's when I started wondering if I could go somewhere else. The on post dental clinic is severely lacking in customer service at their front desk and a level of competence that I'm comfortable with. After calling TRICARE (insurance) for my procedures, they gave me a list that I whittled down to a couple places. I eventually chose Olathe Smiles Dentistry because they could do all of the procedures I needed AND do them all in one day with NO follow-up appointments (pending any unanticipated complications). The dental clinic (Ebony) on post very begrudgingly set up the referral for me. No one likes confrontation, but I am SO glad I put an end to my suffering at their hands. Olathe Smiles Dentistry was great from when I checked in (Ebony screwed up the insurance referral paperwork that Olathe Smiles front desk ladies fixed PROACTIVELY), to the assistants and the doctors. First, I saw Trish who works with the periodontist Dr. McKenzie. She got me x-rays and helped out during my root lengthening. "Root lengthening" really should be called something else because it's when they cut out gums from around your tooth and sometimes grind down bone. I was nervous going in. However, both Trish and Dr. McKenzie were hilarious and their conversations REALLY set me at ease and took my mind off of the procedure. Immediately following that appointment (same day) I moved from one room to another for the permanent crown to be put in. Dr. Rawalt and Benita (I think) were the ones helping with that. They were both great as well! I can't express how thankful I am to go to one place for fixing the shenanigans related to that one tooth. Even with a sore jaw right now, I am extremely relieved to have gotten the procedures done by a staff that was not only VERY customer service oriented, they showed empathy through distracting and hilarious conversation (anthropology, Star Wars, toddler hyjinx...), and they were competent as well as efficient. Thank you, Olathe Smiles team! You all are great. I don't like going to the dentist, but if I have to do it again, I will definitely come back!!! -Captain Stear (US Army)

But my most recent experience was so pleasantly memorable, I felt compelled to post a review. It was not just a routine cleaning, which have all been fine, but a replacement of old cavity fillings. First of all, I did not feel a THING when the novacaine injection was administered. I mean, seriously, I was sitting there wondering "did he inject the novacaine yet?" before I realized yes he had. And I'm kind of a baby about novacaine in the first place. Secondly, the whole procedure was done smoothly, with excellent teamwork between Dr. Alexander (I hope it's Dr. Alexander and that I'm getting his name right, he's great) and the technician (sorry, I don't remember her name but she's great too, very personable and professional). They had a good collaboration where she could anticipate what he needed next and when I needed to be suctioned, etc. It just went very smoothly. Felt no pain, and it was efficiently done. Thirdly, I needed no adjustment at all. Sometimes with these fillings, it can end up a little high, and your bite just isn't quite right. Nope, 24 hours later I don't even REMEMBER that I just had these fillings done. The bite was perfect on the first try. And you have what you need - tissues, cups, rinse, bing, bang boom, procedure done, you're on your way. Oh yeah, I forgot, you can even eat and drink RIGHT after the procedure is finished. And I did (sorry, I know I said I wouldn't when I was there but I did because I COULD) eat and drink shortly afterwards and had no problems at all. And the staff are great. They're nice to you when you arrive and good about scheduling and great about billing. They listen to you, pay attention, they just do a great job with customer service. I've left physicians practices solely based on the behavior of the office staff even if I like the physician. Not an issue with Olathe Famly Dentistry, they're great to work with. And they accept my dental insurance (MetLife Dental).

Dentists and hygienists were awesome. Drs Alexander and Bevan retired a few years ago and things have totally changed. This practice is all about the money now and definitely not the personalized service that it once was. They insisted I needed a new bridge and we're incredibly high pressure about how I was going to pay the out of pocket portion. I have found another dentist who I'm very happy with and by the way there is nothing wrong with my bridge three to four years later.

The hygienist was quite thorough and my teeth were sparkling by the time I left the place. I was a bit disappointed in how brief my actual visit with the dentist was--he's a nice guy, but I saw him for maybe two minutes, max. I'm no dental expert, but it would seem to me that as a new patient, you would spend a little more time with me going over my dental history and giving me a more thorough check-up on my first visit. By far, my biggest complaint, a very serious complaint, is that no one appeared to read my medical history. Example: the hygienist was prepping me for x-rays and not once did she ask me the standard questions you are supposed to ask before you take an x-ray (Are you pregnant?). Not only had I marked on the medical history sheet that there was a chance I COULD be pregnant (you never know!), but I had to TELL her. She even told me that she hadn't read it. Due to the medical history issue alone, I am giving this dentist office a low rating. Service is good, but they made some pretty big missteps.

The first time I called and it was around $150.00. Then calling back to confirm my appointment the fee increased to $241.00. I've have never been to the office but it looks high dollar on the advertising picture and indeed it is. If you don't mind paying just to chat with their "expert" for 10 minutes, then this may be the place for you. Maybe they just want wealthy clientele, so fee "extraction" is easier.

They do complex things, like implants and crowns, as well as the more common cleanings and fillings. The location is convenient at 69 and 159th Street. Give them a try - you won't be disappointed!
