So happy to discover this place! I've lived in or around this neighborhood for 35 years and had never gone into this store when a friend and neighbor offered an unsolicited recommendation based on some other work she needed to do. It kicked me in the butt enough to take in my (formerly my great-grandmother's) engagement ring to get it resized and cleaned. We figured out a great solution and the ring was returned to me sparkling like crazy and no longer spinning around on my finger, but still able to slip past my slightly chunkier knuckle. My friend and I stopped in here shortly before their regular closing time and really had a blast looking at all the jewelry, beads, findings and crystals. The shopkeeper was helping a mother and daughter trio who were there before us, and they took so long the store stayed open late for them, which means we got to browse longer too. Really fun and beautiful finds here. Prices seemed fair - you can shop with your crafty child, or you can find some high priced pieces. Street parking nearby. Overall easy to find and a delight to visit. Highly recommend it. Hard to find bead stores at all nowadays. This is a good one. read more

I'm so grateful to have found Karizma and it's owner's Momo, her little dog Gogo too. My first trip was for bracelet repairs. Momo offers a variety of services, and I had broken a clasp on a stone-bead bracelet and a watch whose clasp no one had been able to fix. In a matter of days' Momo turned it around just as I had to hop on a flight for a business trip. I'm an avid meditator and always on the lookout for mediation tools to enhance my practice. Momo offered me consultation then assembled not 1 but 3 custom Mala's (aka - Buddhist Prayer Beads) to use during my meditation. They are stunning; my meditation sessions are great. I later learned she also did personal Chinese Horoscope readings based on your Chinese Zodiac. I decided to give it a try and found it surprisingly accurate. Momo has been providing these for years and her interpretations are quite insightful. Finally, Karizma also offers Home Visits for Feng Shui Placements. I decided to give it a try and scheduled time for Momo to come to my home. I instantly felt better in my own space. There is such a thing as "Good Vibes" and Momo delivered them straight into my home. That was 2 years ago as of the writing of this recommendation and I've seen three promotions and have seen an increase in my income substantially. I continue to work with Momo to this day. While you could come in for the watch/jewelry repair, look around and leave, you'd be missing out some other cool offerings from this gem of a store. Momo is kind, dedicated and skilled at what she does. She has a passion for helping people in all she offers; I'd highly recommend a visit to her new shop on 24th Street. I was first introduced to Karizma about 20 years ago. I was drawn in to their store by the window display at their store on Church, close to Market. Then they moved down the street a bit, still on Church and again, had a wonderful window display. Now in their current location at 4107 24th Street, they continue to have a window display that dazzles. They have done a good job displaying all their wares in this new shop, much brighter, a wee bit smaller, but still draws me in. All these years later, they are still my go to shop for Crystals, trinkets and jewelry repair. Momo is so knowledgeable, generous and kind. Sometimes I just pop in to say Hi and give GoGo a snuggle or two. Her faithful 4 legged companion. So if you haven't met Momo, Tom and GoGo, make the journey over to their new shop. Yeesh. There's a little bit of hate for this place and I'm not sure why. I've been coming here since I was about 10 years old and I have always been treated with the utmost respect. When I was in grade school, I was really into making beaded jewelry. I was always able to fine unique materials here and an eclectic assortment of beads for my creations, all within walking distance from my house. Granted, I never made any big bucks off anything I made, but it was a fun hobby as a kid. A few years back, my mom gifted me an antique emerald and pearl ring. Two of the tiny pearls had been missing for years and she never had any luck finding replacements. I took the ring into many fine jewelers in San Francisco, only to be told that the ring could never be fixed. Upon recommendation, I took the ring into Karizma, my old stomping ground. The owner said he would have to special-order pearls that would fit the ring's size, but that it could be done. 3 days and $25 later, the ring was in pristine condition (see photo). I'm grateful they were able to fix a special heirloom when so many other businesses didn't take the time to research any options. I would highly recommend stopping into Karizma for any specialized jewelry issues, especially if it involves hard-to-fix precious/semi-precious stones. They did a fantastic job and also have a lovely selection of beads for jewelry making. read more

I recently had three small pieces of jewelry repaired. A broken bracelet that needed to be soldered in two places, a silver dog pin missing it's eye and a necklace that broke where the pendent attached (also needed soldering), The repairs came to $168 to my surprise as they were all simple fixes. When I said the price was exorbitant the woman in charge reduced it to $138. I'm sill in shock-wish I could add pictures of what was done for a price of high. I hate even giving these bastards 1 star. So bad, I should have reported them to the Better Biz Bureau. I needed to have one of the links taken out of my kinetic watch, which was a college graduation present, and I figured that this place would be able to accomplish something as mundane as removing a link. I was told by the Chinese lady (who looked like she owned the place) that I could pick up my watch in 2 days. When i showed up 2 days later the "watch guy" was not "in". I called a couple days later to see if "watch guy" was in-house and again, he was not. I was told to come back in a few days. On my third attempt to reclaim my watch I stopped into the store, already ticked off for so much time having passed, and I asked to see the "watch guy". The woman scrambled around behind the counter and pulled out a zip lock bag with my watch in it. I pulled it out only to discover that the safety clasp was missing. She insisted that I was mistaken--that there had been no safety clasp on the watch to begin with. I spent the next 20 minutes explaining to her that I had worn the same watch for 10 years, and that I should know whether it did originally have a safety clasp on it. She then basically called me a liar, to which i replied that she had better have the clasp in-hand when I returned in 2 days. I returned to the store and of course "watch guy" was still not there, but he gave her a message for me that the watch never had a SEIKO safety clasp to begin with. I decided to cut my losses at this point because I was getting nohwere with these idiots. I called her 3 more times, just out of spite, asking her if she had found my safety clasp yet. She decided to pull the "I don't speak English" routine. This was about a year ago and it still pisses me off. read more

In a pinch I needed to get 3x3 crimp tubes for a class - I opted to get them here, because I was running late. During the class half of the tubes broke in two while I was crimping them - not good. Of course when I went back to share my disappointment - they gave me additional tubes, but not without telling me that I was using them incorrectly - never mind that in the 5 years I've used crimp tubes I've never seen this happen. I agree with Kelly S. the store is odd - the bead selection is okay, but I found to way to expensive and they need to clean up their act, literally, very dirty store - but it's prime real estate so I'm sure they're holding on to the space FOREVER UPDATE: The product in this place is pretty shoddy, I used the replacement crimps and they still sucked. I recently had a need for a specific type, color and sized bead that I needed for one of my pieces of art. I had been to two bead stores already and was unable to find it. I walked by Karizma by chance and thought "maybe this place has it". I walked in and was surprized by the amount of beads the store contained. They certainly would have the bead I was looking for. I thought wrong! I described the type, color and size of the bead that I was looking for to the Chinese lady that was behind the counter. She said that she does have such a bead and we went searching. She showed me bead after bead that were totally not what I was looking for. I needed a black bead and she would showed me red, gray, white. After each attempt at telling her that that's not what I wanted I became extremely frustrated! I then specifically said "Do you have this bead or not? You're not listening to me"! She mummled something and I just said "Oh forget it" and stormed out. I have had only good experiences at this store! Every time I go in, I look at the fine estate jewelry to see what's new...and there is always something beautiful! The lady who owns the shop knows me, because I've been a return customer over the years, and so when I DO find something I like, she always gives me a good price (and I ALWAYS haggle!!!). The fine jewelry that I've bought here has always appraised at higher than what I paid and was always what it was supposed to be (ie, I've never been sold a sapphire that turned out to be glass, or gold that wasn't real gold). Most of all, the owner has always been friendly, courteous, reliable, and rings have been sized on-time. Besides fine jewelry (of which there usually isn't a huge collection), this store also sells costume jewelry, jewelry-making findings, and extraordinary geodes and crystals (in the back room of the shop). This store is NOT WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE, which is a shame...there is one big front step, and once you get in the store, it's rather cluttered, so there wouldn't be a lot of space in which to maneuver an assistive-device around. That said, the owner is very accommodating, so if you called in advance and asked her to bring you items outside of the front door (because you're looking for something in particular), I feel fairly certain she would do this for you. I would especially recommend it to anyone looking for a vintage/estate engagement or wedding ring priced under $2,000. You won't find giant cocktail rings set in platinum here, but a modest art deco diamond band? Yeah, you might find that here, and for a lot less money than it would cost at Shreve or any of the other fancier stores in the city. read more

Being that I believe in the powers of the universe, this is a great place to go if you want advice on what stone to get for a scorpio, pisces, aquarius, etc, even on chinese zodiac stuff! I really came in yesterday looking for a gift for my Piscean friend, and a tight budget. I told the guy she's a March Pisces, and he gave me a lot of different aquamarine options, from a GORGEOUS $145.00 bracelet to a simple, polished, under $15 aquamarine stone. He offered to string it on a beautiful leather string, and put it in a gift box at my request. I was in, out, in 10 minutes, and on-time for work! I can understand the anger and frustration of some customers...but damn. Calling folks bastards? thas hella extreme. Never walked out of here with a gift I've regretted. I actually bought my partner a promise ring from here, made from one of his zodiac stones. I've walked past this store thousands of times and finally had a reason to stop in. Boy, it was sure worth the wait. I've worn a jade buddha around my neck since 2003 and have had to replace the string necklace a few times now...none to my satisfaction (they always wear out too quickly or otherwise). I showed this to the owner (Momo?) and she was so sweet and helpful. She educated me on just what type of buddha it is and patiently went over the many different options I had available there as replacement to my worn string necklace. Not only was there ample options, but the way in which she fastened the buddha, and more importantly...tied it off, was just fantastic. Guānyīn is now perfectly centered near my heart at all times. And, all this for a whopping $1 (I made her take $5). On a personal note, I found Momo to be a warm, engaging person who projects good confidence in the spiritual arts (feng shui, etc). I love Karizma. I've been going there for decades. Ma Pei is fab. She's totally attuned to energy and lives to the beat of her own drum. Think Asian mystic meets SF hippie meets surfer shop on the islands meets modern day mom. She has some great vintage finds, excellent quality crystals, and some finds that aren't so easy to get a hold of. I can't agree that all of the prices are that low, but I also can't say that all prices are that firm--which is nice. I don't know how the owner manages theft control and don't blame her for not wanting someone to put their hands in their pockets off and on. That's just standard common sense etiquette when in certain types of stores. Really people. Just let your hands flow by your side and soak in the rays from all of the wonderful energy in that little healing retreat...instead of being so defensive about how you project in the world and then reinforce ageism. I've had the store set stones for me years ago...and I will admit, it was either huge hit or a slight miss. Some things still have strangers asking me questions about...and other's, I've passed on. Despite carrying pre-made jewelry, they aren't a watch store or high end jewelry fabricator store. They are really great for stringing, beading, making things on that front--which is what they sell. That said, Ma Pei is fun and can be great at helping to plan a design if you buy some gem stones or crystals (...as I compare her to some of the best-). So it's worth asking her for help for that part. For execution, I'd hit Union Street. This place is among the old school San Franciscans...before eclectic classy, artsy Union Street went all frat house meets sorority sister on us and Chinatown went commercial. Let's try to keep some of the character this city was once famous for, no? If you want watch repair and are on a tight schedule that requires ordinary business culture, maybe go to a regular watch store instead of an esoteric crystal and bead shop that you are going to complain about? I absolutely love Karizma! Tom and Momo are very helpful, knowledgeable, and insightful. They also have probably some of the most amazing and unique pieces in the bay area for crystals and crystal jewelry. The selection here is vast and high quality. Every time I come into the store, I find something new and beautiful; my bank account may not be too happy about this but currency flows so you have to spend some to get it back anyway... the energy here is amazing. After going to the other place down the street and being pretty much shocked by how their raw crystals cost more than both in LA and Boise, ID I asked the lady working there if there were any more crystal shops.. she told me to check out this place, but said they don't have as much selection... I mean....WHAT?! They have way more things. And this place has some of the more rare things that I've been looking for all over...AND the prices are good (on those certain things at least) The bead selection is awesome! This store, I've walked by it millions of times and I never went in because, well, it looked like it was about incense, I don't know. I just never did. But one day, my beautiful necklace my boyfriend gave me for Valentine's, was incomplete! It was missing a silver stone. Having is sent back to Australia for repair wasn't really an option. It could get lost, etc, etc. I went to Flax, considered the "Genital Beads" store, and then was recommended this store by the staff at Flax. I came in here and it was like walking into a gold mine. It's shiny everywhere you look. Everywhere you find stones and sparking stuff. I asked for a suggestion stone and turns out the guy was able to fix my necklace so nicely, I can't even tell where the stone fell off. So, I recommend this store to anyone who wants to make necklaces, fix their wedding rings with missing stones and those graduation rings, if you have tons of earrings with missing hooks, here's the place to get those silver hooks for really cheap.
